2.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre, 3 Sept. 2015
This review is from: Urban Cowboy (MP3 Download)
I agree entirely that this work has not aged well. Richmond is a cracking track. Roberts has a tendency to lightweight songs peppered with a few excellent ones.I have to say Grandmother's Floor is also evocative and heartfelt.

I firmly believe that judicious selections from all his works would make ONE excellent cd. In this respect Roberts not alone David McWilliams also falls into this category.

2.0 out of 5 stars Now I am a former fan., 7 Dec. 2014
This review is from: Kin (Audio CD)
The sisters have undergone a slickification process and in my view lost several of the elements which I found delightful and interesting. There is a high gloss sheen which will win over some new fans but lose others. What more can I say? It really leaves me cold; for me, the rootsy authenticity has been polished out of their music.

2.0 out of 5 stars Beware, 1 May 2014
This review is from: Ugly (Kindle Edition)
Barrister Constance Briscoe has been found guilty of lying to police probing former cabinet minister Chris Huhne's speeding points case.

In 2006 she published the book Ugly, which tells the story of a childhood marred by extreme mental and physical abuse.

Two years later her mother Carmen sued and lost a costly libel case - she has always disputed the allegations of abuse.

It has now emerged that police are investigating whether documents presented in that case were falsified. A doctor whose signature appears on some of the letters says he only wrote two of them.

In a word slick.Such a disappointment. Lurching towards "Abigail's Party" fare. Another commentator used the word polished, correct. Music for Mondeo Man or whatever the current equivalent demographic is these days.

CD Description
Now available on Repertoire in Digipak format, this is the collectors version of a well known 1971 album with an amusing title! Second album from one of the most dynamic 70s British Blues Rock groups, noted for their distinctive, driving riff-laden sound. Killing Floor's Mick Clarke is interviewed by respected author and journalist Chris Welch for the detailed liner notes in the booklet. Expertly remastered!

I received the 1998 plastic tray copy and I would like to know why.

Music is ok.

I was very disappointed with this album. Too many cheery, silly songs. Im a Thompson as miserablist fan.The "humour" and the faux Americana I can do without

I saw the Smoke Fairies at a festival last Saturday. They were superb. I immediately bought the Amercan double digipak of the album and the ep compilation at their stall. The singing is marvellous and the playing is delightfully subtle. They have all the best attributes of many musical influences in the mix, as others have said. They have listened and learned on a massive scale and yet they are all of their own.

If you ever need the antidote to Lady Gagaitis then this is it. Great music played by two intelligent,self-effacing and skilful young women.Absolutely top notch and great frocks too!

I had this album many years ago and it really is light compared with Keiran's excellent work with Steamhammer. Sadly I found it irritating; in the end I sold it.

Eccentric and superb. Sign on my Mind sees Gary Moore on top form. Thanks mum for buying it for me in Belfast, 1970- I am still listening to it on cd.

Hyped dullness to the nth degree. The guy who reviewed this in Record Collector and gave it 5 stars must be in the pay of the record company.
