Air Transport and the Consumer: A Need for Change? : a Report on Air Transport Regulation in Europe
Air Transport and the Consumer: A Need for Change? : a Report on Air Transport Regulation in Europe
by National Consumer Council
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars A bit specialised but...., 8 Mar 2014

Air transport is one of those things that effects most of us, but we don't think too much about why the airline, airport, passenger 'interface' is so awful - and never seems to get any better. The answer lies in the way the whole system is structured - who is the customer of who and what their motivations are. The late lamented NCC got to grips with the problem and this book outlines their analysis of what's wrong and how to put it right. A little bit dated but still very, very relevant.

Adapt: Why Success Always Starts with Failure
Adapt: Why Success Always Starts with Failure
by Tim Harford
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars Very insightful, 8 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Like many people, I am a bit of a fan of Tim Harford - his broadcasts have made people far more aware of figures and statistics (official or otherwise) - we all look at them twice now, and look for the flaws. This book is in his usual style - and explains (I oversimplify massively here) how getting something wrong very often leads to getting something right. And how all organisations need to adapt to circumstances to survive. A good read

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I wanted, 8 Mar 2014

Dylon is rather good for just adding a bit of starch to a wash when you need it, It's simple and works well. But it's quite hard to get hold of these days for some reason (and people keep inflating the price) - this was good value, quickly delivered and very well packaged. Perfect.

The Piano Shop on the Left Bank: The Hidden World of a Paris Atelier
The Piano Shop on the Left Bank: The Hidden World of a Paris Atelier
by T.E. Carhart
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars Blissful, 14 Mar 2013

This is a gem of a book. The hidden away world of a parisian piano restorer - a world unknown to the rest of us. In the process of a good story it reveals a whole heap about different makes of pianos and how they work; you finish the book much wiser than you started and with an unexpected passion for pianos. It was recommended by a musical school friend - I would recommend it to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Convincing and revealing, 14 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was recommended this by an army friend - he said it debunks a lot of the myths about the Great War. It does, and in a very convincing way too - full of facts, details and common sense analysis. I covers a lot of ground about people, circumstances and equipment that paints a clear picture. I've been transcribing my great uncle's first world war diary, and this complements it well. It's a very good read too, with an easy writing style, and not in any sense a 'heavy' history book, yet it is more then academic enough for the non-historian to quote it in a discussion, or for a student to cite it in an essay.

This replaces an older jigsaw that made a noise like a banshee. The Bosch is quiet in comparison, simple, light and easy to use. Occasionally I have a problem getting the blades out, but that may just be me. Good value - very pleased with it.

This is a nice safe way of running windows programs on a Mac without committing yourself to percentages of disc space or having to start and stop the computer. It runs really well, particularly with my odd combination Windows and Microsoft and Corel programs, all from very different dates. Wouldn't swap it for anything else - and it suits an non-techie person like me.
