Short stories are not a genre II would usually choose, but I did enjoy this interesting and varied collection. There are stories in this book that would resonate with everyone. The author’s clever perception of characters brings the stories to life. I particularly enjoyed 'Fallen from Grace' and 'Hubert & Hector.' 'A Trip Down Memory Lane' was touching and evocative. 'Lost in Translation' is a classic example of a husband not listening to his wife! How many times have we heard this complaint? Several stories left me wanting more, for example – 'Coyotes.' The stories could have continued for a bit longer, but perhaps that’s just me. I wish the author every success and recommend Impromptu Scribe as an easy to read, dip into book, and I suspect there is a wealth of stories yet to be written

Survival of the Fittest (Psychological Thriller): Do you have the will to survive?
Survival of the Fittest (Psychological Thriller): Do you have the will to survive?
Price: £1.97

3.0 out of 5 stars Needed a bit more 'thrill!', 3 Nov 2014
As a child, Gillian loses her sight in a tragic accident, which kills her father. She eventually manages to escape from the clutches of her overprotective mother and now leads a successful and independent life, and kept safe by her seeing-eye dog, Garrett, who accompanies her everywhere.

Alex, a child traumatised and bullied, brought up by an abusive father, grows into a man who hates ‘defects’ as he calls anyone with a disability. He wants to rid the world of them. Gillian becomes his latest target and the story follows his stalking of Gillian and his attacks on her.

Detective Ryesam Bryant is already investigating several similar cases and is put on to Gillian’s case. Gillian manages to escape the clutches of Alex who becomes increasingly agitated as he constantly hears his father’s voice in his head, goading him. He washes his hands compulsively and smashes up his apartment.

The book is a psychological thriller with romance thrown in, as Gillian and Rye fall in love. The impetus of the thriller becomes a bit lost in places due to all the kissing and cuddling by the loved up pair. I understand what the author was trying to convey, but for me, it wasn't as thrilling as it could have been.

This book was kindly gifted to me by the author in return for a review.

Armed and Fabulous (Lexi Graves Mysteries Book 1)
Armed and Fabulous (Lexi Graves Mysteries Book 1)

I am embarrassed to say that this book has been sitting on my Kindle for almost eighteen months! Every time I went to read it, my attention was drawn to something better (not always so as it happens!) and it got pushed to the back of the queue. I have finally got around to reading it and although it is not brilliant, it is funny, entertaining and easy to read.

The story revolves around Lexi, a bored temp working in an Insurance Company. Bored that is until she discovers the body of the vice president – Martin Dean – lying in a pool of blood in his office. She suddenly finds herself recruited by a police task force, working undercover to solve a huge fraud scam, which her boss was somehow involved in. As people around her are killed off, Lexi realises that she has become the murderer’s next target. I guessed about three quarters of the way through who the murderer was, but it was still a good story with lots of twists and turns.

Hotel Apocalypse, The Complete Collection (Episodes 1-16)
Hotel Apocalypse, The Complete Collection (Episodes 1-16)
Price: £5.40

5.0 out of 5 stars Not to be missed!, 20 Sep 2014
This story was first sold in several episodes – 16 in all – but this one, which I have just read is the collection of all 16 episodes in one book. It is not the sort of book I would normally choose, but as it was offered for free, I thought why not give it a go. I am so glad I did, it was a really great read. It is a story of a post-apocalyptical world, where the chosen survivors in the US are tricked into a utopian life in an enormous purpose built tower, constructed by NextGen. The wealthy residents live a life of luxury, their every wish catered for by a workforce called Dentures, who are treated as slaves. One of the Dentures, Leo, who the story revolves around, joins a secret organisation whose plan is to overthrow the evil and corrupt organisation. There are twists and turns galore, leading the reader from one episode to another with mounting excitement. Will they, won’t they overthrow NextGen? It is a long story, but I won’t make this a long review. All I can say is that if you are into apocalyptic books (or even if you are not!), then this is one story well worth reading.

The End Game

5.0 out of 5 stars Revenge comes in many forms!, 13 Sep 2014
This review is from: The End Game (Kindle Edition)
Alexis Williams and Robert Peterson, have been friends for many years. Robert especially harbours the secret hope that one day their relationship will move to a deeper, more loving level. When he discovers that he has won a holiday for two aboard a luxury yacht, he sees it as his opportunity to drag Alexis away from her job and the two of them can spend quality time together. Alexis reluctantly agrees and begins to look forward to their holiday, then she discovers that the owner of the yacht, Bradley Rand, is a major contributor to a charity that is close to her heart. Coincidence or not! I don't want to spoil the plot. I was hooked with the first chapter, and the ending was not quite what I expected it to be. It is well written, and the characters are interesting. Some of the conversations between the characters are a bit deep and maybe go on for too long. There are many references to the ego, which to me infers a great interest by the author in that particular subject, but all-in-all a good read.

This is the first book by this author that I have read. I bought it because it came highly recommended by a friend. The book is partly based in Dorset, which is an area that I know very well. The story jumps backwards and forwards from 1939 in Spain to 2011 in England and introduces different characters along the way and I found it difficult to link it all together. I was not sure where the story was going until about halfway through, then it began to fall into place. The characters were good. The story linked fact and fiction, which I found very interesting, but I was disappointed with the ending.

Kelly Blue: ....and down came a spider.... (Kelly Wynton Private Eye Book 1)
Kelly Blue: ....and down came a spider.... (Kelly Wynton Private Eye Book 1)
Price: £1.81

4.0 out of 5 stars An easy read, 24 Aug 2014
The story opens with a cat burglar nicknamed Spider Man by the press, who has scaled an apartment block and becomes an unfortunate witness to a murder. Enter Kelly Wynton, an ex policeman turned private investigator with Busby Investigations, who has been asked to investigate the disappearance of a schoolgirl. Because of the speed at which Kelly wraps up the case, he is assigned to a surveillance job for a businessman trying to keep tabs on his wife whilst away on business. Another murder takes place. Are they linked? Is Spider Man the murderer? Kelly gets more and more involved and much to his surprise finds love along the way. It is a short but interesting thriller, with far-reaching consequences. There are a few errors, which could easily be put right with another read-through, but overall they didn't spoil my read.

The Demeter Code (An International Spy Thriller) (Ridley Fox/Nita Parris Spy Series Book 3)
The Demeter Code (An International Spy Thriller) (Ridley Fox/Nita Parris Spy Series Book 3)

4.0 out of 5 stars Action Packed from beginning to end, 7 Aug 2014
Another action packed story involving CIA Operatives, Ridley Fox and Dr Nita Parris. The story begins with Dr Parris in a hotel in Washington attempting to move Timothy Weyland into witness protection. Meanwhile Ridley Fox is in France, having taken on the identity of David Conlon, a mercenary. Both Fox and Parris are ably assisted by super hacker Dewan, who keeps in touch with both of them through their earpieces. It becomes a race against time to prevent a catastrophic event, which could wipe out the entire USA. As with Brooks’ previous thriller, Pandora’s Succession, the Demeter Code is again packed with technical detail, and needs to be read in large chunks so as to keep up with the complicated plot. The idea of the story is both clever and terrifying. Brooks has managed to create an excellent thriller, which leaves readers imagining a 'what if it could really happen' scenario. A great deal of research has gone into this book and all credit to the author.
