4.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect, 19 Oct 2014

This box was to replace a faithful old Topfield 5810 that had started to show signs of age. First impressions are that it is an amazing smallish box thst makes it easy to choose an HD version of a programme, very easy to use guide and internet catchup is almost seamless. Coupled with a smartphone app for when you're out and have forgotten to set something to record it's a genuinely nice piece of kit to use.

My only gripe though is that after a couple of days of use new recordings, no matter what the reception quality, start to jump and show signs of poor reception (even with a signal strength of 89%+). The only way round it is to power it off completely on a daily basis - the day your forget you *will* notice jumpy recordings. Hard to find out why online as well as the only mention of it puts it down to poor reception.

This film is so bad (see all other reviews for why) and is not really worth the 1 star ...

4.0 out of 5 stars A thoroughly enjoyable account of the Falklands conflict, 11 Jan 2014

This review is from: 100 Days (Paperback)
Admittedly I am a little biased because I know the author but I found this an entertaining and informative read that kept me awake late at night because I didn't want to stop reading. The book is a historically correct account of the Falklands War but with names changed and some characters embellished to turn it into a gripping story rather than a dry account of the authors time on board a warship during the conflict.

At times you realise you are reading an author's first novel but the rest of the time you are learning about the warships of the Royal Navy, the men who live and work on them and the fight to free the islands from the Argentine invaders.

A thoroughly recommended read for anybody, not just those of us old enough to remember the Falklands war.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bloody awesome, 16 May 2013

This review is from: Now What ?! (Audio CD)
I've not listened to an album solidly like this for a long time. There's a mix of old and new Purple here and all I can say is this album is long over due, please keep going, and well done 'cos it's fantastic.
Catchy "proggy" tunes that just get you and hold you and Ian's voice is brilliant. Sure there's more production gone into this album than you might have expected but I think I'll still be listening and enjoying it in the same way I love Abandon and Banana's - can't wait to see them live again now.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good but prone to failure, 27 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This could be an amazing product as it works brilliantly, when it works.

The relay went in the first unit so that it tries to switch things off (the light on the unit turns off) but power remains on so everything is in standby. Reprogramming makes no difference - the light goes off after a minute of the main appliance being switched off but the power isn't actually cut. The same has just started happening with the second (replacement) unit.

Neither of the units I have had have lasted more than 3 months and I am in the process of contacting the company who, to their credit, were extremely helpful at getting me a new one out when the first failed. I hope they are just as helpful this time round.

It's a real shame because it's great knowing you're saving power when all these items are not in use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard little case with plenty of style, 28 May 2012

Bought this for my wife's new Lumix camera.

Not only does she love the design but it's small enough to fit in her bag easily, while hard enough to protect the camera within.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quiet and efficient, 11 Nov 2007
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
We've owned countless dustbusters in the past and they all seem to die round about the 12 month mark, either by wearing out (I guess my wife scrubs too hard when doing the kitchen floor) or just becoming so bad at picking up dirt/holding a charge that they are useless. We've tried alternatives to Black & Decker and been equally disappointed (not tried the Dyson but the battery life is so poor we're not likely to).

We've only owned this one a few months and it is superb. It's quiet (some other dust busters are horribly loud and the frequency of the noise drove me mad) and the cyclonic action means the suction is good enough to use for real jobs, rather than just the odd patch of dried mud and crumbs in the kitchen.

Time will tell whether it lasts, but so far so (very) good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quiet and quick, 11 Nov 2007

This was bought as a replacement for a 12 year old single foil electric razor that was starting to take too long to do the job.
This is quieter and faster and does indeed give a good wet-shave feel, though I am finding the neck suffers from shaving rash more than previously. To be fair though, the booklet that comes with this shaver says that it can take 2-3 weeks before you get used to it, though it doesn't actually say why.

Basically does what it says on the tin, but is hard to clean, slow, not great at filtering out smells and, worst of all, has now given up the ghost after less than 2 years (lid will not stay shut).

2.0 out of 5 stars A messy shame, 20 May 2006
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Having read another review I bought this for my wife as I'm fed up with expensive dustbusters giving up the ghost just after the warranty runs out.

It's nice and quiet, and a nice size BUT an absolute pig to open, which means most of the contents go just about everywhere but where you want them. It also has a bag as a filter and everything sticks to it, making it even harder to empty. And we all know what's going to happen when said bags pores get all blocked up don't we? Yep, lack of suction...
