Leeds United: My Leeds United - Peter Ridsdale [DVD]
Leeds United: My Leeds United - Peter Ridsdale [DVD]
Dvd ~ Leeds United Fc

1.0 out of 5 stars one star only because zero isn't available, 16 Sept. 2013
Ridsdale still can't believe the criticism he received following his ignoble reign of "living the dream" - it's all our (Leeds fan's fault, as we didn't stop him when he continued to sign the cheques! I understand the gallows humour that's encouraged Chelsea fans and others to make fun at "Publicity Pete" and his narcissus like persona. Chelsea fans should recall the state that Bates left their club in (before moving on to leeds to create similar havoc) and how they were saved by RA.
Don't forget that Ridsdale also went on to Barnsley and Cardiff, who also had similar financial "challenges" during his time.

5.0 out of 5 stars so sweet!, 10 Sept. 2013

Entirely different to the mainstream of his work so widely available elsewhere, this set of songs - entirely correctly called suites - was made much later in his career and provided a new sound. I hightly recommend these to anyone intrested in a mellow big band sound.

2.0 out of 5 stars soundscapes, 10 Sept. 2013

unlike previous material I have heard by Ribot outside of mainstream albums, this is much more about soundscapes. unfortunately these come across as aborted efforts from his several film collaborations: not good enough to be included elsewhere. I recommend buyers stick to some of the supberb albums he's made elsewhere, with Diana Krall & Joe Henry to name but two, or with his cuban ensemble.

2.0 out of 5 stars Old socks stink, 10 Sept. 2013
This review is from: Old Sock (Audio CD)
I can't help but agree with many of the other comments: this Old sock stinks. Although it attempts to follow similar lines to his previous albums: familiar tunes accompanied by newer Bramhall ii or JJ Cale material, the songs pale into insignificance to those predecessor efforts. There's nothing wrong with the recording or playing, just poor songs!

5.0 out of 5 stars their best album, 12 Jan. 2013
This review is from: Grab It For A Second (Audio CD)
I was fortunate enough to see the band at Ipswich when they did there first tour of the UK (tour? two dates!) in a couple of decades a few years ago - absolutely brilliant. Their albums vary hugely in both quality and style - although always demonstrably GE thanks to Barry Hay's distinctive voice.
This album is probably my personal favourite (along with To The Hilt), with classics Roxanne (which they did live when I saw them) and Cell 29

5.0 out of 5 stars the best album from Lady Day, 5 Nov. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A fan of several years, I'd always appreciated the songs, that voice!! and the overall impact. I just accepted that the slightly rough sound was because of the age of the original source material. On listening to other contempary artists, and the many that have followed Billie,I've always though how lucky many were to have a superior sound (Ella Fitzgerald & Sarah Vaughan invariably do, for example). Then I did some research and purchased this. Brilliant sound, probably partially because it is from her later work, so her voice has matured (& won't suit everyone's tastes),but what a wonderful piece of work. Barney Kessel's guitar is particularly noteworthy. Please buy & encourage others to do likewise. Lady Day sounding like she's singing today.

5.0 out of 5 stars so cool, 5 Nov. 2011

I'd seen other reviews before purchasing this (I think I had to get from Amazon USA as not available through UK). The reviews were pretty mixed & I can understand the negative comments: Boyd's vocals won't suit everyone, I just disagree. The album certainly isn't heavily flavoured with violin as one might expect either. It's all about the songs. I have to say that it improves on extended listening with several highlights: True Reflections (Boyd's song, & yes, Dave Matthews does sing here),What a time for love (superlative guitar from Doyle Bramhall II! - fab feedback a la Smokestack/Welcome),the Neil Young cover Cinnamon Girl & the first track: It's Alright. The album is more than Alright. Highly recommended.

I heard a track off this album on Whispering Bob's late night Saturday programme -last year?- and was hooked by the song itself, rhythms, harmonies and, most of all, the excellent guitar. On purchasing I found the album well recorded, with three of the band singing on songs, all originals, and the guitar throughout on a par with the song I'd originally heard.
Think Clapton: Bonnie & Delaney era, plenty of Slide Guitar. Very nice. I'd thought they might be from the Southern States - how wrong one can be, they're Welsh. I'll look out for live dates.
Give it a try, a legal substance that has Goofer dust!

1.0 out of 5 stars disappointing, 5 Nov. 2011

unlike each of her excellent original albums, this complilation fails miserably to attract & entertain, unless you're into something you could find in the Dance section. The first few tracks are ok - although available on other albums in versions at least as good. The rest of the two discs are made up of Dance versions of either new or re-mixed versions of songs - some new to fans, others also available elsewhere. Torrini is a superlative talent, wonderful live or on her other albums. Miss this one though, very disappointing, now where's that charity bag...
