4.0 out of 5 stars Shocking, 8 Sept. 2015

If you are looking for a definitive answer to the question of who killed JFK then this book will disappoint you. It is however, authoritative and incredibly detailed. Every possible angle is covered, every one of the many personalities involved is investigated. Was there a conspiracy? Almost certainly. The Mafia, anti-social Castro activists and the CIA all appear to have played a role. Was Oswald a patsy - again almost certainly. But it is incredibly complex - all the main characters seem to have had links to the intelligence services. The Mafia or both. What cannot be in doubt is that the CIA engaged in a massive cover-up of the evidence. And it would appear that they continue to do so. The book contains many bizarre facts of which I was unaware ,- for example Kennedy's brain is still missing. The autopsy photos do not match the injuries reported by those who attended it. At one point it appears that there was more than one Oswald in circulation. So who was the imposter? This is a fascinating but also frustrating book. The truth is that it will probably never be possible to say who exactly conspired to kill JFK. Perhaps the most shocking aspect of the book is the evidence that the CIA worked closely with the Mafia, beyond any political or democratic control.and in the end both wanted Kennedy dead.

Maskerade: A Discworld Novel: 18
Maskerade: A Discworld Novel: 18
by Terry Pratchett
Edition: Mass Market Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Nanny Ogg's Cookbook, 27 July 2015

My favourite Discworld novel - certainly one of the funniest & with a real page turning plot. The highlight must be Nanny Ogg's 'cookbook' 'The Joy of Snacks' which, given the illustrations, is a best seller. Wicked humour throughout. The plot is an excellent mystery whodunnit. Maskerade is Terry Pratchett's at his very best - wonderful humour combined with a really good read. If you are new to the Discworld novels it is better to read them in order so read the others first!

5.0 out of 5 stars Authoritative & Detailed, 24 July 2015
At nearly a 1,000 pages this is a substantial read and somewhat intimidating at first. The first 200 pages are a bit of a slog, covering the background history of Russia pre-first world war. However, it is brilliantly written and very readable. Incredibly detailed and authoritative it answers some of the key questions about the revolution - not least whether a dictatorship was the inevitable result of the Bolshevik seizure of power. The author also sheds some fascinating light on some of the key personalities - Lenin, Kerensky, Trotsky & towards the end of the book Stalin. I learned a great deal from this book and it changed some of my views about the revolution. It's also a very good read - highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Putting the world to rights, 22 July 2015

One of the greatest ever socialists & parliamentarians. This volume , like his others, is warm, witty and moving. What I like most about his diaries, especially the later ones, is how they reveal his humanity and inner thoughts. Here he finally leaves parliament but not of course politics. How I wish we had more people in politics like him. Reading this diary you can imagine yourself sitting down with him for a cup of tea and putting the world to rights. A lovely principled man. This is a wonderful book that you will enjoy, regardless of whether you agreed with his politics

A real return to form. This is a superb doom metal album, much heavier than their recent offerings. Some great tracks - No Hope In Sight, Punishment Through Time, Victim Of The Past & Cry Out are my favourites. And the album ends with the haunting Return To The Sun. Their best album in my view. 5 stars.

Absolutely brilliant. It starts with the magical cover art work and then you enter the wonderful weirdness that is Ozric Tentacles. Some excellent tracks - Space Out, Waldorfdub and Pyoing are particularly good. But the outstanding track is Yoy Mandala - a spacey epic at nearly 12 minutes. Highly recommended - 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant live album, 6 July 2015
This review is from: Live Chronicles (Audio CD)
This is my second favourite live Hawkwind album (nothing can beat Space Ritual). It's a brilliant album, based upon the Elric books of Michael Moorcock. But you don't have to be familiar with the books to enjoy the album. My favourite tracks are Needle Gun, Moonglum, Song of the Swords & Zarozinia. And no live album would be complete without Masters of the Universe. One of their best albums ever. 5 stars.

I have had an iPod classic for many years and have been very pleased with it. I bought another one for my father to listen to his classical music on. It looks great and is very easy to use. I think you pay a bit extra for quality but its worth it. Massive storage capacity. The only criticism would be that it is quite heavy.

Transform Your Life: A Blissful Journey
Transform Your Life: A Blissful Journey
by Kelsang Gyatso
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical, 4 July 2015
Knowing where to start in reading about Buddhism can be bewildering. There are so many books to choose from. In my view this is the best book to start with. It is readable and above all practical. It is designed to use not just to read. Geshe Kelsang stresses in all his books that Dharma is of little value it is seen just as academic knowledge. To be of benefit it needs to be put into practice. This book is suitable for the absolute beginner and will indeed transform your life.
