4.0 out of 5 stars The usual problem with a sequel I felt, 29 Jan 2013

Not as good as her first in the series, less atmosphere overall. Very twisty plot which is good though. Will continue to read them though as better than most of this style.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just the right size, works superbly, 29 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A great concept and is saving me loads of time finding various leads and connectors. Only quibble would be the price, which seems a bit steep for the actual materials. Nothing else on the market like it though,

At just about the size of the large Ipad this fits nicely into a carry bag with it as well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing special about this, 29 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Pretty standard crime novel, perhaps a little too involved in the amount of characters. Finishes too fast for me. Disappointingly not very rooted in the area in which it is set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good value, 29 Jan 2013

Good design and works very well, particularly like the self clean function. Responsive settings and good range of accessories. using it all the time. Bought to replace broken other model and this is much better quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb read, 29 Jan 2013

Wow! Initially tok a little getting into because of the - at first - odd narrative structure. But once the story develops you see why the narrative structure has to be this way.

This really was a cracking read. Brilliant.

3.0 out of 5 stars Would have been happier had this stayed provincial, 30 Nov 2012

Why oh why when you create a thoroughly believable and interesting character do you then get into ludicrous international computer intrigue which is hardly well explored in terms of the villain's motivation? Its a shame that writer with such manifest ability to get under the skin of the hum drum and 'small town' feels he has to 'go international in order, one assumes, to sell books?

5.0 out of 5 stars I see the Dutch in a new light!, 30 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Up to this book I'd always reckoned the Dutch to be a nice bunch who we got on well with. Well this was a bit of a revelation. Amazing slice of history I knew nothing about.

Staggering fortunes to be made, but also the usual ineptitude and the cheapness of lives - crewing a ship with 3+ times the number so that hopefully some would survive to bring it home?

5.0 out of 5 stars A revelation about an area of history we skim over, 30 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: White Gold (Kindle Edition)
Started to read this as I knew there was some connection with Admiral George Delaval of Seaton Delaval Hall and wanted to know more.

An incredible aspect of our history that I was almost totally unaware of. What a murderous, capricious bunch they were.

Well written book that is partly constructed in a narrative format so you follow a chronology based on one character.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating - forced me to rethink my assumptions about colonisation of America, 30 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
An excellent telling of the early colonisers- and a totally different view of this now I have read about it. What a bunch of crazy people. This totally changed my view of the way America was steeled and how much of a risk it was.

Traitor's Blood: Book 1 of The Civil War Chronicles
Traitor's Blood: Book 1 of The Civil War Chronicles
Price: £5.99

3.0 out of 5 stars Civil War violence meets Sharpe and James Bond, 30 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A fun read, not very demanding. Th author has done a lot of background research and the battle stuff is well done, and gory.

However its all a bit James Bond meets Sharpe with lots of 'derring do' thrown in and the usual charmed life of the hero.

A shame in some ways as Stryker could be a much more rounded person if he was left in the actual history and possibly had soem sense of what was going on around him.
