1.0 out of 5 stars This Film Only Plays in the German Language., 17 July 2014

MAIN POINT: This film does NOT play in English.
Having been after this film for some time, I found it on Amazon.
I read the reviews which stated that although the film was dubbed in the German language you could opt for the English soundtrack.
Unfortunately, although the `menu` allows you to click on to an English version, the film still plays in the dubbed German language.
Indeed although the cover advertises it in Dutch as well, German is the only language that it plays.
So, if you want to hear this film in English DO NOT BUY THIS VERSION, you will only be disappointed.
The seller sent the film very promptly, and could not be faulted on their delivery service, but as it does not play in English it is of no use to me, and has gone into the bin.
Sadly a waste of money

First discovered this on the BBC afternoon shows.
The series is such an improvement over the Alec Guinness film, or the later Kenneth More series.
Mark Brown plays the role to perfection, and it is one of those rare series that almost any audience can watch without the obligatory swearing, sexual coupling, or, what I would describe as increasing `torture porn` with someone generally tied to a chair.
Great acting, great entertainment.
Currently waiting the issue of series 2. I paid money for this series, it does not get more serious than that.
Highly recommended.

Those of you with some age will remember the feature film `Callan, which was a spin-off from the popular television series.
One of the main features of the film was a climactic war-game between Callan and Schneider the arms dealer villain of the piece..
During the war-game Schneider played what he described, as a battle track, which was an audio montage of music, musketry, orders, and weapons to accompany the war-game.
As far as I am aware, no-one has every commercially produced such a `Horse and Musket` type track.
However, for those who war-game World War Two, or more modern conflicts, this CD is the only one that I know of, that produces not only single instances of weapons, but also montage tracks similar to those described above, albeit with reference to more modern conflicts. So, in its sphere this CD is apparently unique, and well worth the money.
In addition I contacted the Company hoping to expand their range of products, and received a prompt and courteous reply
fully discussing my suggestions, a rare event with many companies these days.
So, there you have it, a unique product, from a Company with good customer relations. I recommend it, and them.

Great item. Two batteries ensure that you can continuously cut, the machine is quite light, and surprisingly quiet.
Furthermore the no cable operation makes it infinitely easier to handle, and I speak as one who has cut through my cable more than once.

5.0 out of 5 stars A volume that puts the fun back in war-gaming., 9 Oct 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have been a wargamer since 1967, when I discovered a copy of Donald Featherstone`s book `Wargames` in my local library and found what to do with my Airfix soldiers, and models.
Since then I have seen almost every development in war-gaming, where games have often fluctuated between simplistic knock`em downs, to complex mathematical equations where every game move seem to involve hours of reference to endless charts designed to simulate `real` command. The experience that I had seemed to suggest the measure of fun reduced directly in ratio to the increase in the complexity of the rules.
Amongst many other things, I have seen volumes of print over `unit frontages`, when the most casual observer of military history will appreciate the fluctuations of military strengths. I remember reading how one regiment in the Crimea could parade 30 fit men for duty, how do you account for that?
I have come across Neil Thomas` previous volumes, and have been impresssed on how his rules managed to cover a tremendous amount of complexities, but within a simple, and enjoyable rule system.
Additionally, I was impressed with his `Army Lists` which must be a boon to any young war-gamer looking at the number of products available and wondering how he, or she, should organise their forces.
When I found Mr. Thomas` latest book on nineteenth century Europe, I could not get my hands on it soon enough.
I was not to be disappointed. Initial reading suggests that the rules are quite simple, and in using them, they are. However, further reading of the volume shows how deeply Mr. Thomas has considered his subject and just how successful he has been in creating a tremendous set of rules, scenarios, and suggestions, many of which are additionally suitable for the solo-wargamer.
I believe that Mr Thomas carries on the traditions of war-gaming started by Don Featherstone, and carried on by the likes of Charles Grant, and Charlie Wesencraft.
I heartily recommend this book to all, and can only hope that as Mr. Thomas has covered Ancient, Napoleonic, World War Two, and Nineteenth Century war-gaming, his next volume may be about Colonial war-gaming.
Buy it, you won`t regret it.

This thatched cottage, now sold by Dapol, is the old Airfix model.
Initially, It adorned many miniature railway layouts, and latterly became a staple scenic feature of many a wargame battlefield.
Over the years, many other similar items have appeared, which with the benefits of new moldings, arguably surpass the detail on this veteran. However, the newer models are often considerably more expensive.
There can be a little warping on some of the models parts, but with a little patience, and a judicial use of a superglue, along with a polystyrene cement, and an elastic band to hold all together whilst it dries, it is easily overcome.
I was looking to obtain some models that would represent the villages around Leipzig during the Napoleonic Wars, and after looking at a good few illustrations, and a very impressive German Museum diorama, this Dapol product filled the bill perfectly.
The low cost meant that I could buy around 3 models for the price of one of its rivals, and once made, the item is very durable, and will easily stand a great amount of storage and handling. My 3 newcomers joined a very old veteran that was originally made in the 1960s and is still going strong, however, like all properties it has been re-decorated many times.
I was pleased to find the `Thatched Cottage` still available, and it is good value for money, a good terrain piece, and provides a pleasant nostalgic experience in making and painting it.
A good old-timer that still `does what it says on the tin`. Thank you Dapol for ensuring it is still available.

I owned a VHS copy of this film, and have been after a DVD Region 2, (or All Regions), for years, but for some reason it seems not to have been generally released.
Therefore I was glad to get my hands on this `All Region` import.
There are Dutch subtitles, but they can be deleted at the opening of the film, and then you can just sit back and enjoy a classic Hollywood spectacular epic that has real extras not just CGI effects.
This film has it all, politics, intrigue, imperialism, and good old fashioned `blood and thunder` action with a little romance thrown in.
The story tells the of the siege of the Intenational Legations, (embassies), by a nationalistic Chinese movement known as the `Boxers`.
The Boxers are at times aided, or frustrated by the Chinese Dowager Empress who sits like a spider in a web. It is based on the real-life siege that occurred in 1900.
Will the various nationals survive the siege, outnumbered, low on supplies, and distrustful of one another, or succumb to the Boxers before relief can arrive?
See the film and find out for yourself
It has a host of World famous stars, when the term could be correctly used.
If you like `Khartoum`, `Waterloo`, `Zulu`, and `Zulu Dawn`, then this is a film for you.
Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Sci-Fi Box Set, 10 Feb 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is the box set for anyone seeking entertaining escapism.
It is the ideal alternative to the endless diet of repetitive soap operas, endless reality TV, and Z list celebrity shows.
With one purchase you can embark upon seven journies through space and imagination.
Share the suspense and menace from the `Creature from the Black Lagoon`.
Sympathise with the plight of `The Incredible Shrinking Man`.
Take an interstellar trip from the Laboratory to another World with `This Island Earth`.
Feel the isolation, and threat from `The Thing from Another World`.
Experience the paranoia, and fear in `The Invasion of the Body Snatchers`.
Reflect upon the attitudes in `It Came from Outer Space`, and for those with aracnophobia, shrink from the menacing `Tarantula`.
This is Hollywood Sci-Fi at its best, from an age when the `A` Bomb was new, and the future World unknown.
Highly recommended.
