5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent debut album, 15 April 2014
Impressive song writing and performances from a relatively new Irish band. In Slow Motion and 1995 are the stand-out tracks for me. The Misanthropy EP was very good, Morning Run Evening Sun is excellent.

1.0 out of 5 stars Auto sleep problem is a big problem, 13 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Like many others, I've had an awful time trying to get around the auto-sleep problem. See the problem discussed on the Toshiba forums.
After months of hacks and fixes that didn't work properly I've thrown in the towel and requested a return from Amazon. As usual Amazon Customer Support has been excellent and despite the drive being outside the return window they promptly issued me with a returns label. I've purchased a WD My Book 3 TB USB 3.0 Hard Drive and in the process of moving my data from the Toshiba to this before I return the Toshiba. The WD is far faster than the Toshiba. I'm amazed at the speed difference, which makes me wonder if the Toshiba is failing.

I'd advise to avoid buying this until Toshiba can issue a firmware upgrade - something they don't look like doing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still very poor images underwater - update - this has been adressed, 8 Feb 2012
As per the Go Pro website; "Please note that due to the curved lens of the HD HERO2 (and the original HD HERO) waterproof housing you will notice a slight loss of sharpness with underwater images."

"slight loss of sharpness" is an understatement. Despite thousands of requests by users of the older version Go Pro still haven't fixed the problem with the case which means underwater images are awful. Avoid is you're looking to use for diving or snorkeling until the problem is fixed or they supply an alternative case. There are 3rd party lenses that you can buy to replace the lens but it will invalidate your warranty, can be difficult to fit, etc...

I've updated my rating of the camera to 4 stars because it works well with the new optional case. Jan 2014

1.0 out of 5 stars The ghost of Bernard Manning..., 31 July 2009
This review is from: Frankie Boyle: Live [DVD] (DVD)
The ghost of Bernard Manning is alive and well in Frankie Boyle! Ok that's probably a bit of an exaggeration but while watching this DVD I actually felt a bit embarrassed for Frankie. His effort to outdo himself with the "shock factor" meant that any comedy value was quickly lost in what is actually quite a poor performance. His constant tirade against the audience members becomes tiresome very quickly. As a result the crowd didn't warm to him at all. Frankie should go and watch Dara Ó Briain play live to see how to engage and entertain an audience. Dara's playful banter is a shining example of how to include the audience in your routine and make it fun.

I think that the root cause of Frankie's problem here is that he's not a great stand-up comedian. He's fine in a controlled studio environment where his pre-scripted gags work a lot better. But when he has an hour in front of an audience to fill he resorts to the lazy comedian's trick of swearing constantly and sticking to a rigid pattern.

Again I would compare his delivery to Dara Ó Briain - Dara's storytelling and participation with the audience sometimes includes swearing but it's used as a creative aid to the story rather than to shock or pad out the routine. Frankie on the other hand sounds like he's trying to impress 14 year old chavs on a street corner with a game of "how low can you go".

I'd recommend renting rather than buying this as you'll never watch it more than once.

5.0 out of 5 stars Which one?, 12 Aug 2007
The Acer website has two configurations listed for this model:

LX.AGS0X.015 - Which has 1GB Turbomemory but no Bluetooth listed.

LX.AGW0X.169 - Which has Bluetooth but no 1GB Turbomemory listed.

I can't see why they can't offer a model that has both.

It appears that it's the LX.AGS0X.015 model with the 1GB Turbomemory that Amazon are selling.

4.0 out of 5 stars All that I hoped they'd left behind., 3 Nov 2000
A return to their roots? I don't think it's as drastic as that. It's certainly not as bad as War but as a follow up to the hugely under rated Pop it is a disappointment.
What! You didn't like Pop? MOFO, Gone, Please, Staring at the Sun, to name but four easily wipe the floor with any track on ATYCLB.
I really, really wanted to love this album. The very fact that each (previous) album was something new and that they were pushing themselves musically is one of the reasons that I have listened to U2 for so long. This album is not a progression. It's not dangerous or exciting or risky - all the things that U2 had been during the nineties. Perhaps I'm too greedy in expecting it to continue?
Have they run out of ideas? Are they getting too old? Maybe this is their hangover after the extremes of the nineties - Achtung Baby, Zooropa, Pop and 3 huge tours? It was a hell of a party after all.
The only saving grace is that I felt the same way about Achtung Baby, Zooropa and Pop but they all got much better with time. Hence I give it 4 stars in the hope that it will be worthy of it in a few months time - at the moment it's struggling to reach 3 stars.
I was at the Point that fateful night - 31st December 1989 - when Bono said they were to "go away and ... dream it all up again". Maybe it's time to start dreaming again?
