2.0 out of 5 stars BAD body fat monitor, 23 July 2012
These scales seem a great invention when you link it with the iPhone app or the internet software.

However i have been using these all year and comparing them to the Tanita segmental scales at my gym, and thats where the problems start to show!

The Withings measurement of body fat can vary 2 or 3% just by using a few times in a row - so thats a bad start!

However, equally annoying is that these scales were failing to give an accurate trend of body fat reduction when compared to the Tanita scales. The Tanita scales recorded a 4% bf reduction, Withings scales recorded none! The possible reason for this is that the Tanita scales also use hand held electrodes for upper body measurements, much more accurate.

So in summary, these scales do look the part, but give them a proper test, take a few readings and then judge. These are expensive scales - they don't deliver.

Its true you get what you pay for.

I wasnt expecting much, but that was still a let down.

The piece of card to be used to scrape out any bubbles on the screen, scratches the film!

The paper tab to removed after the film is placed only partly came off and left behind all its glue residue, which wouldnt then wash off. Dont plan on using hot soapy water to wash it off whilst the film is on an ipad!

Also the fit of it is seriously wanting, its ok at the sides, but there is a gap left along the bottom (this is after using the home button and the camera hole to align it correctly).

I can see now why Zagg films are so expensive.

Item is being returned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mosquito Repellent that works!, 20 Feb. 2011
Just to add to the other reviews, this stuff is an excellent mosquito repellant.

I have used DEET repellants in the past and they never work for me, i always get an armful of mossie bites.

I used this stuff for 2 weeks in Thailand and Malaysia and all i can say is that it really, really works! It smells ok too (unlike DEET).

One bottle will last one person 2 weeks (sprayed on arms n legs twice a day).

5.0 out of 5 stars Coffee at home without comprise on taste, 12 May 2010
Finally, a great cup of coffee at home! I had tried BOTH the Braun and Bosch Tassimo machines and was disappointed with all the coffee varieties on offer (too bitter and burnt, not much variation in taste between the varieties, and nasty UHT milk pods). So i checked the Which review for this product (3rd best coffee machine after the proper Gaggia's) and took the plunge (again). I am so pleased i did, the espresso from this is excellent and just as important (for making cappuccino and latte) the milk frother is an absolute marvel - so easy to use and perfect results. The frother also makes a nice cup of hot chocolate, and i read you can use it to make a chai latte also.

The build quality is excellent, its quite heavy for such a small piece of kit and it all feels solid and not flimsy.

The coffee pods can only be ordered online. Its not a big deal, ordered on the Monday and they arrived on Tuesday, delivered by Fed Ex!

The coffee pods make great coffee, the Ristretto makes a VERY strong espresso but there are lots of variations on flavour and strength available.

If you are debating a coffee pod machine, then i recommend this one (or perhaps any Nespresso machine) it delivers a coffee shop quality drink. It is more expensive than those other pod/capsule machines but you really do get what you pay.

Update: After a few months of using this its still going great. Running out of coffee pods is a great excuse to buy a different variety, the quality of the coffee is excellent, there is no comprise for having this in your own kitchen. The problem now is i seldom go out to the coffee chains, or when i do i realise how bad the coffee is they make.

1.0 out of 5 stars Small cup of bitter coffee, 7 May 2010
Firstly, go to a department store and try the coffee before you consider buying a Tassimo - dont base your purchase on the reviews on here.

I have been using this machine for about 6 weeks off and on and in conclusion it makes a nice hot chocolate (the Milka one not the Suchard one). However the coffees are very poor - i have tried about 6 different varieties and they dont taste all that different from each other and all taste too bitter and slightly burned. Instant coffee tastes better than this.

Bear in mind that this will make you a cup of black coffee, so add your own milk (which you should really warm up first, so thats the convenience gone).

The lattes and cappuccinos are made with a UHT milk disc - the milk has a strange buttery/caramel taste and ruins the flavour. They do look good though.

Oh yeah, the cup size is miserly, this is due to how much coffee you can fit into the disc, you can add more water but then it dilutes the flavour.

I was very confused by my thoughts on this, given all the great reviews on here for it. So i checked the Which?? review - its nice to see they agreed with my comments and awarded it only 55%. Also go see how many of these are for sale on Ebay - loads of them, if they were so good then why sell?!

I will be replacing this with the Magimix Nespresso which gets consistently great reviews and for which i can make a cappuccino with proper fresh milk. Also have a look at the Lavazza Mio, also gets good reviews although still very new so yet to see how well it does (and how long the pods will be available for).
