5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious. Watch this., 4 Jan. 2015

Hilarious, painful to watch, rude, smutty, awkward... ticks all the boxes for an Inbetweeners episode/film. This is not a film to be pulled apart and critiqued - it is made for the sheer joy of laughing! If you like the idea of someone being chased by a turd down a water slide, look no further...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not great, 4 Jan. 2015

This is a short story, so needs to grip from page 1 to the finale - it doesn't, although it is fairly enjoyable, if somewhat tame. The premise is a bit weak and you need to suspend belief to go with the book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read, interesting idea, bit long winded, 4 Jan. 2015

Good premise for a book - the lead character is in prison for killing someone, but who? The lead character takes us through his story of what led to him ending up in prison. Overall I enjoyed the book, but it was a bit long winded, and the lead character telling the story sometimes was not convincing as a) it was talking about situations he wasn't directly involved in, so wouldn't know about, b) the first person narrative sometimes slipped and c) the lead character was not very nice, so when he describes something for the reader to emphasise with, you can't. All in all, fairly good read, but could do with some polishing in places to make it flow better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic whodunnit, well written and entertaining, 4 Jan. 2015

This wasn't at all what I expected, but I really enjoyed it. It is a very enjoyable story of the ilk of a classic Agatha Christie, with some good characters and a twist at the end. I liked the characters and the setting, it was a pleasurable read and I would recommend it - but I did feel that the ending was a bit rushed, after such a lovely build up, it felt a bit jammed in at the end. But still good and worth a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book, 4 Jan. 2015

Brilliant book, really entertaining and fast paced with good likeable characters and a very good plot.
So, basically, JJ Graves is back in the small town she grew up in, after her parents death, which means she inherited a funeral parlour, plus she also takes on the role of local medical examiner - should be a quiet and boring life, but there is a murderer on the loose... I have to say I didn't guess who the killer was at all, and the romantic side of the book was handled with the right amount of comedy/smut/hope to make it entertaining rather than icky. The characters are fabulous - even the small town side characters are comedy gold yet believable. I have already downloaded the next 2 books and started book 2, which even after 2 chapters is proving as addictive and entertaining as the first. This is a great read, with all elements delivered in just the right measure - highly recommend!

3.0 out of 5 stars OK but not for me, 9 Nov. 2014

This started out by catching my attention and setting the intrigue to high.. but then I realised there was a supernatural element to it, and it all got a bit fanciful for my liking - not my type of book really. Having said that, it was an OK read.

Jumps straight into the action, so you are gripped from the start. It was intelligently written with some good characters, the key point for the reader should have been about the fate of the children who have been snatched, but for me it was about solving the puzzle and outwitting the baddie - I clearly have no heart!! A great read, adrenaline kicks in from page 1, so put some time aside as once you start, you just want to keep on going.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK but hard work to read, 9 Nov. 2014

The idea for the book is strong, and the characters are well thought through - but the execution of the writing detracts from all of that. I found it hard going and frustrating for a lot of the book, the main character is focussed and yet lacks direction (if that makes sense!), I wanted to give her a bit of a shake and tell her to sit down and think, rather than rushing here and there and achieving not very much. I guessed the 'baddie' pretty much from the beginning, and was waiting for it to dawn on the lead character (and everyone else!), I think the idea was sound but the writing was a bit laboured. Worth a read, but bear with it!

Harlen Coben seems incapable of writing a duff book! This is yet another show stopper, I was literally reading it everywhere I went, excellent book.
The only very slight criticism is that the side story about the boys being tried for rape does peter out towards the end of the book, and having been such a big focus to start with, it seemed a bit of an anti-climax. However, the main story is superb, as ever - characters are well drawn, dialogue is believable, plot is strong. Read this book!
