1.0 out of 5 stars Chalky, bitter, nasty, 4 Jan 2014
Purchased it and regretted it immediately. It dissolved after some rigorous shaking into a bitter, chalky and foul concoction. The vanilla flavouring could not mask it. I have no idea why it is bitter. Compared to other brands this was a huge disappointment. A little emulsifier like lecithin in the formulation wouldn't hurt. It's pure as it claims but really disappointing.

Saw a mouse creep by the wall. The next night I used one of these. Didn't think it would work, but in the morning - a restless night - I see a mouse stuck on it. The small critter had managed to dislodge the board by about an inch from the wall, so I doubt these would work for rats.

Can't be reused though, but they are good when the vermin aren't attracted by traps and are creeping for a warm place.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nifty, solid, inexpensive, 24 Dec 2013

Been using it to dismantle bits of electronics whenever they needed a tinker, especially my laptop.

I like that they fall neatly into slots, one look and you can pick the head you want.

Nice to hold and great value for money. Of course, they're not made with the best metal, but for the occasional tinker they are well worth the . When the most commonly used heads wear down I expect to have to buy another set, but since I am quite an infrequent tinkerer it's great.

The Mind's I: Fantasies and Reflections on Self and Soul (Penguin Press Science)
The Mind's I: Fantasies and Reflections on Self and Soul (Penguin Press Science)
by Douglas R. Hofstadter
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Whimsical and otherworldly, sometimes disturbing, other times persuasively rational, 8 Jun 2013

This book puts into place an alternative perspective of how we process information. It is neither too religious nor excessively academic, and is highly inquisitive about questions of philosophical grounding from many other perspectives: scientific, literary, mathematical. When reading it I had the perception that thinkers of the world have been pondering the nature of our humanity and the means to replicate or sustain it, albeit from many disciplines with varied ends in mind. In searching for answers, evidence, and sometimes resolutions to this pressing question of the unique human consciousness, the selected texts and the analyses made me consider the finer distinctions and multitude of similarities between concepts from seemingly disparate schools of thought.

Some of the selected texts I preferred greatly (and thus re-read them). Others I found a bit jarring for my tastes and did not engage particularly deeply with them, finding them somewhat too literary or incoherent for my tastes. Then again, it is Jorge Luis Borges we are talking about ;-) and he does enjoy shocking his readers and leaving them discombobulated.

Overall, if you are a curious observer of humanity and enjoy wondering what the substance of the mind and identity is, this is a read that pulls things together and puts it all in one place for you. And then you can continue your random thoughts ... :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Heady, 8 Jun 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A very heady and intense book. It overpowers you and wraps you within the needy and vicelike read of the narrator's psyche.

If you have loved and lost, or are falling in love, it is bittersweet and heartrending, and at once soothes your pain and inflames it with fresh, emergent reminders of the incoherence of emotion.

It is a very self-indulgent read - and not in a bad way. Something to read on your own, in private, and to take meaningful pauses at every other sentence or so to wonder about your own life and memories...

5.0 out of 5 stars Succinct and well-organised, 8 Jun 2013

I read this book in sequence from introduction to end, and as a new student of law I found it superbly organised. Early mentions of concepts made reference to later chapters and directed the reader that the text would cover the topic in depth, and when I reached the later chapters it built upon the understanding I had from the general introduction. In some texts one would have to turn to the index for this service, as chapters are isolated and the text may not be self-referential. This is not one of them.

For new students of land law, the subject matter is frequently dense and almost idiosyncratic, to the point that it is overwhelmingly characterised as technical without any real rationalisation for its design. This book gives reasons and builds true understanding for those who require to know not merely how things work, but why they work in that fashion. I enjoyed the thorough analysis of the design of the Acts and benefited greatly from the historical context of land use and registration. The text also highlighted case development in an almost chronological fashion, which greatly reduces the typical confusion by new students as judicial decisions and their hierarchy may result in an understanding riddled with errors as to points of law. The fine distinctions made in the text's organisation of chapters and different kinds of land or disputes or parties also help to rein in the new student's propensity to muddle them all together on the virtue of the similarity in cases and blunder in identifying applicable case references.

In all I find this an excellent text. Compared to other more accessible (or shall I say, simplified) texts on modern land law, which can be instructional (the how), this book is quite liberal in incorporating academic opinions and analyses, and in doing so, makes a genuinely curious student intrigued and grateful for the guidance. It is indeed what it says on its cover.

Garusana - Vanilla cream biscuits 500g
Garusana - Vanilla cream biscuits 500g

1.0 out of 5 stars Completely disgusting and rancid, 9 Mar 2013
The 'cream' was waxy and smelled like soy bean oil. The biscuits cottony and cheap, worst than a value brand rich tea biscuit.

Do not buy this. I couldn't finish my first biscuit of the entire barrel! Into the rubbish it goes! Stick to the Dutch brands. This one is AWFUL.
