5.0 out of 5 stars A Sure-Fire Bestseller, 2 Jan. 2007
This review is from: My Take (Hardcover)
Who was the only artist to have ten UK number ones in the 90's? Thats right it was Gary Barlow the song writing genius behind the best British band since The Beatles. If you are a fan of the group and Barlow you probably will know most of his story but it is still an interesting read.

The book is packed with great stories and anecdotes from his time before, during and after the band and I couldnt put the book down.

Obviously he speaks in great detail about his relationships with Nigel Martin Smith and Robbie Williams and most of what he writes is what you'd expect him to say.

Barlow comes accross as a top guy who deserves to be in the spotlight again. I'm delighted Take That are back at the top of the music pile and it proves you can never write off a guy with as much talent as Gary Barlow. An absaloute must for Take That and Barlow fans.

Why Keith Urban hasn't cracked the Uk market I will never know. He is clearly the most talented music artist around at the moment. Maybe it is lack of marketing or promotion or the fact that most people will dismiss him as just another country artist without actually listening to his records.

This is a poor assumption to make as Keith Urban writes terrific commercial songs with killer hooks and amazing guitar riffs. He also plays countless other instruments on his records ro prove how talented he is.

The album starts off with a bang with Once in a Lifetime a really good uplifting song which was his first single release from the new album.

Other highlights include Used to the Pain, Faster Car, Wont Let you Down and Shine. My favourite track by a mile is I Told You so. It is a belter of a track and is as good as any Urban classic from previous albums.

This album probably won't give Urban the recognistion he deserves in Britain but it will further cement him as a superstar in the USA. Those of us who do appreciate Keith Urban will love this album. It is another fine effort and a great addition to the already impressive Keith Urban catalogue.

I agree with the other reviews for this album. It is class. Medusa is the worst song on the album but the other 9 tracks are fantastic. This is definetly a must buy for catley and magnum fans and in fact any rock fan for that matter.
Stand out tracks are shelter from the night, hydra and tender is the night. The show stealer though is the light. This is a belter of a song and worth the price of the album alone.

My favourite live singer is Bob Catley. He never drops a note. Singing is all Catley does he has never written a song. All of Magnum's songs are written by Clarkin and Catley has had all of his solo albums written for him. This is no bad thing. The songwriters write great songs and Catley sings the songs tremendously. Compared to the other Catley albums I own (all except the Tower) this is just as good. Stand out tracks are beautiful mind, in the name of the cause and the Spirit of man. End of the story has exactly the same guitar riff as the Magnum song Before first light. It didn't bother me the song was still good.
If you liked When Empires Burn you'l like this because its the same songwriters and band memebers involved here and Bobs voice is just as brilliant as ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Under-rated Band Ever!, 13 Oct. 2004
This review is from: Best Of Def Leppard (Audio CD)
The thing I hate about going to see successful bands and artists is that they often leave some of their biggest hits off the playlist and can leave you feeling short changed. Thats one of the things I love about Leppard. They always play their biggest hits and never leave you disappointed.
Def Leppard released their Greatest Hits album Vault in 1995 but unlike their live concerts the album forgot about a few fan favourites and rock classics. Their new Best Of album rights the wrongs of the last collection. This time we have Women, Foolin, Die Hard the Hunter, Promises and countless others together with the usual classics like Animal, Photograph and Lets Get Rocked and not forgetting their biggest UK hit When Love and Hate Collide.
Te first CD is just Vault in the same listing order with their last top 40 hit Long, Long Way to Go added to the existing tracks. The second CD includes all the favourites that Vault left out plus more fantastic songs the band have written since 1995. It also includes a cover of the Kinks Waterloo Sunset which is a decent tribute to the original.
Leppard are the masters of killer choruses and amazing hooks and rythmns.
If you don't know much about their music buy this album. You'll instantly recognise about ten songs that you already liked but didn't know that it was Leppard that sung them. These guys have sold rediculous amounts of albums- especially in America where Hysteria alone sold 20 million!
All their songs are happy uplifting classics with catchy guitars and breathtaking production.
I am often ridiculed for liking this great band but you can't deny that Leppard are responsible for some cracking songs. All those who doubt or ridicule just buy this album. I dare you not to love a collection of brilliant tracks by the greatest band in the world.
