5.0 out of 5 stars Superb! Worth the very long wait., 30 Sep 2011
This is possibly the best of a superb series. Unlike the Series 1 DVD which suffers from poor audio quality, this DVD has great audio and the video quality is as good as you could expect.

For me, the mix of artists is great, and I think the higher proportion of vocal tracks in this series is one reason why this series shines. There's a great blend of Scottish and Irish folk and Country in this series with the added bonus of Michael Doucet's Cajun contributions. It's hard to pinpoint what the best tracks are - there are just so many great performances from brilliant artists.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but could have been better, 22 July 2011
CDs 1 and 2 have plenty of good material, and while a lot of people will have many of these tracks already there will likely be a number of tracks that the average listener doesn't have. A couple of the tracks, like Free Bird, have been shortened it must be noted.

Some reviewers have commented on the fact that only CD 3 contains material actually from OGWT. IMHO, this CD is the weakest in the collection, with little of interest and somehow I can't see people who enjoy the material on CD 1 and 2 enjoying CD3.

All in all, I think this collection is just about worth buying for this price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Selection of Burns Songs from Leading Scottish Folk Songstress, 8 Feb 2011
This review is from: Adoon Winding Nith (Audio CD)
This is the 4th album from award-winning Scottish folk singer Emily Smith. It's an album of songs written by Robert Burns, and so the album works well both as an introduction to the beautiful singing of Emily and the fine songwriting of Burns. Of course, the lyrics are written in the 18th century Scots tongue that Burns used, but a helpful glossary is included in the CD sleevenotes for those unfamiliar with the dialect!

On the album, equal billing is given to Emily's husband and musical collaborator, Jamie McLennan.

Stand out tracks:

Silver Tassie (also featured in the Transatlantic Sessions 4 TV series)
Gowden Locks O' Anna
The Plooman
A Man's A Man for A That

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, readable introduction to Wikis, 25 Feb 2010
This review is from: Wikis For Dummies (Paperback)
I enjoyed reading this book; it's clear and well written, as you might expect from a title in the "Dummies" range. You won't need to read all of the book, particularly if you're not going to build your own Wiki, but it does provide a good overview of how and why Wikis are used.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very poor material - does not do the ISB justice, 20 July 2009
Stuff like this should never be released. Disk one consists of mainly accoustic demos with truly dreadful off-tune vocals. The second, live, disk doesn't sound an awful lot better. Presumably there is a market amongst die-hard fans/avid completists, but IMHO, releasing this kind of material doesn't do the reputation of the band any good at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good comprehensive guide to iPod and iTunes, 17 Mar 2009
This is a good, well-written pocket guide to the iPod and iTunes that covers all models of iPods (iPod Touch and the "traditional" iPods), so you won't find the entire book relevant. As an iPod Touch owner however, I did find the coverage of that model pretty comprehensive nevertheless.

The chapters on the iTunes Store, iTunes Wi-Fi and Apps Stores, are good and there are some nice tips on usage.

I would have liked to see some more troubleshooting information, particularly on setting up the Wifi connection, which can be a real pain.

Overall, this book is a good buy, particularly for iPod Touch users.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good introduction to the technical writing profession, 3 Mar 2009
This book is a good, easy-to-read introduction to the technical writing profession. It summarizes well what the job is all about, and gives useful tips on establishing a writing portfolio and building a professional network.

The book was written in happier times when the market was in much better shape, and jobs were much easier to come by. Nevertheless, aspiring technical writers should find this book helpful, as long as they are aware of the current difficulty of breaking into technical writing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great music and performances, rather let down by poor DVD quality, 26 Feb 2009
I have to agree with other reviewers that the picture quality on this DVD is grainy, and the sound mix is far too low. For these reasons, I rate the DVD as 4 star rather than 5 star (pity there isn't a 4.5) The music and performances are excellent though. I can't wait for Volume 2!
