Price: £0.65

1.0 out of 5 stars Nothing to do with Honey Badgers - so don't buy it..., 11 April 2016
This app purports to be HD wallpapers of Honey Badgers. The Honey badger (also known as the Ratel) lives in parts of Africa. The badgers pictured here are Eurasian Badgers (which lives across Europe and into Asia). The Eurasian Badger is a completely different species to the Honey Badger. It is a different colour, it looks different, it sounds different, it has a different personality, it is a different animal that lives on a different continent. . The app is nothing other than a deception - don't waste your money on it...

5.0 out of 5 stars Tall Stories - Biography of Andy Jackson by Ronald Cameron, 30 Oct. 2011
I first got to know of this book, when I saw it on a bookshelf in Ronald Cameron's holiday cottage in Banavie in north-west Scotland. At first sight, it looked like a good book about an adventure sports enthusiast; and it seemed like a decent way to pass the dark evenings in what is increasingly seen as Scotland's premier adventure sports centres (Fort William).
A few pages into the book you quickly become gripped reading about the too short life of the very tall Andy Jackson (AJ). AJ started out as a normal kid, doing the normal things that most boys would do (building dens, having fun and trying any and every new sport). Ronald Cameron skilfully selects, sources and writes a variety of articles about AJ to tell the story of his remarkable life and how he developed into a world-class kayaker, legendary Scottish adventurer and inspirational friend. There were many times as I read through the book; that I just had to read passages and quotations by or about AJ to my family; and they all agreed that he must have been a great guy to have spent time with and be inspired by.
There is huge sadness towards the end of the book as it becomes obvious that AJ has poor health. Even now, several years after his untimely death; it is obvious that AJ is greatly missed by many of the people who were close to him.
Importantly though, this book is not just for the friends who knew him through the kayak/canoe scene, but for all the others who met him and for the very many other people who wished they had. No-one should need a kick up the rear end to do something with their lives, but this book should help inspire any-one to think about what they want to do, set some goals and just damn well get out there are do their thing. If this excellent biography of Andy Jackson proves anything it is that we only have relatively little time to do the adventurous things in our lives.
It is an excellent book about a highly inspiring man. It should be compulsory reading for any-one who is not yet blessed with the word "adventurer" in their blood.

Mammals of Britain and Europe (Collins Field Guide)
Mammals of Britain and Europe (Collins Field Guide)
by David MacDonald

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for home, school or college, 16 Oct. 2006
This is a superb book written by David MacDonald. Professor MacDonald is in charge of the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit at Oxford University, and has published very many scientific papers concerned with many mammal species. This book reflects his immense knowledge and experience, but in an interesting and readable form. Included in the book are all the mammals which any-one is likely to see in Great Britain and Europe, as well as useful information about how and where they live.

All this in a hardback format which can be used as a proper field guide. And at a fabulous value for money price - especially when you consider all the information contained in the book. If you are at all interested in mammals, buy a copy for your-self; and a second copy for the school library too. Brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars The richest man who provided for the world!, 22 Sept. 2006
I only bought this book because Amazon recommended it to me. I didn't really think it would be all that interesting and the massive number of pages meant it would be a daunting read.

It is actually an amazing account of the life and time of John D Rockefeller and his close family. The deals done and the plans laid meant that he became the richest man every to have walked the earth - being worth (in modern money) the combined worth of Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and Mr WalMart three times over.

The book itself explains about his methods in business and how the combination of his intellect, planning and attention to detail lead to his immense wealth.

Towards the end of his business career, the book shows how the breakup of his company (Standard Oil) became inevitable; but lead to his wealth increasing every more quickly after he retired from running the business.

Thereafter the book charts his gentle retirement, setting up the University of Chicago, medical foundations in New York and the deep south, national parks, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and countless other world-class institutions.

The sadness of the death of his wife and his own death some years later, is tempered by the knowledge that he used his wealth to provide more of a benefit to mankind than any other human being.

This book is a truly amazing read and Ron Charnow was rightly awarded huge acclaim for the work he did.

Buy the book and read it for yourself - you won't regret it!

Microsoft® Office FrontPage® 2003 Inside Out (Bpg-Inside Out) Front Page
Microsoft® Office FrontPage® 2003 Inside Out (Bpg-Inside Out) Front Page

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb book!, 26 April 2005
Superb book which tells you all about how to use FrontPage 2003. Written by one of Microsoft's most valuable professionals, the book provides an in depth explanation of the FrontPage 2003 software and is packed with hints and tips on how to get the best from the software.
Despite being a Microsoft author, Jim Buyens provides an honest assessment of where the tools provided by FrontPage are very good and well worth using; and, importantly, where those tools are less than good and best avoided.
Overall, this book (and its companion CD-ROM) are very useful, and I would highly recommend them to anyone starting with or moving to Microsoft FrontPage 2003.

5.0 out of 5 stars A superb little gem of a photography book, 26 April 2004
David Goldblatt ought to be much better known for his photographic workthan he currently is. In the great tradition of documentary/socialphotographers, David Goldblatt provides a series of emotionally arrestingimages, which do a great deal to expose the unfairness and the humancruelty which were part of South Africa's apartheid system.
The imagesought to be seen by a wide variety of people - from the young to the old.The images, whilst having the power engage your emotions, are actually anunderstated criticism of the abuse of the "old" Afrikaanermentality.
Overall, this is a great, affordable book; which, in myopinion, is one of the better ones in the set of "Phaidon 55's".
Go on, buy the book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Forget the critics!, 13 Oct. 2003
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Maverick [DVD] [1994] (DVD)
The film is a truly funny magical comic masterpiece. The two male leads offer some great scenes, but the very best performance by far is that of Oscar-winning actress Jodie Foster in the role of Mrs Annabelle Bransford. In this role she really shows that as well as her serious acting skills, she has near-perfect comedic timing.
The picture quality on the DVD version is excellent; as is the sound.

Badgers (British Natural History Series)
Badgers (British Natural History Series)

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely educational book about Badgers, 25 Sept. 2000
We bought this book, knowing nothing about it, and were pleasantly surprised. Obviously written by a badger-expert, the book covers badgers, their lifestyle and environment in good detail, but remains a very accessible read. As an educational work, we would have thought it suitable for any-one from about 10-years upwards, though it is equally well readable by adults without being condescending. It also includes many well-drawn illustrations. Overall Michael Clark's affection for the animals shines through, and we are glad to recommend this book.
