4.0 out of 5 stars A classic, 16 Feb. 2013

One of the "greatest" movies ever made. Carpenter is a genius, of course, and makes the movie he wants.

No Spanish audio track docks a few points of the review, but other than that, the DVD is correct.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another must, 16 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Except the "every development team needs a shared computer with 1 megabyte of RAM" part, Brooks ancient advice is still applicable today. Nails it, really. The book articulates lots of stuff that were on your mind before, and some you didn't realize.

4.0 out of 5 stars Oh, C++ is really a complex language, 16 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've been programming forever (10 yrs. professionally, 5 yrs. studying, a few more as a kid) and while I'm an acceptable C coder, I've never known any real C++. This book was recommended to me by C++ experts and it seems to cover *true* C++.

I don't think I'll ever write C++- too complex for most uses and I don't think I'll need it (no high-performance programming for me), but the book was comprehensible and thorough.

The Practice of System and Network Administration
The Practice of System and Network Administration
by Thomas A. Limoncelli
Edition: Paperback
Price: £25.49

5.0 out of 5 stars Imprescindible, 16 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The book gives you solid fundaments to apply to system administration. It doesn't cover any specifics, so it won't help with little problems, but will give you great guidelines to design great systems and their maintenance process.

by C.J. Date
Edition: Paperback
Price: £22.97

5.0 out of 5 stars It wasn't what I expected, but great, 16 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I hoped this book would give me solid theory to help me design better databases. It really doesn't, but it explains the relational model greatly, and will give you insight on all areas of database development.

4.0 out of 5 stars Correct reference, 16 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this as a reference, as I sometimes need to manage Windows servers and I'm a total newbie- plus it's hard to find good, authoritative material online if you don't have enough knowledge to judge.

It seems to be OK, but circumstances have made me stay away from Windows servers for a while.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must, 16 Feb. 2013

It seems that all projects nowadays are death marches, and this book nails death marches. So if you are involved in commercial software development, read this.

This book provides some commonly-needed models and it will save you some time by giving you a well-made base schema.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, not as good as the first one, 16 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The models described in this book are more "specialized" than the first one. Plus, some of the web-related models are a little bizarre. But still, educative.

3.0 out of 5 stars the weakest of the trio, 16 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought it for completeness sake, but if you're not obsessed with not having the entire collection and the areas included in the book are not interesting to you, do not buy it.
