5.0 out of 5 stars DigiKal Reggae, 10 Aug. 2010
This review is from: Chill Out (Audio CD)
This Lp marked the fullest move towards electronic and digital effects within Reggae so far. It was informed by New York's fascination with Electro and the possibilties of new technology. Not that it is cold, in fact the lyrics and singing of Rose are fantastic...Emotional Slaughter is incredibly moving. The whole Lp is great but stand outs for me are: Mondays(the quintisential I don't want to go to work track) and Darkness("Darkness seems to cover the world").
Part of Uhuru's incredible run of great Lps in the late 70s and early 80s. Buy It, you wont be disapointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Stuff, 17 July 2010

This is a very good LP, contains some top vocals and the usual brilliant playing by the Roots Radics. Fans of the Wailing Souls, The Itals etc will love this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Should be better known, 22 Jun. 2010
This review is from: Give Me Power (MP3 Download)
Love this LP, rolling tunes blend into a seamless whole. Similar to Wailing Souls but not as forthright. Give this a listen and you wont be disapointed. Favourites include In Deh and River Jordan.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not brilliant, 8 Jun. 2010
This review is from: The Wrong Boy (Paperback)
I should have loved this, the setting of working class Manchester and the music of Moz are right up my street(literally) but it never really gripped me;I ploughed through it in the hope it would spark into life but it didnt.
The comedy just wasnt funny enough and the characters were too one dimensional sit com northern(1960's style). The main character was more annoying than anything else. I found the ending interesting in that Raymond was obviously still disturbed/hallucinating , which added a kick in the backside to the "happy ending". It made you realise that his previous version of early childhood events were probably dubious too. Not a terrible book, but I can't see how it got such top reviews.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Brilliance, 28 May 2010
This review is from: Stranded (Audio CD)
Another fantastic addition to the wailing Souls' run of amazing early 80's Lps.
This has more of an emphasis on keyboards and lead guitar than earlier Lps. Some brilliant tracks here: War round..; File for your Machete; The best is yet... This is a definite must have.

What a fantastic LP, love the title track, Baga Trouble, Sticky Stay, Ishen tree, Riddem of life...well all of them really. Another great from the Wailing souls golden period.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic from his golden period, 23 April 2010
This review is from: Soon Forward (Audio CD)
This is another classic from the late 70's early 80's golden period of Gregory Isaacs.
More militant sufferers tunes and less lovers rock styles on this than on his later LPs.

Perry Boys: The Casual Gangs of Manchester and Salford
Perry Boys: The Casual Gangs of Manchester and Salford
by Ian Hough
Edition: Paperback
Price: £7.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Lois, Flickers and Man. Utd, 15 April 2010
This is a fantastic book, more of a social history of a particular place and time than just another hooligan book or a middle class "footy" thesis. This book brought back so many memories; the Manchester Liners building on the docks, Lois jeans, Flicker haircuts...Ignore the negative review posted earlier. If you are the type of person who rates a book called "30 years of hurt" at 5 stars, then this might not be for you. But if you really lived your football culture not just second hand emotion peddled by the media, then this is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Future than the Future, 4 April 2010
This review is from: Love And Dancing (Audio CD)
Can't add much to the miriad of 5 star reviews; just to say that I can still remember the time I first listened to this, it immediately made everything else sound old fashioned and tired. This was the sound of the future! It was so fantastic production wise that very little electronic music could compare to it subsequently. This remix LP is a genuine revolutionary record; the first of its kind. I still dont think the drum sounds and electronnic basslines have been bettered in nearly(OMG)30 years.
