Blood Ivory: The Massacre of the African Elephant
Blood Ivory: The Massacre of the African Elephant
by Robin Brown
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars Blood Ivory, 19 May 2008
Having seen the book reviewed in The Spectator, I thought I would pick up a copy. It's a wonderful digression on the African Elephant - cogent, page-turning stuff. Aside from the wealth of detail, a veritable who's who in African history and it's hunting background, the author has captured the spirit and passion for his subject. It doesn't falter in its scope and manages to assail the haughty, even prickly matter of the cull itself. As proud a possession as Ivory might be.

5.0 out of 5 stars festival lover, 8 May 2008
A lovely, portable companion written with verve, experience and the true passion of a devoted festival-packer. I would happily recommend this book to anyone interested in music and the festival experience, even to the point of sneakily putting a copy in the backpocket of a passerby. It's affordable, high-quality and totally worth it when you're in your tent waiting for the next stage performance.

5.0 out of 5 stars crocodiles and wombats, 22 April 2008
A perfectly delightful book - suitably kept in the greenhouse, the library or on the dining room table, Twigs Way has written an animalistic romp of fauna proportions. No other book like it has approached the concealed subject of gardens and pets, or the eccentric keepers of rare creatures. Excellent learning!

5.0 out of 5 stars Response to D Budde, 21 Sept. 2007
I'm not sure what Douglas Budd is prattling on about, but this book is an unprecedented undertaking, a truly original piece of research and study. Interesting, absorbing, well-organised and fundamentally a good reference book to have on your shelf, whether it's for cocktail ingredients or to consult in a pub quiz, Dictionary of Drink is a wonderful asset for anyone interested in the language of liquid. I commend this book with the highest praise and with the same fervor that probably greeted Dr Johnson when he published his lexicon. An exceptional landmark.
