Edition: Hardcover

3.0 out of 5 stars More damage than was advertised, 10 May 2014

It was lovely getting this again after all these years. The description was somewhat inaccurate though as there are several pages missing items or parts torn off ans I would have purchased elsewhere if the seller had been honest about this.

1.0 out of 5 stars FAKE ITEM - DON'T BUY FROM THIS COMPANY, 8 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
First of all this item is in Germany not the UK as advertised. Secondly after waiting for over a month for it to arrive and trying on three devices this is completely useless, it does nothing at all. There is no return address so this is a scam.

4.0 out of 5 stars Long time coming but as described, 3 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It too an INCREDIBLY long tome to be dispatched but on the plus side it was new as described. The second book dealing with the Minors is not much help but the first one is a much better study than most that are out there.

1.0 out of 5 stars WARNING - BOOTLEG ITEM, 1 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I say this is an illegal item because there is no way that what I received could ever be given genuine Five star reviews.
First of all this is advertised as a New item - no it isn't - the box showed obvious signs of being pre-used and with considerable wear and tare. With regard to the cards themselves I really couldn't believe what I was seeing. The paper they are printed on is so thin that it immediately curled up like a Banana when out of the box and then the cards actually started to disintegrate in my hands, just by holding them! The edges of the card started to peel off and the "Print" started turning to powder as I watched.
There is no way this is a legitimate item, I will return it of course but I don't expect a refund and will need to report this to Amazon.

1.0 out of 5 stars More blatant theft of other peoples work by Jonny Boakes., 24 April 2014
As with all the so called Boakes "games" I use the term (loosely) from this self appointed ambassador for UK software the entire content has literally been stolen.
The graphics on all of these atrocities have all been screen grabbed from the DVD extras on the Sapphire and Steel DVD Box Set.
The story's have been stolen from the same DVD, The sounds have been sampled and stolen from the same DVD. Boakes has had no original input whatsoever into anything he does.

Boakes in an embarrassment to the UK gaming industry, don't but these it just encourages him.

3.0 out of 5 stars Done for money not for love or for the fans, 22 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
After the disgraceful act of deliberately defrauding the public by releasing what was essentially an 1929 bootleg by an inferior artist and calling it "The Original RWS Tarot" it was going to be a cold day somewhere in the Major Arcana's before I put any money into Stuart Kaplan's pockets again.
However that being said the promise of a book full of Pamela Colman's art was too tempting even for me so I positively threw myself on the bait hook for this one! That part of this set is really what redeems an otherwise mediocre effort to make some more cash by using a sensationalist title such as "The Pamela Colman Smith Commemorative Set". With a few Postcard size reproductions of the artwork printed on stiff card, ideal for framing, as well as what is in the book I am glad that I bought this item. The written content of the book is somewhat disappointing though and seems to have been written as an excuse for S. Kaplan to keep boasting about his extensive private collection of PCS artwork and Card Packs. If it is an actual life history of Pamela Colman Smith you are looking for there are much more informative PDF files dealing with the history of the Rider Smith Tarot and the life of PCS for you download for free.

The second book is yet ANOTHER butchered version of A.E. Waite's "The Pictorial Key To The Tarot" that has been poorly photocopied with all the pictures removed (!) We all know about this one and what he thinks of his fellow Tarot enthusiasts so the only other thing I will add here is to be careful with this because it feels like it could physically fall apart at any moment while being read.

SO now we have the Cards themselves. Regrettably there are clear quality control issues here as what we have is a very patchy affair indeed. On the plus side the cards haven't been coated with layers of plastic varnish so there is a noticeable reduction in shine but the print quality on each card goes from passable to appalling and everything in between. Obviously the cards have been contracted out to different printing companies with no agreement between any of them as to what they were trying to produce - Some show the very different color scheme of the early R/W Tarot backs while others look like they were done on an early Eighties Dot Matrix Printer. Some have nice neat borders and others have horribly off-center and blurry overlaps where nobody has even bothered to line up the shots properly before hitting the print button. OH - and each of the cards has that damn annoying Copyright notice printed on the face of them too!

Considering the obvious consideration and time spent on the presentation box I am baffles as to why there is no box included for the cards themselves, instead we have the cheapest and nastiest Light Blue synthetic, scratchy net bag that fell apart in my hands when i trice to put the cards in them.

In conclusion - This offering is more Box than Content that really could have been something special but I give it a Three for the Artwork of PCS.

1.0 out of 5 stars More intellectual theft and insult from Jonny Boakes, 13 April 2014
How on earth Boakes hasn't been busted for copyright theft is beyond me. From the pitiful "Barrow Hill" where he copied and used the images and story from Doctor Who - The Stones of Blood comes this piece of garbage, this time however Boakes has ripped off Sapphire and Steel.
Literally every element from this sorry Boakes entry has been taken from the second story of the first season of Sapphire and Steel, he has even scanned and reproduced screenshots from the TV Show to use as graphics along with a completely ripped off soundtrack, story and script. Boakes has stolen EVERYTHING in this game from other peoples work and claims it as his own. As for the game programming itself it is exactly the same as he has been doing for over Ten Years now so read any review for a Boakes "Game" and that is what you have here.
Jonny Boakes is an embarrassment to the British gaming industry as he claims to be an "Ambassador" to the world as the best Britain has to offer. This is insulting to Real, Dedicated British games designers and makes a mockery of the games industry from Britain as perceived internationally.

Give it up Jonny Boakes you are an embarrassment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Value out there - get them before the price goes sky high again!, 17 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
When this arrived I was so pleased with it that I immediately ordered a second one for a friend. The cards and book are of good quality and contain a comprehensive (if short) introduction to the genesis of Tarot cards and the ruling family who invented them.

Regarding "authenticity" people should be aware though that these are NOT the cards from the Pierpoint Morgan Visconti Tarot that were taken from actual photographs of the original items, the cards in this set are redesigned digital approximations of Morgan cards. The re-imaging and repainting of the Morgan images that come with this package is open for debate and personal taste, some will love them and some will hate them and while some of the fine details have been clarified others have either been changed or removed completely with all the faces having been changed to look more "Jolly" than the sometimes dour expressions on the Pierpoint Morgan cards.
Being lucky enough to own a set first edition of Pierpoint Morgan cards I would say that in some respects the embellishment on this version enhances them but also takes away a great deal in regards to the "Emotional Feel" of the cards while the four "Missing" cards in this set are completely different to the ones that were commissioned for the Morgan set so please be aware of this before purchase to avoid being disappointed. Personally I like this version of the Visconte cards and I am glad that this publisher hasn't coated them in an inch of shiny resin so no sunglasses are necessary when reading with these.

The book itself is also a High quality product giving a brief outline of the Visconte family and the circumstances that brought the cards into being. However that being said this book is not for people with delicate sensibilities because it also exposes a lot of the late Eighteenth Century fraud claiming that Tarot cards were from Egypt so be discerning whom this is given to (I'v seen people having to be scraped off the ceiling because of the uncomfortable truth about the Egyips origins fraud).
