5.0 out of 5 stars It's Bond, and it's great!, 14 Jun. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've just finished this book, and I hugely enjoyed it.
I was gripped from start to finish.
I think Deaver has got the tone of Bond just right, and the updating to the modern world is well judged.
In its own right, this is a good thriller in my opinion. The added extra, that it's James Bond, just makes it even better as far as I'm concerned.
I'm hoping for more Bond novels from this author!

1.0 out of 5 stars Yet another tuner failed, 26 April 2011
My Sony lasted 2 years before the tuner failed. I fell lucky that it lasted this long, but given the number of reviews that mention this issue, I would say that this is a serious design fault.
I have always thought that Sony had good tuners, albeit very expensive, but not any more.
I too will be avoiding Sony products from now on.

1.0 out of 5 stars Garbled and confusing product information, 16 Mar. 2011
Not a review of the product as such, but rather a review of Amazon's contradictory and confusing description:

Amazon's Description mentions "Media: DVD-ROM" whereas the Manufacturer's description states "no disc ship with this product"

The Manufacturer's description states that this is a licence only upgrade for Windows 7 starter edition, but this is contradicted by Amazon's undated "recent" amendment which states that this is a full version of Windows 7 that CAN be used to upgrade from Vista or for "new Windows users".

I can guess from user reviews which of these options this product actually is, but really Amazon needs to clarify its own confusing and potentially misleading description rather than (seemingly) auto-pasting product information from elsewhere and then adding an amendment that contradicts the earlier description and then relying on customers buying in error and then having to post clarification themselves!

And what does "recent" mean when attached to a comment without a specified posting date? Last week? Last year?

4.0 out of 5 stars It's Bond and it's fun!, 15 Jan. 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I'm really enjoying this game.
The whole feel is very Bond-like. Stirring music and good set pieces.

The cover system works well, and the controls are straightforward.

Occasionally it's frustrating to just watch a cut-scene rather than play the action yourself and some may find it too easy. The driving sections are a bit weak if using a keyboard to control the car. A first person view for Bond whould have added to the immersion.

However, if you like Bond and fairly easy 3rd person shooters then you'll like this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Atmospheric but flawed, 10 Jan. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: SoulBoy [DVD] (DVD)
Overall, this is a very atmospheric film and in my opinion captures the time and the Northern Soul scene very well.
Hoever, the storyline is a little weak and disjointed, making the film episodic rather than a smooth narrative flow.

The performances by most of the leads are good, and the actors have a good go at the Stoke accent but understandably slip quite a bit towards Manchester/Liverpool (to be fair, I'm from Stoke and I'm often taken for a Scouser by southerners!).

On a technical side, the 5.1 soundtrack promised on the DVD was appalling (ie: not properly coded 5.1). The stereo version was much better, especially with a bit of ProLogic II upmixing.

A flawed film, yes, but still the best (only) "Northern Soul" film out there.

With a bigger budget, this could have been absolutely brilliant.

Mad Men - Complete Season 2 [Blu-ray]

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Drama - Bad Blu-Ray Discs, 7 April 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a review of the Blu-Ray discs, rather than the content (I love Mad Men!).

The first season Blu-Ray disc menus were well laid out, simple to use and the discs worked flawlessly. The discs even indicated which episoded you'd already watched. The disc worked flawessly.

With Season 2, the menus aren't as good or as easy to use. The discs take twice as long to load than season 1 (or indeed any other blu-ray disc I own). On a few occasions, the discs have failed to load at all, requiring a complete reboot of the Blu-Ray player. Every other blu-ray I've ever used has no such problems.

I have Season 3 (blu-ray) on order, and am hoping not to have these issues again.

In summary, a fantastic series, but let down by technical issues with the blu-ray discs.

1.0 out of 5 stars This version awful on wide screen tv, 26 Dec. 2008
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The film is great - however, the DVD format, at least the one I recevied, is awful - the film appears to be in a 4:3 format. The quality of the picture is terrible, and on a widescreen tv the picture sits in a tiny box in the centre of the screen. If this DVD hadn't come from Amazon, I would suspect that it's a pirated rip off. Disappointing.

And btw - I have tried every setting available on both my tv and DVD player to get the film to at least fit the screen horizontally!

EDIT: 3rd June 2013: I replaced the DVD version with the Blu-Ray version, which works fine and looks pretty good too. Not as sharp as some other Blu-Ray remasters (eg: Zulu), but nevertheless very good and much better than the DVD version.

btw: Amazon can't distinguish between Blu-Ray and DVD versions, so most of the reviews here relate to the DVD version!

1.0 out of 5 stars Truly awful, 16 Sept. 2008
Probably the worst router I've ever had. Wired connection is ok, buy the much hyped wireless capabilities are very poor. Connection drops every 10 minutes, even though the signal strength is supposedly ok. I've tried every tweak I can find, but still much more hassle than a cheaper router.

2.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced and not that good, 25 July 2008

This is hugely overpriced for what it does. I had it for about six weeks before it stopped working. Wish I'd bought a cheaper version!

"In addition to its 7 speakers and active subwoofer...."

Please note - this product is for the amp only, not the speakers.
