Try this before going electric, 18 April 2012
I am a new mum and the first time I used it, it was really uncomfortable and I barely expressed anything. But I went back at it a couple days later and have been happy with the results. I've been using it a couple times a day everyday since. My problem is with oversupply/strong letdown/engorgement and pumping helps my baby from being overwhelmed and choking.
Here are some tips:
- the petals should only touch the aerolea not the nipple, otherwise you will be in for some soreness
- stimulate letdown by pumping in quick succession the first 10 seconds or so
- it is not necessary to squeeze pump all the way down to get a good milk flow
- RELAX. Take deep breaths and visualize milk flowing from your breast. It really helps!
I'm happy with product and am glad i tried this first before investing in an expensive electric pump. I took one star off because of occasional leaking from the pump; the best way to prevent a mess is to have a burp cloth underneath at all times.
