5.0 out of 5 stars A Vital Book for Knowledgeable People, 3 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Firstly: This is not a book for beginners in sport or health. One look at the "List of Abbreviations" on page 8 should indicate that this is a serious book for very involved people. If you cannot understand even 30% of the meanings behind the abbreviations, then stay away from the book and do not waste your money.
It irritates me when books like this get poor reviews from punters who didn't assess it correctly prior to purchase, Because this book is the real deal and superbly written. Yes, the content is technical and very professional. By that I mean it is written for people who are involved in physiotherapy; therapists who have a half interest in the physical; exercise physiologists and sports' coaches who have an in-depth knowledge of kinesiology, anatomy & physiology. Perhaps even chiropractors could make use of the contents. So the slant is professional
Some of the content is intriguing and truly enlightening. In one of his case studies near the beginning of the book, he outlines a patient who is experiencing pain in the left trapezius. He traces this back to the right gluteus maximus and he relates how he does this. He compares it all to being like a jigsaw puzzle. It is a fascinating read and as you slowly progress through the book you realise you are in the hands of a true enthusiast of his profession. Wonderfully written and illustrated. For someone with the knowledge to understand this content and the importance of this vital muscle, then I highly recommend this book. It is superb.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great film if you are an athletics buff, 3 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Fast Girls [DVD] (DVD)
It's rather cheesey and the outcome isn't hard to guess, but if you are into athletics and sport then this is a super film. It was great to see how hard the lead actresses had to work to get into athletic shape and condition. Boy did they get their eyes opened as to what the elite have to do to achieve success on the track or field. What I liked about this film was that the lead actresses came across as good role models for sporty girls. This is a lovely family film and all credit to the leads. Well worth the watch, especially if you have sporty children.

5.0 out of 5 stars An ideal case for a Seagate External Hard Drive, 3 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This marvellous little case is an absolute prefect fit for a 1Tb Seagate External Hard Drive. There is a little more extra space lengthwise, but that makes it perfect. The main housing holds the drive unit snugly and the modern USB 3 cable is kept safely in the web pocket. The flat sides of the outside of the case are ribbed & rubberised and feel very protective. The back rib is leather(ish) and the zip is substantial. Even the zip tag came wrapped in a small piece of tissue paper. A really neat, well made unit. Very impressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Culinary Adventure, 3 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Bought this beautifully presented book during their current TV series (Feb/Mar 2014). The TV series is truly wonderful to watch and I hope that the BBC bring out a DVD eventually. I have worked and lived in SE Asia and know the area and cuisine well and this book refreshes past memories. It is set out in an easy to read way and nowadays the majority of ingredients are available somewhere. A lot of the dishes dealt with in the TV series and book are really easy to prepare. Cosmetic(!!) woks are available in big department stores, but more useful ones are bought from Asian supermarkets. Season it well, but Dave & Si inform you how to do this. There are a lot of great easy recipes to try. Pre cooking preparation of the ingredients is the key to using a wok to cook SE & NE Asian food. Practice the same dish a few times and you will easily get the hang of how "wok chi" works. What I found really interesting watching the TV series was exactly how the locals do it - the preparation & the procedures & the additions & accessories used. The visuals help the book to really come alive. But a superb book - buy it

3.0 out of 5 stars An interesting story, 3 Mar. 2014

This review is from: Cinema Paradiso [DVD] (DVD)
Cheeky, loveable child gets a friend, who he torments and idolises at same time. He gets taught the cinematic background. He then returns eventually when he is much older (and wealthier) to repay his old friend. Well acted. The film gives you a good feeling about friendships at the end

4.0 out of 5 stars HP XL cartridge is the future, 3 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Thank heavens for other reviewers and their advice to buy the XL and not the ordinary cartridge. Amongst reviews there are always people who know a lot more than you do yourself (thank you experienced reviewers), so it's worth taking on board their wealth of knowledge. The XL is a much fuller cartridge; it's not cheap nowadays but it works out at much, much better value. At the price replacement cartridges are I think I'm going to have to cut down on my document printing. Hopefully this XL one will give me a lot more printing potential.

5.0 out of 5 stars An old film to make you think, 3 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Considering the age of this film and the far more simple technologies available at that time, it is quite stunning. It's almost Hitchcock in its effect, but that would be practically insulting to Charles Laughton, the Director, although it appears to me that he has the same film mentality as Hitchcock, using the black & white to excellent (and scary) effect. Also for the time it must have been quite a sensitive topic to have as a theme. Mitchum is great as the sleazy, hypocritical predator, as is Lillian Gosh as the defender of morals and thus the two children. The two children are wonderful, especially the young boy. His is a truly mature performance. The film reflects on what is out there in real life and that is frightening, but it is as true then as it is now sadly. A great old film to make you think.

4.0 out of 5 stars A revived Johnny Mathis, 3 Mar. 2014

Just wonderful to hear the dulcet tones of the Mathis voice again. Without being truly superb, it's still a lovely, lovely CD with some fabulous duets. He helps along the fabulous traditional Christmas feel. Warm and precious, Johnny is still a master.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very nifty camera charger, 3 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As Panasonic, in their infinite wisdom, do not now include a separate charger with their Lumix TZ40, this marvellous little unit fits the bill really well. It is very compact and fits into a small camera protection bag easily, so you can transport it around safely in car or holdall etc. The spare battery is not as powerful as the supplied one with the camera, but as a stand-by it's fine. As other reviewers have said, it just allows you to use the camera and have the other battery on charge all at the same time. What I do like is the fact that this unit comes with an in-car charger - just plug it into the cigarette lighter socket as you would do a mobile phone whilst driving along. That is going to be very useful if you are out in the great outdoors and away from HQ. Very impressive

5.0 out of 5 stars An accurate Accurist, 3 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A visually beautiful watch with a lovely weighty, chunky feel about it. So far it has kept very accurate time. It takes a little while to sort out how to adjust the watch, but the little manual, which comes with the watch,is easy to fathom out. I took the watch to a local reputable watch repairer to have the wristband adjusted rather than go through the faff of sending it direct to Accurist at a rather high return cost. This for me is a really nice dress watch. Very impressed
