5.0 out of 5 stars A wire is a wire !!!, 27 Jun 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a great bargain an audio wire that does a great job in every was,its well packed with very fine copper strands is flexible but most of all it sounds just great in my £3000 system so why buy expensive rip off wire when this does such a fine job for almost nothing paired with a very good quality cd to amp interconnect it produces great sound that will satisfy everyone except those believers who prefer esoteric speaker cable that can cost an arm and a leg only to produce sound that is NO better than this.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for me !, 2 Jun 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this being a bit adventurous and based on the reviews from across the pond
but I did not like it at all on any level. It lacks what I was hoping for vivid orchestration and perhaps fun from the three Greek dances I am sad to report I could
not wait for the end I will persevere one never knows perhaps repeated playing will shed light on what I am missing out on.I have found Portuguese composers Fraitas Branco and Joly Braga Santos give me exactly what I was expecting from Kalomiris but not coming anywhere near.Perhaps Khatchaturian ot Ippolitov Ivanov are nearer what I was hoping for from this CD.So on summary I beg to differ from the other reviews.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gounod Faust, 19 July 2010
This review is from: Gounod: Faust (Audio CD)
This is a CD to treasure and how lucky we are that CD recordings capture performances of this magnitude.I feel that no cast today could come anywhere near this production.La Stupenda in full flight is awesome,Corelli with his strong lachrymose voice is splendid.Just play the last track preferably loud and you will experience the tingle factor its electric. The orchestra is superb under the skilfull direction of Maestro Bonynge.Worth its weight in Gold-----NO in Platinum !

4.0 out of 5 stars Magical Franco Corelli, 20 April 2008
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Perhaps one can get rather blinkered and fall in love with the version of Andrea Chenier that you have in your collection.Perhaps I will admit that Stella is not the best soprano the world has ever heard, perhaps the sonics are not quite up to todays standards of ultimate hifi, perhaps Franco gives too much to the drama well who cares this production pulls out all the stops for drama and high octane singing, you will never hear a greater tenor in our lifetime that I can assure you.The finale even after years of listening will give you that spine tingle of hearing great singing at its historical peak.If it cost ten times this amount to buy it would still be a bargain ,its sheer electric and magic in its total involvement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kitch and FUN, 5 April 2008
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have read a review of this ballet from an 'eminent' ballet critic who was scathing about it well he did miss the point of it it is an anachronism a relic of past times but PLEASE buy this video as it great fun with some very good music and a superb cast of dancers.Roberto Bolle does what he does best strutting his stuff and looking athletic [wish I could move like that]Orchestra and sound are excellent as is the video quality. If you like very modern 'minimalist' ballet then this is pure poison but for the rest of us lets enjoy it as there is so much in it to delight.

5.0 out of 5 stars The definitive Sylvia, 29 Dec 2007
I have waiting for ages for this ballet production to appear on DVD after watching it on BBC2 several years ago and now its available. Its a wonderful production the dancers are superb not only the 'star' roles Bussel/Bolle but the entire cast, the orchestra of the Royal Ballet, the sets, costumes, lighting sound etc,and of course the Delibe score enchanting. This is a must have for any ballet fan and could convert the sceptical !So often DVD production are not of the best quality but this is super,go buy it you wont be let down in any way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sylvia and Coppelia great form from Mercury !, 30 May 2004
This review is from: Coppelia / Sylvia (Audio CD)
Mercury recordings date from the late fifties to late sixties but dont let that put you off the recordings and performances are exhilerating.Anatole Fistoulari may be unfamiliar but he had a great talent and the LSO respond very well in Sylvia.Antal Dorati and his Minneaplois Orchestra do a great job in the Coppelia ballet suite. The more restful movements are suitably languid and the fast movements have a precision that is the greatest of fun whether dancers could perform at such a pace is academic. The Dorati items are perhaps better recorded than the Fistoulari pieces.I wish I was in such fine fettle after forty odd years.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fitting Requiem for Bernstein, 28 May 2004
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Verdi: Messa da Requiem (Audio CD)
The original CD has now been deleted but this reissue is almost half the price of the original so cant complain. This is a fantastic production on every level.Four superb and individualistic soloists, the LSO in fine fettle and the conducting talent of an inspired Bernstein, added to that is the superb acoustics very ably recorded too.Its a shatteringly great performance and not to me missed at this super bargain price.
