4.0 out of 5 stars An alright film, 20 May 2012

This is considered one of the classics in the Godzilla series, mainly for the reason that it's the first appearance of King Ghidorah.
Film: The acting is typical of a typical Showa Godzilla film; slightly wooden, but passable. The special effects are rather good, especially on Ghidorah. However, the fight between Godzilla and Rodan looks extremely tame and streched out (ie. playing volley ball with a boulder, Rodan flying into Godzilla's face and knocking him over, with Godzilla getting up and jumping about like a panzy, and scenes where Rodan pecks at Godzilla's face and the camera jerks about, causing motion sickness), and they replaced Godzilla's blue atomic breath with steam.
The plot is basic, but serves its purpose. The music is epic, as pretty much all Akira Ifukube scores are. The ending fight with Ghidorah ciukld have been a bit more epic, but it was probably restrained due to budgeting reasons. The side plot of hitmen trying to kill the proncess whom the Venusan/ Martian is inhabiting adds something for the humans to do rather than run around panicking or send in futile attempts at defence via tanks and Mazers.

DVD: Slightly muffled sound(probably my hearing). Good quality presentation considering how old it is. The special features aren't much, just a documentary on Eji Tsuberaia (mis- spelt), which is short but informative, and a trailer.

Overall: Rather good, but for nostalgic reasons. If you're a G- Fan, this is a must- buy!

4.0 out of 5 stars My personal favourite, 20 May 2012

In my opinion, this the greatest example of an archeatypical (spelt wrong probably) zombie film. It has great gore and special effetcs, a good soundtrack, good character chemistry, an isolated location to which the characters must stay, and a mix of charcater study and social interpritation/ commentry. The film is a bit long, and does occaisally get a bit dull and over- explanitory in places, but that really doesn't interfere (mis- spelt) with any of the plot. Key scenes are where the man in an apartment building gets his head blown up, and zombie children get shot (both of which are absent from the even longer director's cut), and the assault at the end from the bikers. Too bad this edition didn't have all the deleted scenes or alterante endings (i.e. the suicide ending), which would have made this DVD even better.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Classic, 20 May 2012

What can I say that hasn't been said already? The acting is great (well not great, but beleivable, apart from the main woman), the cinematography is great, the atmosphere is great, the music is great. It's a great film. No need to go over the story as everybody knows (if you don't look it up). My only problem is that the DVD has virtually no special features on it, and no subtitles (I think; it's been a while since I've watched it), which I always find annoying. Buy it.

2.0 out of 5 stars The advert was mis- leading..., 4 Jan 2012

I gathered from the trailer I saw for this (on Vampire Hunter D, I think) that this anime was about a boy who had control over certain supernatural forces, and used them to complete a certain vendetta, along the process vaquishing other monsters. However, what this film appears to be is a long and tedious exploration of Hindu/ Buddist beliefs with far too much exposition. Even though the animation is alright and there is a fair share of blood shed, the deaths seem to be needlesly graphic. The plot is confusing, with it being something to do with the boy being a god, and at the end ends up controlling the universe or something, whilst theres a massive evil cloud in space shaped like a horse's head that wants to destroy the world.

3.0 out of 5 stars Funny live, but awkward whilst listening to it, 4 Jan 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
For starters, the musical is the funniest live performance i've ever seen. Out of 1 performance. The songs reflect society in a comedic way to which most people can relate to. The humour is mostly on time, and the music is usually humourus (mis- spelt), in tune (bar a few). However, the CD feels awkward when listening to it (especially "You can be as loud as the hell you want when you're making love"), especially around other people. Also, it's annoying that one of the best songs ("It sucks to be me") is joined onto another mediocre song ("What can you do with a BA in English?"), which you can't skip through, and have to tediously fast- foward through. The sound to it however is crisp and clear, which is good.

All reviews are down to personal opinion, and this is mine.

This is basically like one of those Companion Chronicles Big Finish cds, where a person reads the story, with the occasional extra voice or sound effect. Not very exciting, but good for fans or Whovians. The plot is alright, the sound effects are quite good for the time (except when they changed the Tardis noise), and the action is sorta' believable. Worth a try if you're into this kind of thing.

This review is from: The Ring Virus [1999] [DVD] (DVD)
This sticks more closely to the book than the American version, but doesn't have the charm or horror aspect of the American version. It's good if you want to add it to a collection, but not for general viewing.; It gets very slow in points, and isn't actually scary. That's why it's so cheap.

First off, bad things. The version of Night of the Living Dead included is the 3oth anniversary edition travesty, in which they take out classic and atmospheric scenes and replace them with awful music and crap acting. The special features in the 4th disk are also very bad, as they are 2 low budget fan made documentaries of awful quality. On the bright side, it includes the extended version of Dawn of the Dead (which is the best,, even though it cuts out the exploding head and machine gunned children parts), and Day of the Dead- good film, few special features. Buy this if yoy want cheap Romera zombies in a box, but buy another un- spoiled copy of NOTLD. I recommend Box of the Dead.

3.0 out of 5 stars Who did Godzila get revenge on?, 12 Jan 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
By all accounts, this is a pretty bad film. It was geered more to kids, so adults would have a hard time sitting through. The plot is deliciously simple; a boy dreams he's on Monster Island, and sees a clip show of Godzilla beating up old enemies. Some scenes are just plain weird (like where the kid starts humping a car) and have nothing to do with anything. Apparently, it shows a good moral value; to stand up to bullies, thwart bank robberies, hump cars and beat up giant monsters. It is the worst Godzilla film ever made (yes, even worse than the American travosty), but I just bnought to add to the rest of my Collection. This was made in 1969, so Toho decided to ditch Akira Ifukube, and replace his deep atmospheric music with a weird sort of techno- electro- hippie soundtrack. Yes for children, no for serious adults.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ray Harryhausen at his not quite best but still terribly good, 12 Jan 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The film is Ray Harryhausen's first film in which he did all the creature effects by himself. It his a very good film, but can lag behind in some parts. It should keep most people entertained, although younger audiences would be bored due to the lack of grand special effects, and black and white footage.
