A brilliantly written book, exciting, sad, funny and very informative of the times it was portraying. The whole trilogy was a joy to read. Very good descriptions of the times, the feelings and dynamics of the families and the close community. As always this writer excelled in the descriptions of the attitudes ,fashions
Weather all set to make this an enjoyable experience. What a great journey this takes you on and one that I would recommend to all readers.

Amazing book. Starting with the friendships of families from different class. to the second word war and how it reflects on the group of friends and family. Great care has been taken as to the information of both British and German politics.

As always the description of clothes and settings make you feel so much more in touch with the characters. I would recommend this book to all readers.

Brilliantly written book. Well researched and gives you a true feeling of how things were during the war and after. Strong characters, who live through the terrible times. How they were affected by the war. Their prejudice and yet their ability to survive in a time of great sadness and loss.
Every family is taken through great hardships yet they stay friend's and the community is at last at peace. But at what price? What does the future hold for them as individuals? Can't wait to read the next book.

This book was an emotional roller coaster of all the characters in the story. But so well written that it was a joy to read. The pain of the main character's was so intense and yet they survived and found closure. Brilliant book.

Yet another thrilling tale of the quest of the order of darkness.wonderfully written and researched. The people of Venice, merchants and families was really good. The history of the traders in gold gave a great insight to the way the world of traditional dealing sought power through greed and and slavery.I would recommend this book to all readers and am looking forward to reading the third book

Fascinating characters in a journey to bring justice and truth to a time when ignorance and cruelty were rife. It also takes the reader into the so called Christian faith and looks at the hipoctricy within its so called faith. A medieval time, with great tales and wonderfully written.
I would recommend this book to all readers who enjoy looking back to the past .
