Moose Knitted Nepal Animal Hat
Moose Knitted Nepal Animal Hat

5.0 out of 5 stars This is... quite simply... an amazing hat, 7 Jan. 2014

I bought this as a gift for a friend of mine for Christmas. My train of thought while searching for gift ideas was something along the lines of "I need something quirky and fun, but something that is useful enough to not be thrown away the next day with all the cardboard and wrapping paper".

As you can clearly see, this charming piece of headgear ticks all the boxes.

It looks great in person, and unlike some other novelty hats doesn't lose it's shape or contours within minutes of breaking out of the box. As it was for a friend I can't comment on how effective it is at insulating against the cold but the material is quite thick and looks like it could withstand dropping temperatures.

The design of the moose is pitched perfectly, giving an impression of aloof nonchalance rarely found in scalp-warmers. Having trouble turning that frown around? Now you don't have to, the moose carries the burden of your despair and everyone will still think you're the bees knees.

The first thing to note about this iron is that it it's a real steam engine. Fantastic for getting out creases but make sure you've considered ventilation if you're ironing in a small space, otherwise you'll soon find yourself ironing in a sauna. A full tank will deplete in around 30 mins of solid ironing.

The Anodilium (a posh word for 'Anodised Aluminium') soleplate is both attractive, a good shape/size and glides freely over fabric. The forward point is not the narrowest, but still manages to get into those gaps between shirt buttons.

Other reviewers have commented on the weight of the iron being on the heavy side, and that is true but I haven't yet felt fatigue while using it, and I've slugged through a couple of 60 min sessions already (thanks to putting off ironing due to obvious reasons). I find the weight is actually reassuring, giving it a solid and properly constructed feel.

Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. It's a bit on the pricey side of the iron world but for the money you get the steam equivalent of David Attenborough, surprisingly exciting considering the subject matter.

Since the end of the meta album, the last of which being Octavarium, there's been something missing in their musical construction. In my opinion this release is a better album than their last (A Dramatic Turn Of Events) but it's still not quite up to the standard they were at during the beginning of the millennium. Mike Mangini seems to be a good fit as a replacement for Mike Portnoy, the drums are still funky, syncopated and deeply technical. Overall the group still perform as we've come to expect but there still lacks that secret ingredient, that inspiration and magnificence that was present earlier on.

If you're a DT fan and haven't yet bought this album then go ahead and add it to your collection. It may not be one of their best but it's still a brilliant album and deserves a lot of praise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick gift for those animal lovers out there, 26 Nov. 2013

I bought this as a gift for a friend who loves all critters. It's thin enough to fit inside a christmas card as a little extra something or putting in with another present. My friend found it hilarious and it now resides proudly on their fridge. Simple product, can't fault it.

Boofle Winter Range - Mini Boofle Plush Toy In Christmas Bag
Boofle Winter Range - Mini Boofle Plush Toy In Christmas Bag

4.0 out of 5 stars Small but very cute, ideal prezzie for Christmas, 26 Nov. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this little guy for a friend last Christmas, and I'm happy to say they were delighted. The toy itself is quite small but the whole package, with the thick paper bag and christmas tree makes it an ideal casual gift or secret santa prezzie. I can't comment too much about the toy itself as it wasn't in my hands for long but it is soft and looks washable.

The only downside for me was that the thick paper bag it comes in (as seen in photo) was slightly creased up during the delivery as it's not delivered in a box. Not the manufacturers fault really but a box for delivery would be nice.

Nothing to Envy: Real Lives in North Korea
Nothing to Envy: Real Lives in North Korea
by Barbara Demick
Edition: Paperback
Price: £6.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Personal, considerate and eye-opening journalism, 26 Nov. 2013

I bought this book to grab some background information on the reclusive country that is North Korea, after news stories from last year stoked my curiosity. We know much about their close neighbours South Korea but the land on the other side of the DMZ has barricaded itself away from the wider world.

Barbara Demick shines a spotlight on their 50 year history through the events witnessed by several ordinary citizens of the country. Their stories are uniquely fascinating and provide a unique viewpoint of what life is like for the different people living there.

The book won the Samuel Johnson prize in 2010, a prize awarded to eye-opening works of non-fiction, and after reading it is clear to see why. I would highly recommend this book to anyone curious about North Korea but even if you're not it's still a fantastic read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great performances bring this show to life, 25 Nov. 2013

Books were great and this show is equally satisfying, in part due to great performances from the cast, especially Peter Dinklage's rendition of Tyrion Lannister, who perfectly capture's the little dwarf's charm and wit. Season 2 covers the events of the second book, would highly recommend the show to anyone thinking about watching the series.

Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm (PC/Mac DVD)

5.0 out of 5 stars Still the best RTS game available, 4 April 2013

It's been 15 years since the release of the original StarCraft, and the Heart of the Swarm expansion ensures it stays as the best RTS game you can find.

If you have never heard of StarCraft before it can be briefly summed up as follows: It is a complex MMO RTS game set in a fictional space age universe where 3 races of different design, Terran, Protoss and Zerg, are able to be played against each other. It has a story mode that gradually introduces the player to the game's units, buildings and basic strategies and a multiplayer system for player-versus-player combat. StarCraft also has a vibrant eSports community and there is a lot of depth to the game beyond the campaign. If you enjoy a competitive atmosphere then this title could be for you.

Most obvious with this release is the brand new campaign spanning 20 missions where you play as Sarah Kerrigan, the psionic human-turned-zerg overlord, who is able to manipulate the Zerg swarm to her cause. The missions are good fun and can be played on a variety of different skill levels, and the story is easy to follow though some have criticised it for not being intellectually challenging and containing holes in its plausibility. I have to say at this point that I adore the voice acting talent in this release, the Zerg characters mesh really well with the overall feel of the story. The gameplay in the campaign is a mixtures of RTS and RPG elements. Sometimes you only control Kerrigan and must complete objectives using her powerful abilities and sometimes you gain access to a variety of the Zerg arsenal. Having previously played Zerg in Wings of Liberty, I think the campaign is a decent introduction to the Zerg race and many new players should feel relatively comfortable going forward into multiplayer, should they wish to do so, with the skills they develop during the missions. However it must be noted that a number of abilities in the campaign, such as the queen's heal, are different when switching to multiplayer.

Blizzard have tried to widen it's appeal to both the casual and hardcore communities by introducing a number of features that address issues they had with Wings of Liberty. The new clan features are great if you play with friends or want to meet like-minded individuals, if you often play solo then this update won't mean much to you. Extra rewards have been added that are unlockable by gaining experience through the online ladder, presumably to encourage players to have a go at the multiplayer pvp and ensure they feel they are being rewarded for their play. Lots of new maps have been added as well as new tilesets.

Despite receiving some visual upgrades it's still not aesthetically extravagant, but then it doesn't really need it. The gameplay has been knocked up another notch with the addition of new units and overall everything feels really fun right now. Having played a few games online it seems fairly balanced and there doesn't seem to be any overwhelming strategies storming the ladders (though widow mines are popular right now).

I've given this review 5 stars because I'd started to get bored with Wings of Liberty at the end of 2012, but this expansion has rekindled my love for the game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very comfy fit, 4 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If like me you have a slim torso and most regular t-shirts feel a little baggy then this slim fit will feel like a treat. It contours my body shape very well is generally very comfortable. I have the beige option and like the colour, which I hope won't fade too much in the wash. The material is thin but quite soft so it doesn't cause my skin to feel clammy underneath. Great t-shirt for the price.
