1.0 out of 5 stars stopped working after 6 weeks, 8 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
After 6 weeks of keeping on my keyring the unit just stopped working. This is not expected or acceptable when paying this much for a USB key. Looking back through the reviews I am not the first reviewer to experience this problem. I am unable to return it as it has work related content on it that I have no way of knowing if it is recoverable or not, hence the money is wasted.

5.0 out of 5 stars brutally opinionated, incredibly funny, 7 Nov. 2012
I think this is his ninth (official) release and there is still no sign of him running out ideas or rehashing old material. Stanhope's ability to come at topics from unexpected angle never ceases to amaze. If you are brave you will find yourself repeating some of this as if it were your own. If the world wasn't so sensitive this guy would be incredibly famous.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ring tone and keypad broken after four weeks of use., 2 Dec. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
After about four weeks of use the phone no longer rang and the number four key on the keypad did not work. Contacting the company resulted in them reiterating what is said in their trouble shooting guide; they were not willing to replace the phone. I have been left with a useless phone.

Chinese Characters: A Genaelogy and Dictionary
Chinese Characters: A Genaelogy and Dictionary
by R Harbaugh
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent little dictionary, fascinating genealogy charts., 12 Nov. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Excellent little dictionary in its own right and light enough to carry around in your college bag. The genealogy charts are fascinating and really helpful when learning characters. Comprehensive set of indexes. Traditional characters with simplified given for reference.

The Chinese Lexicon: A Comprehensive Survey
The Chinese Lexicon: A Comprehensive Survey
by Yip Po-Ching
Edition: Paperback
Price: £32.99

3.0 out of 5 stars No character or word index, 12 Nov. 2009
The content is really interesting but the complete lack of a character, pinyin or even character/word English translations index was very disappointing, and makes the book almost totally useless if you want to find out where particular characters or words fit into the scheme of things.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really useful, up-to-date practical information., 12 Nov. 2009
This book contains a wealth of really useful, up-to-date practical information, much of which you won't find in your Chinese language text book. The section on grammar is an excellent summary that really helps put things in perspective, and the section on pronunciation does an excellent job of explaining usually unexplained technical terms such as 'aspirated' and 'palatals'. There is a section on characters that degenerates a little into lists under 'radical' headings, which would not necessarily be a bad thing except for the one disappointment with the book; the complete lack of an index. Although the book is not marketed as a reference text, the wealth of examples and explanation makes it highly frustrating that you cannot search an index for a particular construct or character that you are struggling with. There is a scholarly section on the history and dialects and useful suggestions for further reading (advice I have followed and am very happy with). The book is engagingly written and the most enjoyable book I have read on the language since starting my studies. Oh, and all the language examples are given in characters, pinyin and English.

1.0 out of 5 stars Snake oil, 12 Nov. 2009
I really did not like this book. To my mind it is trying to sell a magical formula that replaces the hard work of learning Chinese characters. The formula works for a few simple examples but for all the others it takes more effort than just doing the work. Books giving a breakdown of the structure of the characters and their genealogy are much more useful with the added bonus that this information is really interesting.

1.0 out of 5 stars unable to get raid1 working, 10 Jun. 2009
Initially I fitted two 1TB drives, a Maxtor and a Samsung, after raid1 configuration had seemed to go well the first reboot of the unit would result in silent failure of the raid. Investigation revealed a lot of discussion on message boards about problems with Samsung disks (e.g. nas-4220.org) so I replaced the Samsung with a Seagate. Now I have a slightly different set of symptoms but the result is the same; no raid. The only advice from support has been to upgrade firmware which I did quite a while ago. I am currently (2009-06-10) using the latest firmware with Maxtor and Seagate 1TB drives and I am unable to get raid1 working, and I have no useful contribution from support.
