Kylie Minogue does it again with this catchy but laid-back summer tune. Surprisingly it wasn't included on the Kiss Me Once album but maybe that was in order to boost sales of this track individually since all proceeds go to a breast cancer charity.
Light and shimmery, Crystallize glides along effortlessly and sounds like something the Scissor Sisters would write for their mate Kylie. Highly recommended and all for a good cause to boot!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy Bucks Fizz Singer Still Sparkles With Her Solo Single!, 11 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: True Love (MP3 Download)
Jay Aston was known for her sexy outfits and dramatic powerhouse vocals in the hugely successful British pop band Bucks Fizz particularly on their hit single "When We Were Young" and has always been popular with the group's fans. Jay is now relaunching her solo career with a new single, "True Love" and an album to follow (her third solo album since leaving Bucks Fizz in the 80's).

"True Love" is a jaunty little number although not the big Kylie-esque pop/dance anthem I was expecting; the lyrics are fun and down-to-earth and Jay surprises once again with a quirky vocal style very different to what fans are used to. Catchy and old-school but with a nod to contemporary production techniques, this should appeal to fans of the original Bucks Fizz as well as a newer, younger audience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Britain's Best Pop Group Still Sparkles..., 1 July 2013
Bucks Fizz won the Eurovision Song Contest for the UK way back in 1981 with "Making Your Mind Up" and became the most successful Eurovision winners since ABBA, spawning numerous number ones, Top 40 hits and perfect pop albums. The original line-up of Cheryl Baker, Mike Nolan and Jay Aston are still together, still recording albums and still touring and this brilliant documentary contains insightful interviews as well as a record of their sell-out Splash Tour in 2009. A must for fans of the band and indeed for anyone who treasures the memories of epic 80's pop! Highly recommended.

This incredible collection of hits, remixes, rare tracks and hidden gems from Britain's best ever pop group is fantastic value for money! If you only remember their Eurovision winner "Making Your Mind Up" (here in a unique acapella version) or their three top-selling UK number ones then I challenge you to buy this album and discover some of the best pure pop songs and boy-girl harmonies since ABBA.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not The Real Fizz!, 10 April 2013
If you're a Bucks Fizz fan or a fan of 80's pop then whatever you do do NOT buy this dreadful travesty of an album. This is NOT Bucks Fizz but a sad little cabaret band that toured years ago using the Bucks Fizz name and which happened to feature original band member Mike Nolan for a while.

These are NOT the original recordings but horrible, cheap cover versions with extremely poor production values. There are plenty of genuine compilation albums out there by the real Bucks Fizz as well as an excellent new album called "Fame & Fortune" by all the original remaining band members (Mike Nolan, Cheryl Baker and Jay Aston) as well as a cool solo album by Mike so please don't waste your money on this trash.

Excellent adaptation of the pilot episode of 70's sci-fi classic TV show "Space:1999". Awesome artwork and the writers extend the premise further and look at how the people of Earth were affected by the moon leaving Earth's orbit.

3.0 out of 5 stars LEGION - A Battle Between Good & Evil, 28 Nov 2010
This review is from: Legion [DVD] [2010] (DVD)
"Legion" (2010) is an action/horror movie which only received a limited theatrical release in the Uk. I have to say that the trailers were very good and prompted me to seek this one out on dvd but unfortunately it doesn't quite live up to the hype.
Most of the action takes place in a quiet roadside diner in the middle of the desert, where our motley crew of customers find themselves being attacked by strangers seemingly possessed by demons. It transpires that these demons are actually angels sent by God to destroy mankind as a punishment for our sins. Yep, the apocalypse is upon us once again. Where's Buffy when we need her, eh? Luckily for us, the Archangel Michael has decided to rebel against God and save mankind.
Initially, this seems like a more unique take on the old horror cliches and it does at least attempt to offer something a little different from the norm. However, the plot is so convoluted and full of holes that in the end none of it really makes any sense. If the pregnant woman is carrying the next saviour of mankind, then does that make him the Son of God? And if so, why would God want to try and destroy his own son and thus the whole of mankind anyway? At the end of the day, if you can switch your brain off for 90 minutes, "Legion" is fairly entertaining and has a few fun moments amongst all the confusion and dreary dialogue.

All Aliens Like Burgers
All Aliens Like Burgers
by Ruth Wheeler
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fun SF Adventure!, 31 May 2010
"All Aliens Like Burgers" is a brand new science-fiction novel by author and sci-fi fan Ruth Wheeler. Published by Hirst Publishing, this is a novel aimed more at the teenage end of the market but with enough appeal to lure in some of the older crowd too. It follows the story of teenager Tom Bowler and his somewhat bizarre adventures after he applies for a job with a Fast Food company. It's not giving too much away by revealing that Tom gets the job, only to find that he's working in a burger bar - on another planet! As the story unfolds, we get to learn more about the world Tom now inhabits, his new friends and the odd enemy or two!
"All Aliens Like Burgers" is an entertaining read and it's good to know that there are still writers out there who don't feel the need to resort to bad language, sex and violence in order to win over today's teens. Personally, I felt that the main characters were perhaps a little too bland and a little more character conflict wouldn't have gone amiss. However, there are nice touches of humour and Wheeler's invention of a gross sport known as Spotoon will definately appeal strongly to young readers in particular!
The more seasoned science fiction fan may detect elements of the classic "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" series of novels in the depiction of some of the alien races and of course the ever-present humour. "All Aliens Like Burgers" is the first of a trilogy and teases with one or two potential new plot threads left hanging. Like the fast food industry it satirizes, Wheeler's novel provides instant gratification and ultimately leaves you wanting more.
I would happily recommend this as the perfect gift for youngsters who enjoy science-fiction, Dr Who fans and all those who enjoy a good, imaginative tale!

Cinema Sewer Volume 2: The Adults Only Guide to History's Sickest and Sexiest Movies!

4.0 out of 5 stars Only For The Open-Minded!, 24 Aug 2009
The two "Cinema Sewer" books are definately a required taste but are a good read for the open-minded cult movie fan.

Compiled (and updated) from back-issues of Rob Bougie's self-published underground cinema fanzine, "Cinema Sewer Volume Two" is another trawl thru the depths of trash, porn, exploitation and horror.

Uniquely, this book of articles and reviews uses hand-written type, comics and illustrations to put it's point across. This gives the book an even sleazier, underground feel but is really not for prudes!

This second volume includes "The Godmonster of Indian Flats", "Forced Entry", TV sitcom "Diff'rent Strokes"(!), "Foxy Brown" and 1970's Spanish zombie flicks amongst the XXX-rated hardcore porn and sleaze.

If you have an open mind and an interest in subversive cinema and comix, then this is the purchase for you!
