Tarot of the Magical Forest by Lo Scarabeo (July 8 2008)
Tarot of the Magical Forest by Lo Scarabeo (July 8 2008)

Edition: Cards

5.0 out of 5 stars Payday arrived this week and The Magical Tarot was my choice of treat from my "pocket money" and i'm not disappointed. Unwrappin, 25 April 2015
The Tarot of the Magical Forest is a deck i've had my eye on, with it saved on my wish list for quite a while. Recently it has been popping up in various places online and each time it has really made me smile with its cute and quirky characters. Payday arrived this week and The Magical Tarot was my choice of treat from my "pocket money" and i'm not disappointed.

Unwrapping the box, revealed a standard tarot box however this one had a nice glossy finish to it. The deck enclosed was plastic wrapped and accompanied with a little white book of 63 pages of which on 14 are in English with the remainder in Italian, Spanish, French and German. For a beginner to Tarot this would be a problem as there is not enough information to work with however the information provided gives an introduction to the idea of The Magical Forest Tarot and some interesting perspectives to each card.

This Tarot being my first purchase of a Lo Scarabeo deck I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm really impressed by the quality and feel of this deck and especially love the image on the reverse of the card with it's kaleidoscope effect of a forest scene. The cardstock is of a reasonable thickness and has a silky matte texture without being too slippery. The cards measure 6.5cm x 12cm.

The Major Arcana cards have the numbers written in Roman numerals with the Minor Arcana in Arabic numberals. When you see the cards laid out it's easy to spot the The Majors from the Minors and because the size of the numbers is in a large font you see it easily. What I like too is that the name of the card is written in small font so really you notice the image and the number first without having the name and number written out in full. It feels clean and uncluttered. Each of the suits are illustrated with a particular animal, rabbits with chalices, frogs with wands, foxes with pentacles and cats with swords. The Major Arcana are illustrated with a variety of animals such as pigs, sheep, owls, hedgehogs, polar bears and bats to name a few.

I'm so pleased to at last have this deck , there is a simplicity and ease of reading these cards as well as a feeling of delight and fun. You can't help but smile. This will be a great deck for those days were you are feeling light hearted, days where you really need a lift or with children who are curious about Tarot.

I really enjoy so many of the cards but my two favourites have to be the Strength and Hanged Man cards.

This review is from: Celtic Lenormand (Cards)
The Celtic Lenormand is written by ChloŽ McCracken with artwork by Will Worthington.

The set is comprised of 45 cards and a 188 page guidebook with images of each card in black and white. These are contained in a box with removable lid which is of good quality and which you could quite easily continue to keep the set in.

The guidebook is an actual little book which makes me so happy, not a funny little white booklet. The cover is sturdy enough and decorated with artwork from the deck with nice quality pages within. The font and layout is pleasant to read.

The cards are slightly smaller than a playing card 9cm x 5.7cm with rounded corners, the images are beautiful, colourful and borderless, (fantastic news for those of us who don't enjoy borders). The cardstock is a pleasant thickness, not to stiff or too thin and the lamination is matte so the cards are not slippery to handle.

The Celtic Lenormand has 9 additional cards to the 36 cards in a traditional Lenormand deck meaning the deck can not only be used as a traditional Lenormand but also to expand the use of the deck with the aspects of Pagan beliefs and teachings within the Lenormand system.

There is so much more to this deck because of this, which is what makes me love this deck. It opens up the use of the Lenormand for more spiritual experiences, exploration and work. The inclusion of a choice for some of the cards allows the reader to expand the deck and adapt it as needed to work with Deities, family groups, aspects of life, seasons, same sex partnerships, wheel of life and more.

In addition to meanings for each card the book also contains advice on working with Deity, using the cards in spells and a good selection of spreads.

This review is my early impression and thoughts on the deck and book after spending an afternoon meeting the Celtic Lenormand for the first time. I look forward to really absorbing myself in the cards and book and working with them over the coming weeks and months, coming back to update this review further.

My personal feeling about the Celtic Lenormand is that it really speaks to me and the artwork is wonderful and imagery descriptive. I'm excited because being relatively new to Lenormand as a system i've been feeling that some things were missing for me or not quite tying up together. Now at last my feeling is one of knowing that things make more sense, the pathway more clear and this is largely due to the Pagan influences which i'm familiar with.

Straps broke away after one use, which was a shame as the overall look was good and looked promising for storage. Returned it.

Love it, makes Sunday pancake making so easy. Have not used it yet for cupcakes as my recipe makes a rather thick batter but will try another recipe to give it a go.

It's a pretty book but the photos are a bit too over the top in places. There isn't enough to really get your teeth into and a lot of the projects are basic or obvious and can already be found on the net. I'd say its a book for a complete beginner.
