4.0 out of 5 stars " but I'm pretty sure that it is "missing", 1 Nov 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was really looking forward to seeing the "hit song" from the show "Les Mots Que L'On Ne dit Pas." but I'm pretty sure that it is "missing".
This seems to be an incomplete version of the stage show.
Still worth having, but why couldn't we have everything!
Very strange!

This book should come with a health warning, because after the hundredth mention of how wonderful god is...I was violently sick!

5.0 out of 5 stars Paul's on to something here!, 10 Aug 2013
Well, I borrowed this item from my local library: I am most impressed!
It really has re-energized my French studies (which were starting to flag).
I find it a very interesting way to learn the language.
Great stuff.

p.s. I'm now saving my pennies to get my own copy of the course.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing vocal sound!, 28 Feb 2013
Very disappointing vocal sound!
My God, they haven't got to get much right, but they still manage to mess things up!
Hear Carl singing "Honey Don't" on the Letterman Show.
That's the sound we want! Exciting! Natural! Wonderful!
This album is a lot better than nothing... but it could have been so much more!

What should we call Andy? The Jimi Hendrix of the klezmer clarinet? Or, maybe, the Little Walter of the Klezmer clarinet? Or, the John Coltrane?
I've been a fan of Andy Statman for nearly 40 yrs, and is my favourite Statman album.
It is so beautiful, and if there is a truely spiritual element to human existence, then this album surely taps into that.

4.0 out of 5 stars What about Usain Bolt?, 13 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I'm a great believer in hard work achieving great things but - in certain areas - one can't deny the existance of natural talent.
Take Usain Bolt for example, he's the world's greatest sprinter, but he could train 24 hrs a day but he couldn't turn himself in to a great distance runner because he has too many fast twitch muscle fibres
And, of course, vice versa with Mo Farah. He maybe the greatest distance in the world but he was murdered over 100m in the recent BBC Superstars programme by a heavtweight boxer!
But, having said that, hard - intelligent - pratice can take you a hell of a long way.

3.0 out of 5 stars Manufactured vocal style, 3 Jan 2013
This review is from: Roll Away The Stone (Audio CD)
Vocally, I know exactly where Kelly Joe is coming from!
Way back, he decided that he'd have to create a vocal style full of "lived in", world weary character!
And, it must be said, that it has worked - for most listeners, but certainly not for me!
I can hear the process, and the results sound artificial and manufactured.
His lap slide work - which is very entertaining - is his saving grace, but it is a pity that I have to sit through those phoney vocals.
