5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth it, 28 May 2015

The Maxiscan scan tool arrived next day (when I bought it it was fulfilled by Amazon) and was easy set up and running within minutes of unpacking. Buyers should be aware that this comes with NO instructions for use and NO driver or utility software; just a short note explaining that as the software they previously provided was useless so they weren't bothering including anything anymore and recommend that users download and install the Torque app.

I installed Torque Lite (free version) on my HTC One Mini 2 phone running Android 4.4.2. After installing the app, I plugged the scan tool into the ODB port of our BMW. Once the scan tool was powered up (plugged in but without ignition switched on) the phone paired with the scan tool within a few seconds using the passcode '1234'. Switching on the ignition (but not starting the engine) allowed me to check for current and past stored fault codes in the Torque app. With the engine started, the Maxiscan feed engine parameter data to the phone almost in real time with very little lag. The Maxiscan was left connected and monitored the car during a 150 mile trip after which the log was downloaded from Torque. It was also used to calibrate the car’s speedometer.

So far I’ve used the Maxiscan without any problems on the following cars:
- 2013 Vauxhall (aka Opel) Insignia 1.8
- 2004 Porsche Boxster 3.2S
- 2001 Land Rover Freelander 2.5 V6
- 2002 BMW 316ti Compact (E46) with N42 1.8 engine

Personally I find that Piston V1.41 (by Marcin Gierlicki) has a simpler user interface and data display so would recommend Maxiscan users try this app if they struggle to set up and use Torque. Torque display updates are faster and has a superior log export compared to Piston though.

In summary, this scan tool provides exceptional performance at low cost. At much less than a quarter of the price of a diagnostic scan at a garage, the tool will pay for itself the first time you use it, so definitely worth it.

Absolutely perfect. Fits like a glove and after a few months of use has provided a very useful function of protecting our phones from damage caused by everyday bumps, knocks and drops. The transparent colour means the cover does not detract from or impact on the phone's clean design and operation.

Seems overpriced for what it is. I didn't have any real issues installing the thing but this was probably because it was fitted in a relatively clean environment with a high level of humidity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oil, 26 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
What can you say? It arrived within 20 hours of ordering so hurrah for Amazon's pickers and packers, and the Royal Mail boys. It's nice an oily and apparently meets BMW's specification. And it's now made the end of the dipstick look all shiny and clean. The container however appears to have been designed by a dimwit in the marketing department with a bit of help from the bimbo on reception as it spills oil all over the engine when topping up the level. At the prices they charge for this stuff, you'd have thought Castrol would have been able to invest a bit of effort in packaging design. I recommend using a funnel unless you want the contents on the outside of your engine and on the drive rather than in the sump where it seems to work best. Hang on though... maybe that's why Castrol designed it that way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent gloves, 24 Sept. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought these to work on the car, motorcycle and general jobs around the house. I've got fairly small hands (214mm / 8.5" measured around my hand) and these a a good snug fit with no loosness. Compared to latex gloves I have used previously, these are a bit thicker but far more robust and don't seem affected by solvents like white spirit, brake cleaner, carb cleaner or petrol. I can easily manage to make a pair of these last all day without tearing or dropping to pieces. Excellent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Useful To Have In Your Toolbox, 24 Sept. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Having experienced a seized M4 x 10mm countersunk Phillips screw securing the cover of the clutch fluid reservoir of a Honda motorcycle, I ordered a set of extractors. These arrived within 48 hours of ordering. After checking the size of the smallest extractor, I drilled a shallow 3mm hole in the centre of the screw. Using my trusty Mole Wrench to turn the extractor, the extractor screwed itself into the metal and the screw came out easily. I was then able to get on with the job of bleeding the clutch. On the basis of this experience this extractor set is definitely very useful to have in your toolbox.

In terms of usability, it would have been good if the extractors were supplied with an adapter to fit standard 1/4", 3/8" or 1/2" socket drivers that the could be turned more easily. Otherwise you will need a tap wrench extension bar with a capacity of square 2 - 10mm or, like me, a decent flat faced Vise-Grip or Mole Wrench such as http://www.amazon.co.uk/V-GRIP-102L3-Visegrip-Locking/dp/B00004YO5K/ref=pd_bxgy_diy_text_y.

5.0 out of 5 stars ... proved their worth several times now and save a great deal of frustration, 23 Sept. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
These tools have proved their worth several times now and save a great deal of frustration. The most recent being undoing rounded-off rusty 10 mm screws securing the under tray and releasing a rounded-off 12mm caliper bolt on a Land Rover Freelander. These Bolt Grips allowed us to remove these without recourse to the alternatives of cutting, drilling, grinding or welding. We found that the best technique is to select the most appropriate size and gently tapping them down onto the nut, bolt or screw head prior to attempting to unscrew. Applying firm pressure squarely on the remover, and if possible using a T bar with both hands, as it is turned, minimises the possibilty of the tool slipping off. Ideally, you need both the base set and the addition set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Undoes BMW E46 / N42 Oil Filter Housings, 11 Oct. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
After struggling with a strap wrench which kept slipping off, I ordered this cup wrench to undo the filter housing on a BMW 316ti E46 Compact fitted with an N42 engine. It fits on the end of a standard 3/8" drive and allows you to securely undo the oil filter housing fitted to many 2000 - 2006 Model year BMW cars. Removing the wrench from the packaging is nothing that a human of average intelligence can't deal with. At most this is a minor irritation because of the metal 'rivet' used to attach the wrench to the card. Keeping the packing simple and recyclable avoids adding to landfill so is a plus point as far as I'm concerned. I used a pair of needle nosed pliers to crush the rivet and took about 20 seconds to free the wrench. Once the wrench was removed the tool was put into action. It's sturdy enough and the square drive hole is robustly welded to the wrench to ensure a decent amount torque can be applied to both undo and tighten the filter housing. Pleasingly, the tool left no marks on the filter housing which, because of its location on top of the BMW's engine, is very visible under the bonnet.
