Enjoyable atmospheric tale, 6 Dec 2011
This was sat in my reading pile for a little while and only now round to reading it.
It's a short tale, no escaping that, but since we have the obvious Moby Dick comparisons, now about a nod to Hemingways Old Man And The Sea which is an equally short story but immensely enjoyable (I was introduced to that by an aunt when very young, and recommended to my kids also)
I digress - this book shows signs of a great storyteller and agree with other reviews that I would appreciate reading a longer work by the author. The atmosphere is certainly there and I did find myself swept into it quite a bit although some editorial control would probably iron out some minor bits that didn't fit with the vintage the piece is trying to deliver. That's a minor gripe though. Short, sharp, fun, compelling. Will keep an eye for a fully fledged novel from this author.
