Robert B. Parker's Lullaby (A Spenser Mystery) (The Spenser Series Book 40)
Robert B. Parker's Lullaby (A Spenser Mystery) (The Spenser Series Book 40)
Price: £4.74

4.0 out of 5 stars Robert B Parker Lullaby, 25 Mar. 2013
Having been a fan of Parker's Spencer novels for over 25 years I have very much hoped that someone might have the wit and wisdom to pick up the mantle following RBP' s death.

I approached Ace Atkins "Parker" with a degree of skepticism only to be delighted to find an author able to to take Spencer forward with intelligent prose, a fast moving plot and just the right dosage of potent humour.

Congratulations Mr Atkins, you have me hooked!

2.0 out of 5 stars What a dull knight!, 6 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I found the book dull and how any modern author could make England's Greatest Knight seem dull beats me...but Mr Crouch manages it.
In the interest of retaining friendships I would commend it to no one. As an an alternative and much more accessible volume
I would suggest "William Marshal Earl of Pembroke"by Catherine Armstrong published in the USA by Seneschal Press.

5.0 out of 5 stars Both Useful and Beautiful, 18 April 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
For the person like myself who loves poetry as a mirror reflecting every human mood, like the Bible's Book of Psalms, this collection has it all...all human life is there. You will meet the familiar which has already sounded echoes in your heart, and the new which will take you, whatever your age, into new and challenging places. It is a book to comfort but in the Latin meaning of the word:"to strengthen".

5.0 out of 5 stars If only I had thought of that 5 minutes ago, 23 July 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A brilliant cornucopia of wit and wisdom, full of amusing ripostes and scalding "put you downs". Some are as corny as Harvest but many are original, going straight for the jugular of one's verbal opponent...if only in verbal swordplay one were allowed a moment to consult this volume...victory would be assured.

3.0 out of 5 stars Did Parker finish this?, 3 Dec. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Fans of Robert B Parker will have been deeply saddened to hear of his sudden death earlier this year. Having read this last book I regret that I found it thin (insubstantial)both in plot and dialogue and I wonder if someone else had been tasked to finish a work which Parker had begun? If this is the case, and I have no evidence for it except that which the text of the novel gave up,
it does little to honour Robert Parker's extraordinary, consistent and thoroughly intelligent contribution to the American crime genre over many years. Let his rest in peace now.
