4.0 out of 5 stars ludicrous but stranglely entertaining!, 19 Jun. 2012

I was dubious about this sequel after reading a couple of scathing reviews but i personally found it very entertaining! True, the characters are pretty shallow and there are a few ridiculous moments but hey, what do you expect? This isn't shawshank redemption where the viewers are supposed to engage in a thoughtful and heartfelt perception of humanity. It is about giant supposedly extinct fish eating half naked people and you get exaxctly what it says on the tin! I loved the first film but felt it was really slow to begin with, like they were trying to build complex character information where there really was none to be found. This film does nothing of the sort. It's full on fish fest from the start - in fact I can't understand people who said there was less fish action as I thought there was a lot more. i preferred the fact that they didn't try to build the characters up too much because it's not what the film is about. we don't watch these types of film to see a true love story or a commentary on life. we watch them for pure cheesy comedy value and gratutitous gore! if you like films like aligator or anaconda then you'll like this too. also i liked "the hoff" in it and thought he played a good parody of his past characters. i admit there were a couple of bizarre and silly deaths at the end where the writers were perhaps drunk and thought it added to the feature (but were sadly misguided) but it's not like it's based on reality so i think it's fair to say you can suspend your disbelief on these points! what i liked most was that it was just as much a comedy as it was a horror - i think this is maybe why some people hated it, because they felt it was an insult to all those kind of "giant animal killer" films. i loved all those old films that took themselves so seriously but i'm old enough now that i can love them and laugh at them too and I think Pirahna 3DD is a tribute to all that! Don't take my word for it though, watch and decide for yourself xx
