5.0 out of 5 stars Sunshines brightly., 21 Sep 2007
This review is from: Sunshine [DVD] [2007] (DVD)
I must say i'm very surprised by the negative reviews some people have given Sunshine on this site. I might have given this four stars but i'll give it five just to make up for the silly low scores some have given it. I'll admit that there is a rather silly twist at the end but this isn't a generic, by the numbers, space movie. Regardless of the twist, the ending is excellent. The story is nothing original (it's space what do you want?), a team of people, each with their own purpose, are on a mission to kick start the dimming sun using a large bomb. Needless to say, things go a bit pear shaped. What makes this movie special though is the cast. The team is made up of actors from Britain, Ireland, Australia, China, Japan and America. Each cast member gives a great, measured performace but the stand out is Cillian Murphy who is brilliant here. The score is excellent and the effects (though this isn't an effects driven movie) are good, with the brilliant sun being a constant, god like presence throughout. You really get a sense of what it'd be like being so close to the sun. See this movie, i'm confident you'll love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, 4 Sep 2007
I saw this film on televisioin and was utterly blown away. Michael Douglas and Sean Penn give stunning performances as do the rest of the cast. As the above synopsis says, the rug is constantly pulled from under the viewer. Purchase this DVD without a second thought.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good western., 26 Aug 2007
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
I really love the setting of this game. I wish there were more western games. The old west is stunning in Call Of Juarez. The levels are large and sprawling, giving the impression that you could go for miles in any direction you wish. Unfortunately there are a few niggles with the visuals. There is a tiny bit of tearing, however this is rarely noticable. There's a fair bit of aliasing but the one stand out issue for me is the lighting. As I said the locations are beutifull but it seems that even in the blazing sunshine, anything in even the slightest bit of shade is too dark. Another thing is that things in the distance are quite blurred. So generally the graphics in Call Of Juarez are average, but the stunning setting largely makes up for this. The speech in the game is a little too quiet but the sound isn't bad and the voice acting is decent. Half of the game is spent as Billy, a young Mexican on the run from his Uncle the Reverand. Billy uses the bow and arrow which is quite fun to use as the arrows follow a realistic trajectory. This means that you need to aim above a far of enemy to hit them. Billy also has a whip which can be used as a weapon but it's main purpose is to latch onto branches and stuff to help Billy swing onto a ledge or something. As Billy you can use guns as well. Billy can also climb onto slightly higher objects than the Reverend can jump onto. Billy's missions are mainly sneeking and platforming with minimum fighting. The other half of the game will be played and the Reverend. An old gunslinger similair to Eastwood's character in Unforgiven and the Saint of Killers in the Preacher comics. As the Reverend you'll get to use various fire arms and his slow motion concentration mode (bullet time). His missions are really fun wild shoot outs. You'll get to ride horses as both characters. You will also get into one on one duels but these are clumsy and not fun. Overall I recommend this game if you like westerns.

5.0 out of 5 stars UFO's are real., 30 May 2007
This book is a thorough investigation into UFO's and in particular the 1947 incident near New Mexico where a UFO crashed. You wont see any vague stories or unchecked evidence here. Much time has went into making sure that everything here makes sense and is 100% correct and relavent. You are presented with the facts, not fed any fantastical tales. I'm certain that this book will prove to even the most ignorrant debunker that UFO's are real. This book is so detailed that if the government ever comes out with the truth they may hold up this book and say "what that guy said".

1.0 out of 5 stars Rubbish, 27 May 2007
This movie is retarded. Here's a summary of the film. Evil North Korea atack America blah blah blah. Small American squad sent into Korea to save the day. As they're jumping out of the plane, the president changes his mind and cancels mission, but 4 troops have already jumped and are now on North Korean soil. Woops. They are ordered to lay low and wait, once America has done what it needs to do they will get picked up. So the 4 troops go into a village and get spotted by a boy and start a shoot out which gets two of them killed and the other two captured. What happened to laying low? Anyway, they are eventually saved by North Korean defectors or something and call their boss who calls the president who orders them to commplete their initial mission (make up your damn mind). Basically from here it's lots of shooting, horribly steriotypical Americans being ignorrant (so very very ignorrant), Americans being sympathetic while Koreans plug inocent bystanders mercilessly (because of course that's what it's really like *rollseyes*). This is a dreadful film that nobody could possibly like.

5.0 out of 5 stars Watch this., 22 May 2007
There's nothing much I can add to Ian David Curry's excellent review below but I feel compelled to give my recommendations to this documentary. One of the previous reviewers said this was a one sided film. What is the other side? This film presents nothing but facts. For another opinion talk to the bosses at Walmart. One scene that I remember was a woman recalling being car jacked in the Walmart parking and threatened with her life. This is apparently a fairly common occurence in Walmart parking lots. This all happened with security cameras watching the whole thing. These cameras are not set up for the customers safety however, they are in place to watch out for any union reps who might appear. Get this. No police were called and no security appeared to help the lady.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hit & Miss, 27 Feb 2007
I love a good mash up and this is a good mash up. Good, not great. Mashing up Hip Hop (a cappella), old and new, with 80's pop songs (instrumental) is a great idea and for the most part, works well in this album. There are bad tracks here though, number 17, Missy Elliot vs. Bobby Brown being the worst with completely mismatched songs badly cut together. Interludes featuring sound clips from well known 80's movies are dotted throughout this album and although they perhaps help set the 80's tone, they don't seem to be relavent to the music (bar a few instances). My final complaint is with the use of vulgar language in the CD's title. It just doesn't suit the up beat mood of the music featured.

This is mostly a good effort and no doubt most will enjoy it. This could have been much better than it is though, considering the potential of the concept.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome action!, 28 Nov 2006
Mission Impossible 3 sees Tom Cruise return as Ethan Hunt to retrieve a very dangerous device called the Rabbits Foot for bad guy arms dealer Owen Davian (Phillip Seymour Hoffman), who's holding Ethan's wife hostage as a way to blackmail Ethan into stealing the aforementioned device. The Rabbits foot is really just a Macguffin. What matters here is that Ethan Hunt and his team must risk life and limb to steal the device in order to save Ethan's wife. There's a much bigger focus on the team collaboration in MI3 than the previous films and it makes a huge difference. The action in this movie is just about the most thrilling i've ever seen. That's really all you need to know to be honest. The entire cast puts in a great performance. Lawrence Fishburn is a great addition to the cast as Ethan's hardline boss. The locations are interesting. It's funny at the right moments and it has a good ending. My only complaint (it's more of an observation though) is that the dramatic scenes are a bit overdone for my taste. I think this is perhaps because the chemistry between Michelle Monaghan and Tom Cruise provide little spark. I think the film would have benefitied greatly if Thandie Newton had reprised her role from MI2. MI3 is a five star action movie though. If you're a fan of this genre this is a must buy.

This is a classic movie. Who can resist a musical comedy starring Dan Akroyd and John Belushi? This DVD belongs in your collection alongside all the other classic comedies.

This particular package is a good one. On disc 1 you get the theatrical version of the movie along with a making of bonus feature. On disc 2 you get the extended version of the movie and some bonus features. The features include an introduction to the movie by Dan Akroyd, and a few other features that you'll enjoy.

I recommend that everybody buys this DVD. You'll watch it many many times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ninja, Ninja Rap!, 26 May 2006
I remember this from my childhood. The Tutles were everywhere. On school bags, arcade machines, cartoons, comics and pretty much everywhere you looked. I decided to get the this DVD because I have such fond memories of the Turtles. I forgot how funny this film is. Another thing I was reminded of was how impressive the martial arts on display are. I couldn't stop smiling through the entire DVD because all the memories came flooding back and I felt like a kid again. If you remeber these guys from back in the day then get this.
