5.0 out of 5 stars So much fun., 18 Jan. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I am very fit and have two other DVDs from 'The Firm' which I also love so I was looking forward to this one. Like the others, this DVD is hard work but alot of fun, your whole body get's a thorough work out. I actually had no problem with Keslie's direction, her intructions were clear and I could easily follow the routine, for absolute beginners I would suggest you sit down and just watch the whole DVD first then when you are ready to 'do' the workout you have an idea of what is coming up, if you already work out and know grapevines, box steps and leg curls you will be ok with this. I have done this DVD 6 times now and it gets easier and easier. This workout is not boring, there is so much going on, so many different body parts are working at the same time you won't realise how fast you get through it, it is alot of fun, the only negative I could find is that a couple of the music tracks weren't that great but I loved everything else, I will definately buy another DVD from The firm, they are so reliable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad but does get boring., 6 Nov. 2010
First of all I'd like to say that I exercise alot, I don't do it for losing weight but to stay fit. I have been using this DVD 6 times now alternating between Billy Blanks, Davina power of Three, Natalie Cassidy and The Firm.

I love Jillian Michaels, she knows her stuff and she doesn't mess around, she means business and if you want to lose fat, you will do it with this DVD no problem.

These circuits are great for people who can't follow a sequence of moves very well, the exercises here are done one by one so there are no complicated choregraphy to follow and you can follow each exercise easily but the circuits don't get harder throughout. Circuit 5 is the easiest then circuit 1, 2, 7, 3,4,then 6 is the hardest, I actually skip circuit 5 as it does nothing for me. Also after you've done this DVD for a while, it can get a bit boring as the exercises are not as fun as in some exercise DVD's, doing one exercise at a time is great but you don't want to do it over and over again day after day, Jillian likes to talk throughout so you don't get great pumping music which would actually be more helpful and break the boredom. I like this DVD but it's not my favourite, after you have done it a few times, it gets easier, you sweat less, you need less water and breathe easier, it doesn't take long to get used to it. Beginners would benefit the most I think.

Death at Pompeia's Wedding (Libertus Mystery of Roman Britain)
Death at Pompeia's Wedding (Libertus Mystery of Roman Britain)

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing., 6 Nov. 2010
I love these Roman mysteries and have read all the other books and loved every one of them but I found this one a little disappointing, it is not up to Rosemary Rowe's usual high standard. I think the main reason for this is because not alot happens, there is an awful lot of talking in this book and not enough action.

Libertus attends a wedding and spends a long time talking to the slave at the door before he even gets in, the death happens and Libertus again spends alot of time just talking to the relatives of the deceased before taking a short journey to see a guest from the wedding Redux, who he spends more time talking to, I was so bored I actually skipped a few pages here, then both of them nearly get arrested and spend alot of time again talking to the Commander before finally going back to the scene of the crime and talking yet again to everybody who was present at the wedding and uncovering the murderer.

There is too much standing around talking, it's boring. Rosemary Rowe can do better than this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible, 27 May 2010
Comedy at it't best, the fun hasn't dated at all. The only thing that has dated is the fashion but I love it as I grew up watching this show as a girl and really envied Denise's style, the 80's were the best.

Sometimes it can be a little gushlingly sweet especially if you watch too many episodes back to back but to be honest, with all the violence and sex and rubbish on TV at the moment, it's a real pleasure to watch this.

All the kids face all kinds of problems growing up from first loves and crushes to first cars and learning responsiblity and independence, the parents Clair and Cliff discipline, punish, encourage, teach and nurture their children in their own unique style, no shouting, smacking or out of control situations here just alot of patience, love and understanding.

The comedy is first class with some brilliant turns from Bill Cosby, he delivers some killer lines with a dead pan face and you know that everyone on the show has had a great time making it. The chemistry between Clair and Cliff is great to watch and they surely must make the best parents in the whole world. My 9 year old loves it and wants all the other series. It is great for all ages, everyone will love it, will make a fantastic present.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad but a little chaotic., 27 May 2010
Having decided to keep her quilt shop, Dewey sets about modernising the shop while taking quilting lessons and generally learning all there is to know about quilting. Things however do not run smoothly for her when her jealous sister law who works in the shop sets out to sabotage her business and to cause as much trouble for Dewey as possible. Two elderly friends who work in the shops classrooms fall out over a guy, Dewey finds a dead body in her car park and there's a big bag of money she needs to keep her eye on.

Dewey should really just concentrate on the shop and the problems caused by her sister in law but ends up sticking her nose in all kinds of situations. There is alot happening in this book and sometimes Dewey doesn't seem to be doing anything at all but running about worrying but I did enjoy it better than Terri Thayer's first novel although I still wish the romantic scenes between Dewey and her new boyfriend Buster were cut, it doesn't fit in somehow.

It is a little hectic and unfocused at times as so many things are happening at once, but it's a very easy read, you do end up cheering Dewey on and booing her horrible sister in law.

3.0 out of 5 stars Predictable, 22 May 2010
This is an easy read, perfect for Sunday afternoons but it isn't the best of it's genre.

Unfortunately you can work out the murderer almost as soon as it happens. Terri Thayer has forgotten that a murderer usually has motive and it doesn't make sense for someone with no motive to be suspected and dealt with in such a heavy handed way. This really lets the story down as does the sex scenes or should I say the hot and heavy scenes which didn't fit in with the overall feel of the book, it's enough to have such grisly murders happening in the quiet and genteel world of quilting but Terri Thayer has to throw in sex too. It doesn't need to be there.

Although Dewey has just inherited her Mothers quilting shop, she doesn't know the first thing about quilting though I'm sure she will end up having a natural talent for it like Rosemary Rowe's roman mosaic pavement maker Libertus has for solving mysteries and murders, being used to puzzles, patterns and putting the pieces together etc mosaic maker and quilt maker are alot alike.

I have read Terri Thayer's second and third book and they are both better than this one, so maybe Thayer will make a worthy rival of Rosemary Rowe one day but I doubt it. This is a very easy going book, it ambles along, there is no tension, no exciting climax no shocking revelations, don't expect too much and you might like it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast but boring., 15 April 2010
I exercise alot, 5 or 6 days a week, yoga, weights, floor work and aerobic dvd's so I am very fit and enjoy working out.

Jillian knows her stuff and some of the strength exercises are really good. The cardio is a bit boring, not fun like The Firm's cardio, it is military style so you will do 30 seconds of jumping jacks then 30 seconds of jump rope then back to the jacks and then jump rope. As the cadio only lasts 2 minutes it is bearable however I find that alot of the cardio moves are performed slower than in other aerobic dvd's which is odd and I find myself going faster than they do.

Because you move from strength to cardio to abs so quickly, the whole 20 minutes goes by really quickly and I am not that worn out by one level alone. I usually do all three levels or choose one level and then do another dvd like The Firm's maximum calorie burn.

I do not ache afterwards like some reviewers seem to do but then I am used to exercise. If you are used to all the squats and lunges done in Nell McAndrews and Natalie Cassidy dvd's, the ones here are a doddle, if you can do the arm workout with 2 pound weights from Nell McAndrew, you will be able to perform the strength workouts no problem. This is probably a great weight loss dvd but not the best general exercise dvd as it is a little boring.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as her others, 25 Feb. 2010
This review is from: U is for Undertow (Hardcover)
I usually love Sue's books and while this one was ok. It was just OK. There is no real suspense or drama, no nail biting climax and no surprises here. There are too many co-incidences happening after the 21 years after the crime and I get fustrated by Sue's descriptions of everything, she never used to be like this.

Every single person has to have a full in depth back ground description has to be physically described, every room she enters has to be described down to the carpet pattern. She can't just pull into a car park, she has to indicate left, push the button and wait for a timed ticket etc etc it's a bit too much and I sometimes wish she would just get on with the story. I've read lots of books that don't need that kind of description everywhere.

The story was a little dull, not alot happens and I'm not that fussed about Kinsey's family drama's actually either so I was a little disappointed with this book but I've loved some of her earlier stuff so never mind. I hope the next one will be better.

3.0 out of 5 stars No Surprises but nice heart warming story., 5 Jan. 2010
You know exactly what is going to happen by reading the back of the book so there are strictly no surprises anywhere, it's formulaic in the extreme but it still remains a nice heart warming story if not the best of it's genre.

The trouble is there are so many of the same hard luck stories that you've read it all before in one book or another.

The actual tale is a grim reminder of how hard the Northerners had it during the great depression and the poverty everyone had to suffer, the characters are very likeable, very lifelike and their personal stories heart breaking in places but as I've said before you know exactly how everything is going to pan out.

Rita does a good job and it's a good tale but the story has been done so often you might get a little bored nearer the end.

3.0 out of 5 stars Anticlimatic., 5 Jan. 2010
Well, this story gets off to a promising start and I was really looking forward to a gripping murder mystery but I was sadly disappointed. The history is amazing, but the story telling is a little weak. You know who the culprits are as soon as they are introduced so even though Doherty tries hard to build mystery and suspense it's all a bit anticlimatic in the end. It's a good quick read if you've got nothing else to do but don't expect too much.
