1.0 out of 5 stars Such potential...such a pity, 13 May 2005
I don't usually review DVD's, because I tend to agree with the reviews that others have written; but in this case I felt I had to warn you film lovers out there.
This film is by far the worst I've seen in years. Mind you it had potential. The premise is interesting, and the actors are really good. The execution is dismal though. The main problem with the film is the directing. My friends and I simply couldn't believe how bad this film was (and we wanted so much to like it).
For days after watching it I had a horrible empty feeling - one I've only experienced with a handful of films - and I had to watch a lot of other films before that feeling slowly left.
If films can affect you in the way this one has affected me, then perhaps you should skip the experience. I wish I had.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, 20 Mar 2005
On the cover they say "Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band took the stage ... in Barcelona, Spain, to create the kind of soul-stiring concert experience that transforms Springsteen neophytes and fans alike into true believers."
And that it does! Get this amazing DVD now and find out for yourself!

5.0 out of 5 stars A very handsome edition, 9 Mar 2005
Dante is a must. The Divine Comedy is fascinating, incisive and reads like a real adventure.
About this edition:
* Allen Mandelbaum's translation is simply wonderful.
* Top marks for accessibility: The book reads very easily and is very well annotated (some 250 pages of notes)
* This edition is highly practical (it contains all three parts), durable and aesthetically pleasing.
* Contains 42 of Boticelli's 15th century illustrations
Simply great value for money
If you want to get acquainted with this masterpiece then this is the edition to go for!

It's a Wonderful Life [DVD]
It's a Wonderful Life [DVD]

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't go for this edition!, 12 Feb 2005
This review is from: It's a Wonderful Life [DVD] (DVD)
It's a Wonderful Life is considered to be one of the great American films of all time.
The quality of this DVD-edition, however, is appalling, and does no justice to this classic (or any film for that matter).
The video quality is simply bad; but what is worse, after the opening titles there is no sound whatsoever.
Better pay a few quid more for an edition that does work properly...

Best Poems of the Bronte Sisters (Dover Thrift)
Best Poems of the Bronte Sisters (Dover Thrift)
by Emily Bronte
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Some underrated gems, 6 Feb 2005
Most critics feel that Emily was the more accomplished of the three sisters, but I was amazed at the poems by Charlotte in particular. Her poems are very descriptive; they create a mood and tell a story that really touches you.
Don't let the price fool you! This selection of poems is really excellent. It contains 23 poems by Emily, 14 poems by Anne and 10 poems by Charlotte.
I won't go into details about these poems (I'll leave you the pleasure of exploring them yourself). So go on: buy it, read it, treasure it. You can't argue with the price, can you!

On the Shoulders of Giants: The Great Works of Physics and Astronomy
On the Shoulders of Giants: The Great Works of Physics and Astronomy
by Stephen Hawking
Edition: Paperback
Price: 16.60

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful contribution, 6 Nov 2004
As an astronomy student this is the kind of book I had always wanted: the actual texts of some of the most significant works in physics! Up to now these texts were simply not accessible -- unless, of course, you were willing to find a dusty copy from the 30's in a university library.
It is fascinating to read the ideas of Copernicus, Keppler, Galileo, and the 'Principia' of Newton.
You will certainly find a few surprises, like the use of musical notes to describe the movement of the planets!
Stephen Hawking enthusiasts beware! This book is probably not for you. The target audience is people with a background and very keen interest in physics, and those who are fascinated by the history of science, and not afraid of a bit of math.
Contents
The great works of Copernicus, Galileo and Newton are all presented in their full form; From Kepler's five volume work you will only find volume 5; Einstein's section, contains seven of what are considered to be his main scientific publications on Relativity.
About the book
* The language and illustrations are very accessible.
* Some of the tables are difficult to read.
* The font is small, but not too small.
* The table of contents is a bit too brief, especially with regard to Einstein's section
All in all, great value for money, and a unique opportunity to read these original works. For this alone it deserves its 5 stars.
