Why French Children Don't Talk Back

2.0 out of 5 stars Demagogique (ic), 27 Nov. 2013
French recipes usually come in cooking books, but this one is about children education and simplifies everything to the point where young parents will close it and think 'I get it, my children will never misbehave now that I know.' Good luck with that. Nothing is that simple and a few tips won't infuse you with the right attitude.
Overall yes: considering a child as someone you can talk to like you would with an adult and letting lots of liberty inside of the limits established since birth clearly makes them more mature than in countries where anything is granted immediately. Not over-protecting them makes everyone's life easier as well. But after 300 pages you are left with the impression that voila the cake is baked, end of story. Not so much substance after all.

Miracle at Medinah: Europe's Amazing Ryder Cup Comeback
Miracle at Medinah: Europe's Amazing Ryder Cup Comeback
by Oliver Holt
Edition: Paperback
Price: £8.99

3.0 out of 5 stars Alright., 27 Nov. 2013
It is not a bad book, gives pretty much the full story of the 2012 Ryder Cup, with some input from backstage, more on the European side. The shadow of Seve Ballesteros is all over the book and Medinah, Poulter brings the European back from the dead, Stricker misses a few putts he never misses, Martin Kaymer holes the crucial putt, Tiger is left with nothing, Olazabal lets some tears of joy on the last green.
All good, but the book itself lacks the intensity the event had. I youtubed the last two hours of the competition as I was reading the last 100 pages, and that was not in the book favour, even with the poor definition of the video. First, there are a few mistakes (e.g. where Phil acknowledges Justin's clutch putt) and the all thing is written with the knowledge of the outcome which castrates the excitement of the writer.

So not bad, but the greatest sports book ever, I don't think so. Try John Feinstein and Lauren St John's golf books... And I'm sure cricket and tennis have produced major thrillers too!

Drive for Show, Putt for Dough: Memoirs of a Golf Hustler
by Leon Crump
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best golf books ever, 2 Nov. 2012
Read first The Green by Troon McAllister and then this one, you'll be amazed.
Brilliant depiction of the life of a golf hustler, and how clever and confident you have to be to win a game by the right margin to have your client come back and ask for more.

This review is from: The Green (Hardcover)
Quite entertaining. GOlf novels are not an easy exercise and TMA makes a good job keeping things quite realistic.
True enough, pros would know the rules better and noone would let a Ryder Cup player delay his match 15 minutes to know what's going on behind him... Still a good story with some great depictions of golf shots.
It's easy to recognize John Daly or Tiger Woods in some characters... But who is Caminetti? Well try this one:
Drive for Show, Putt for Dough: Memoirs of a Golf Hustler by Leon Crump and you will know. It is an amazing book by the master golf con artist. "I push you Tommy"

1.0 out of 5 stars Not very good. Cheap plastic, approximate shape, 22 Oct. 2012

Overall cannot recomment. Of course the price is low, but the buttons don't click nicely through the cover, the plastic feels very cheap and somehow the case is not rectangular: the right hand side is too long and the all thing looks quirky.

L'engrenage : Mémoires d'un trader
L'engrenage : Mémoires d'un trader

1.0 out of 5 stars "Les mémoires d'un âne", 23 May 2010
