I bought this to while away a Sat night when my GF was away on holiday. It was a terrific piece of entertainment. I don't know how this film slipped under my radar all this time, but it did. It also has a very effective ending and a coda which is full of the blackest humour given what the viewer has been watching for 110 mins. I really enjoyed and I hope you will too

5.0 out of 5 stars A lovely read, 6 Jan 2013

Met the author recently and he was very modest indeed. This book is a lovely wander through tour coverage and begins with the first tour I followed on the radio, 1980 in the Windies. The action really begins in 1981-2 in India, a tour I followed closely. The cricket was dour, but the coverage was wonderful and PB understands his audience, many of whom were tucked up under a warm duvet, but felt as if we were next to the team in Delhi or Calcutta such was the quality of the production. Big thanks to PB, if you love TMS, buy this book, a steal at £5.44!

4.0 out of 5 stars Plenty to commend it, 6 Jan 2013

The original cut of this album was simply 10 tracks. I bought the cassette in 1986 on the day of its release! This updated version adds some tracks which should never have seen the light of day and would not were it not for McCartney being the writer. A very different production feel to this compared to its predecessors. A friend dislikes it and there are some Marmite tracks, which you love or hate. I do one, my friend the other!

5.0 out of 5 stars Region free and feature packed, 6 Jan 2013

A wonderful slow burner of a film with a final scene which leaves you breathless at the devastating catharsis just witnessed. It is a film to savour and watch undisturbed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent entertainment, 10 Aug 2012

This is a terrific purchase for those people who recall the series or films and also have a multi region player. It is best not to dwell too long on the storylines as sometimes great leaps of faith are called for. Just be carried along by the wit and repartee of the main 2 characters and the chemistry between them. Along the way we meet varied villains all hell bent on world domination. There are few moments of tension, but lots of humour, well written lines and some great actors doing their best with scripts written for the small screen almost 50 years ago. Watch them with a 1960s eye not the cynical one of 2012 and 90 minutes entertainment is guaranteed for each of the 8 films here. My personal favourites are The Spy in the Green Hat and The Helicopter Spies, though all merit an uninterrupted viewing. Open Channel D!

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful - avoid, 18 Jun 2011

I have all the United season reviews back to 1988. This quite simply is dreadful. The main problem is 2 fold. One, the camera angles. As soon as you get to the goals, the build up is flashed in from 3 or 4 camera angles and the goal is never from the angle it should be. It is difficult to describe how annoying this is. Someone has edited and put this together who is very clever with machines, but knows NOTHING about what footy fans want to watch. Whoever has approved this owes me money and 2 hours of my life.

The second problem is too much talk and not enough action. At one point we get a 2 minute re run of the 2008 CL final, a great memory , yes, but why would I want to watch it at this point in the 2010/11 review.

It is so disappointing that such a momentous campaign is ruined for posterity by a muppet with a machine who wanted to show off rather than show the football

1.0 out of 5 stars Dreadful picture, 11 April 2011

Oh dear - I sat back to enjoy this film and was transported back to the days of pirate video. The picture is simply dreadful - wait for a good quality DVD or better still - the blu ray!

5.0 out of 5 stars Prepare to be amazed, 6 July 2010

I was a huge Avengers fan in the 80s when Channel 4 repeated them. This release is superb. The picture quality is outstanding and considering the material is 45 years old and has perhaps not been stored as well as a Hollywood blockbuster from the time, we are v lucky to have it. There are a terrific set of extras, some to interest the devotees of the series and others for the more casual viewer. I would love to see a Blu Ray transfer and at some point we will. In the meantime, enjoy anew this series with its witty dialogue, over the top villains and marvellous performances from actors you will see on British TV again and again in the 60s and 70s (John Le Mesurier, Peter Wyngarde and Patrick Mower. There have been delays in the production of this DVD and others in the series but apart from a couple of small typos, it is an example of gettings things right eventually rather than rushing dvds out and them having to be recalled. I can't wait for series 5 & 6

4.0 out of 5 stars Works very well, 15 Nov 2009

I have a small living room and did not want wires trailing all over the place. It was set up v quickly (simply plug the transmitter card into the back of the blu ray player) and hey presto you have wireless sound for the rear speakers. The unit sits on the floor behind my sofa and the speakers either side of the sofa. It is one more thing to switch off and I do think it is a bit pricey, esp when compared to the cost of the blu ray player and surround speakers (400). Wires go from the rear speakers into the back of the kit. Considering how much you can spend on home cinema, this works well, and my girlfriend likes it too!
