2.0 out of 5 stars Let down by the publisher, 1 Dec 2013
The stories are good enough, but the publisher has let Johnny down by failing to edit properly. For example, on one page Barnstaple is mis-spelt with a "b" instead of a "p", then spelt correctly just a few lines below. Elsewhere, Johnny speaks of the death of a certain woman, and of his responsibility for digging her grave, but then immediately goes on to refer to the deceased repeatedly as "he".

1.0 out of 5 stars Sadly, this book does suck - for users in the UK., 28 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this book believing I would have access to free apps, but although many were described as being free, whenever I tried to download them Amazon's website refused to let me do so, claiming that geographical restraints made it impossible. Why are these apps available free to USA users, but not those in the UK????

1.0 out of 5 stars Close Call, 21 Jun 2010
This is a provisional review: I am only fifty pages into this book, and what I say here can only represent my view of the part I have read. I am finding the style intensely irritating. The author clearly has a wide vocabulary, but he displays his knowledge ostentatiously at times. At other times he is long-winded and tedious: the sentences become overstuffed. Sometimes his choice of words is downright bizarre. Take this example from chapter 5: "Her black hair now hung lank and disordered, like that of a swimmer emerging from dank water". Dank?!
He has a tiresome preference for the relative 'which', rather than 'that' - indeed he never seems to use 'that' at all, when it is the more natural word to use. One senses a pedant or grammar-snob at work here, clinging to some supposed rule that (or, as he would say, 'which') regards only 'which' as acceptable, and 'that' as common, to be avoided at all costs.
