1.0 out of 5 stars Utter rubbish., 27 April 2014

Very disappointed with this film. If the writers are just going to make stuff up they shouldn't be allowed to call it The Hobbit. It wasn't even a good film. Save your money and buy the book instead.

This is a beautiful song, very meaningfully sung by Russell Watson, which gets more and more enjoyable the more you listen to it. A touching poem is included, sensitively and well spoken by Simon Weston. Also, it is for a great cause so I would urge everyone to buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Only One Man - but what a man!!, 11 Nov 2013

It is unusual to get a new CD from Russell Watson on which the majority of the songs are unfamiliar to most listeners. However, all of the tracks grew on me really quickly and soon became embedded in my mind. From the oh so poignant 'Seventeen' and 'Too Much For One Heart' to the stirring title track 'I Am Only One Man' it's all here - the power, passion, emotion and tenderness which Russell always gives - only much, much more so. He has put so much heart into this record, his voice is even more amazing than usual and it is exciting and fresh and very touching.
Great songs from Messrs Schonberg and Boublil and good orchestrations and production combine to give a very full, rounded sound to the whole CD.
.
I love it all, in my opinion (as a long time fan) it is his best work to date.

The only thing missing is a 'Warning - Highly Addictive' label!

Bravo Russell

5.0 out of 5 stars A fine collection of patriotic and uplifting songs., 30 May 2012

I am delighted with this CD which contains such a great variety of songs and styles of singing. Whether classical or pop Russell sings each track with considerable aplomb and a great deal of feeling. I particularly like Calon Lan with the Fron Male Voice Choir, Danny Boy and the sweet and nostalgic duet of The White Cliffs of Dover with Dame Vera Lynn. An excellent selection of songs from the equally excellent Russell Watson. Good one Russell!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Unexpected Delight, 21 April 2010
I was completely unaware of this work and probably would have remained so had I not been a huge fan of Russell Watson, so I am grateful that wanting to hear him singing in it brought it to my attention. I was completely captivated the moment I heard it. An extremely emotive and moving story of the hardships faced by the Swedish migrants who faced the unknown in search of a better life for themselves and their families, I couldn't help feeling empathy for them.
The work is beautifully sung by the whole company, full of passion, excellent performances. Helen Sjoholm as 'Kristina' gives a heartfelt rendition of 'You Have To Be There' and I could feel her desperation and anguish. Russell Watson sings his part of her husband Karl Oscar magnificently and with great emotion, ranging from anger and frustration to the heart-melting tenderness of which he is always capable. Strong performances too from Kevin Odekirk and Louise Pitre as 'Robert' and 'Ulrika', and from the children and the rest of the cast.
I didn't know what to expect from the music but was pleasantly surprised with plenty of variation and one or two 'Whoa - Abba!' moments (especially in 'Lice'). The use of rock guitars especially in the second act seemed a bit incongruous at first and slightly weird but it all adds to the experience.
All in all, apart from a couple of cringe-making lines in the translation, it's a brilliant 'listen', and something I'll return to over and over again, as long as there are enough tissues in the world!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Smooth and Smoochy Collection, 9 Feb 2010
A lovely collection of love songs from the glorious voice of Russell Watson, who tackles any genre of music with considerable talent and aplomb. Here we have pop, swing and soul numbers, along with "We Will Stand Together" set to "Nimrod" and the beautiful "You'll Still Be There For Me" set to the theme music of the film "Rob Roy" with its oh so romantic lyrics.
There are also 3 great duets with Lionel Richie, Alexander O'Neal and Cleopatra Higgins.

This is perfect to listen to any time, but best, I think, late at night cuddled up on the sofa. Dreamy, dreamy stuff!
