4.0 out of 5 stars Mark Lamarr got is so wrong, 22 Aug. 2004
This review is from: Guilty Pleasures (Audio CD)
The whole point of this collection was not to celebrate the naff or kitsch. Instead, it is a bunch of songs which were never fashoinable, not big hits but were played on the radio years ago and you perhaps quite liked. From my point of veiw ,it all reminds me of damp summers in canvas tents. Mark Lamarr just failed to understand it on his recent Radio 2 show and though I do like Mark Lamarr, I think his appraisal of this ws just wrong. Sorry Mark.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Album, 10 Jun. 2004
This review is from: Big Thing (Audio CD)
If Le Bon had mutilated himself, or if Taylor (J) has died in a car crash or if Nick Rhode had become a recluse with long fingernails then this LP would be regarded as a classic.

Post teeny bop, this is their Pet Sounds, but with a better mix and less filler.

They had the strut.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightul, 31 July 2003
Brilliant, and proof that "realism" does not have to mean narcotics and joy riders on a council estate. Nice things happen in life as well and Ms Hughes celebrates the everyday in such a delightful way.

3.0 out of 5 stars So Sorry, 31 July 2003
So sorry but I do not like the Piano part of this Two Lp on one CD album at all. And I have tried. Really. And I have tried to consider its' context too. Silk and Soul is so much better. Piano, a bit like Pet Sounds, is aquiring a mythological status that it does not necessarily deserve, especially when its makers have produced far superior recordings.
Sorry

5.0 out of 5 stars Magnificent, 11 Jun. 2003
This is a brilliant book. I am 33 years old and stumbled across it in my local library. I knew Mr Blakes work through Mr Dahl.
This is such a moving book and little boy is enthralled by its reading.
I am afraid that the scene where Mrs Tredegar (that was her name) ties the ship up makes me cry.
In an age where inane drivel such a "Big Brother" passes for popular culture, I am so pleased that it is possible for innocence and intellect to prevail in this delightful book.
