4.0 out of 5 stars Pour with care to avoid spills and splashes, 3 Mar. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I think this is a great product. London water tastes much better after being filtered. My one gripe is the pouring spout is not perfect in design. In order to keep the slim styling and avoid old water being trapped the design means that it pours in rather a broad stream which makes it difficult to pour into a small opening without splashing. Further if the lifting cover of the spout does not lift as you pour then it splashes everywhere, so you need to look carefully and lift it before pouring if it seems to be staying put. This is particularly the case when you have a full jug and want to pour a small amount.nnIn other words it takes time to get used to it. This size fits well in to the fridge door if that is what you want

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 10 Jan. 2016

This review is from: Southern Seas (Paperback)
The translation is poor and sloppy so the original may be better. I was misled by other reviews in believing it would be interesting. I know in the period after escaping from the era of Franco's political and social repression writers will have a reaction but reading it now so many years later it is not interesting. Its politics seems on a parochial level and does not excite any sympathy or interest. The mystery is not very mysterious. It does have a good beginning but does not follow through.

The Dorling Kindersley Children's Illustrated Dictionary

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, wide-ranging vocabulary, well-illustrated, 12 Aug. 2014

This is excellent. I can't guess what improvements were wanted for a later edition except perhaps an electronic version. A large wide ranging vocabulary. Good illustrations. Links to grammatical points. I am an adult so perhaps it does not fit in with the curriculum.

5.0 out of 5 stars Elegant and Simple, 12 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Elegant and Simple functional design. Still quite new but looks as if it will wear well. For those of us who make notes from a Kindle book there is a little pen holder and enough room to tuck a small notebook into space when fastened. I think I will enjoy this for a long time. A replacement for a non leather cover which got scuffed and looked scruffy. Now I am happy to flash this around on the tube.

3.0 out of 5 stars Amusing but a little repetitive, 29 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Mildly disappointing. The author writes with verve and humour but it is quite repetitious in its themes through the chapters. It is much more written for her contemporaries with similar experiences. Growing up in England many communities have or had these suffocating family experiences but they were not shared with the mixed social life at school and work. However, the specific details of Greek habits is interesting and amusingly recounted. While all Greek men in the modern world are probably not like this but it may serve as a counter-balance to an overly romantic concept of living with a Greek man and his family. The author should continue to write but work with an editor.

To summarise, read it, it is amusing but a little repetitive,

3.0 out of 5 stars Very human story, 23 Jun. 2014

I couldn't stop reading this book, it has the charm of a personal narrative. One just wants to know if the dream worked. However the writing is not very fluent and there are a lot of typos.

The Oxford Paperback Greek Dictionary
The Oxford Paperback Greek Dictionary

Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful pocket dictionary, 23 Jun. 2014

I like this dictionary and this was a replacement copy for my previous copy which was damaged. This needs updating now but what I like are the examples of usage and Niki Watts differentiates between the American and English usage as necessary. For the size and weight, which make it portable I find the coverage very good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Clean up even if its a job you hate, 23 Jun. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Short and sweet. Like all good advice it may seem obvious but it works. This is the price of a magazine which might have a useful article but this is much more substantial than such articles. Although reading it made me feel breathless at the speed of achieving these tasks, I know that soaking, read for more detail on this technique, and vinegar are effective. It is good advice for those who hate cleaning and spend twice the time thinking about doing it than actually getting on with it. My own tip. Burnt saucepan: soak overnight but add a good dollop of white spirit vinegar and tackle the next day, the burn floats off and the surface of your saucepan is not damaged.

3.0 out of 5 stars May not suit everyone, 4 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
My rating of 3 stars is a personal evaluation, this is more because I could not follow this diet for two weeks. As someone who is over 60 this extreme approach is not healthy, a slower approach which takes account of keeping one's blood sugar even is more suitable. However, I liked the summarised form of the science of nutrition and know I can check out the full details in the author's other books. I liked the background to the successful aspects of extreme dieting, which you can read in part in the amazon extract. So a plus point is that it is so positive and encouraging. When I looked at the recipes they didn't sound very appetising but I have now tried a few and they demonstrate the principles of this type of eating well and tasted fine. My one quibble is that the measure for nuts as a snack is a bit vague and not helpful. In a basic Kindle it is a bit slow to find recipes let alone some aspect of the book you want to review. I chose Kindle for the speed of delivery and the price. Last the recipes are designed for one or two and many products are not easily purchased in such small quantities but the ones I tried froze well and were still fine when reheated.
