1.0 out of 5 stars Lots of words and nothing happens, 30 Nov. 2012
This review is from: The Death of Eli Gold (Paperback)
I rarely give up on a book but this one was tedious beyond belief. The characters are generally entirely unlovable and descriptions that take pages to complete leave the pace slower than a contestant on Big Brother.

I very nearly made it to the halfway point, but then a recently painted wall captivated my attention.

4.0 out of 5 stars Certainly raises the pulse rate!, 9 Nov. 2012
The overall feeling of this book is that it's all a bit formulaic. No bad can befall the goodies and the baddies are very bad and an entirely stereotypical hero (a rather predictable and frankly boring character) is required to save the day. Well, I don't want to spoil it, so the storyline is quite not that simple, with the odd delicious twist, but the premise feels very familiar.

That aside, it's certainly gripping and a painful reminder that life is not always a bed of roses. The side characters feel very real (often more real than the main characters) and there's great use of dialogue. This book quickly got me hooked and it was hard to resist just another chapter even with the aforementioned faults. I will bale out of a book quite readily, and this one kept me turning the virtual pages until the end.

It's also fun to see the two main storylines flirt with each other throughout the story. You're never quite sure how inter-twined they're going to get, and I'm not going to ruin it by telling you here.

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't get me hooked, 4 Nov. 2012
This review is from: Hidden (Kindle Edition)
Sorry to go against the flow of positive comments but this book fell short of satisfaction and I gave up after three clunky chapters. The characters were ill-described and rather too obvious, with jarring, hypocritical features. I've met many, many people with a psychology background and not one of them has felt the need to either dress up to the nines or drive around in a sports car. She sounds more like the author's dream girl than a believable character. Any book that contains lines like 'she wasn't beautiful but...' is going to turn me off pretty swiftly. I applaud the subject matter but personally, this book was not for me. Others have enjoyed it, which just goes to prove that we're all different. I don't write my review to cause upset, just to try and give my opinion that will hopefully be of use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, 27 Sept. 2005
Hadn't heard of Ladytron until a friend directed me to their website.Watched the video for Destroy Everything... and was blown away! It's like St. Etienne dripping with electronic funk allied to a hint of Scissor Sisters with a darker mood. It's great and they are a band to watch out for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the money, 10 Feb. 2005
Let's face it. its a good price for a bluetooth headset but it doesn't feel cheap. Ok, so the novely of looking like a robot will wear off (why silver?) but the functionality is great. There is a multi-function buttom, you can use voice dialling and battery life is impressive. A good buy but would be even better if it included an in-car charger. It does come with a home charger.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eccentrically Wonderful, 6 Jan. 2005
Following their hilarious spot on Jool's Holland's Hootenany when they covered "Smells Like Teen Spirit," I simply had to buy this album and I was not disappointed. My fave is Leaning on a Lamp-post. Brilliant! Go on Amazon, get some of their other albums on here!

1.0 out of 5 stars Penn and Teller Phobia, 11 Jun. 2004
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
After reading the review, I decided to give it a go having fond memories from when they were on telly. I couldn't have been more disappointed. There are funny sketches with no humour and throughout, some poor bloke is forced to crawl through a plastic tunnel. Oh how I laughed. Not at all.
The magic content is very low, replaced by gross-out, blood-soaked so called humour.
Penn and Teller are very talented magicians but here they cop out to entertainment and the results are unpleasant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant - in a Welsh accent, 6 Feb. 2004
Not only is this one of the funniest stand-up routines I have ever seen, it is also brilliant from a musical point of view. The Irish version of Countdown, Belgian Jazz, Daytime Drum and Bass Babylon, all brilliant. He also does one of the best Welsh accents I have heard which is important when he is in Wales for this DVD!
It is a bit slow to start and quite odd in places (the joke about God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit for instance) but once you are done with the main feature, you can play the Shed game!
Great! Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Senseless Voilence! Brilliant!, 12 Jan. 2004
Nothing beats getting in from a hard day at work, cranking up the Xbox and then running around beating up prostitutes and smashing up as many cars as you can! The escapism this game offers is fantastic and fully demonstrates why this game has an 18 certificate. Do not attempt any of this at home!
Any review under the Playstation 2 fully applies here and the cheats are even the same albeit you will need to find an article which explains the button differences.
I haven't had it long enough to take seriously yet. Finding the low gravity cheat and the one that makes cars bounce was too much fun! Flying Fire Engines? This game has everything!

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome and British too!, 21 May 2003
Awsome really is the only way to describe this game. The graphics are amazing (apart from the 2-D spectators) and the handling/general car feel so good that you really will cringe when you "loose it!" This will also cause your car to pick up some very realistic damage! It took a while to get used to but now I've had the game for a couple of months, I just love the accuracy. Slip a tyre off the track and you have to react very quickly or the scenery comes at you once more!
Even the occupants of the car react to your every move and if you manage to roll, try a replay and watch them hold onto the roll-cage! You can have hours of fun racing yourself or just simply finding the most spectacular way to destroy your car! The Amazon price is good value and you will not get bored quickly!
A brilliant game then so why not 5 stars?
Well, the actual gameplay is a bit limited. There are only single stages or a full 3 year championship (only in a Focus, choice for the Stages). Compare this with Rallisport Championship where you can race other cars and it is possible to find yourself wanting more options.
But the biggest reason for only 4 stars is that the only way to unlock cheats is to either phone a premium rate number with your unique reference or pay on the Codemaster website.
But this is still VERY much worth buying. The only problem is that it has immediately made my other driving games seem rather poor! I eagerly await Driver on Xbox!
