Totally useless. It actually made my mildly blocked ear worse. Avoid!

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor sizing and quality, 16 Mar. 2016

Highly disappointed that this t-shirt was so small. It was in no way a large. Also the material is very poor quality and unlikely to survive washing.

2.0 out of 5 stars A waste of money with poor quality manufacture, 12 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A waste of money. I bought this premium-priced water bottle as a means to ensure I was drinking enough water every day. I must admit I was not 100% about the resilience of the construction.

However, after a short period of use, the bottle now leaks everywhere. On top of this I can't return it as faulty.

4.0 out of 5 stars A generally good read, 24 Jan. 2015

This review is from: Anno Dracula (Kindle Edition)
This a good, atmospheric book which adds a twist to both alternative history and free use of a horror classic. There are some lovely twists on vampire lore which provides a lot of comment on victorian attitudes.

There are some very well-written characters and the building menace to ward the conclusion is very well managed. My only reservation was the finale. It makes for confused reading, especially as the majority of the book is so clear. I found myself having to read several sequences over.

But don't less this put you off as it is a cracking read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Flawed movie which doesn't show the scene in a good light, 24 Jan. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I had high hopes for this film. It had a great deal of promotion prior to release which built expectation that it could very well be the definitive Northern Soul movie.

All the ingredients are there. The story of a young lad who finds inspiration from the music and his move into becoming a DJ. Great so far. The brief recreation of the Wigan Casio is very atmospheric - particularly when playing the soundtrack through a home cinema system. The music choices are good both for fans and for newbies.

However, there is so much emphasis on the drug-related plot line. I've seen others comment on this. I realise that drugs were part of the scene, but this element turned the movie into a weird crime drama at points. This overshadowed the joy of the wonderful music which should have been the focus of the film. To me this is unforgivable. There was also not enough focus on the dancers and the whole atmosphere which made places like the Wigan Casino legendary. I'm also no prude, but the level of swearing was ridiculous as to be almost laughable.

The final sequence is brilliant and touching, especially for a fan of Northern Soul like me. Ironically this well-constructed sequence gave me a glimpse of how much better the film could have been.

If I had to use a movie to illustrate how great the Northern Soul music and scene is/was, this wouldn't be it.

The Essential Collection
The Essential Collection
Price: £3.99

4.0 out of 5 stars A good starting point with some glaring omissions, 24 Jan. 2015
A good collection covering several stages in Edwin's career.

The absence of "Stop Her on Sight (SOS)" and "25 Miles" seems a little odd as I would regard these as essential! However, the inclusion of some lesser-known tracks goes some way towards making up for this. The Northern Soul material are classics in their own right, but may not have as wide an audience as the bigger hits.

Having said that, any material from Edwin is going to be very well performed. This is a good starting point, but by no means a definitive collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars Reasonable release - dreadful packaging, 8 Sept. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The content of these discs are what you would expect. The journey from the Season 7 finale to the Christmas Special makes a logical choice as well as including the Night of the Doctor mini episode. I do feel a little peeved to have The Name of the Doctor or yet another release. I've been collecting each season since the reboot and this is the only occasion I've had to double up on an episode.

The extras are relevant, if a little sparse. The lack of commentary anywhere is a real letdown.

The biggest downside is the appalling packaging. 2Entertain continue to cut corners as each season has progressively worse packaging. For a 'collector's edition" the packaging lets the whole release down. It's the kind of box you get on a cheap toy from Asda, not a celebratory release.

On the whole, while I'm happy to have the content in my collection, it certainly doesn't feel all that special.

4.0 out of 5 stars Poor first impression, but great customer service., 13 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was eager to get a reasonably-priced speaker to use with my iPhone. This looked like a good option.

I wasn't expecting too much from the sound quality, but I did expect the closing mechanism to work beyond the first use.

After posting my problem on an earlier version of this review, James at Gadget Hunter contacted me and told me how to fix the problem. The halves of the casing can move slightly and prevent the locking mechanism from engaging. This is easily remedied by slightly rotating the casing.

While this is a simple fix, it is unfortunate there is this weakness in the design and hope it doesn't prove to be a longer-term issue.

However, I have decided to hold on to the speaker and see how it fares with use as the early impressions of sound quality are good for the price.

Top marks to Gadget Hunter for the customer service!
