3.0 out of 5 stars Strange EQ, 29 Oct 2011
This review is from: Bach: A Strange Beauty (Audio CD)
I'll leave it to others to critique the repertoire.

But here's one serious issue: The album is mastered very strangely ie. way too much low-end (ie. bass freqencies) for comfort on a hi-fi system. I wonder if this was an artistic choice - puzzling - an attempt to optimise for small speakers? - or simply a mistake ??

Check out the mp3 samples. The real thing sounds like that! If you don't like it, be ready to make adjustments via bass and treble tone controls if you have them. Not ideal.

Loads of great music for the price, in all different moods.

If you like this, check out the original album "Make it Right This Time" too.

4.0 out of 5 stars good one. works well with mac too, 21 Aug 2008
i was persuaded by the other reviewers and they're not wrong. this is a nice little keyboard for the price. works fine with Mac OS too. If you're writing a novel, maybe invest more in something with a nicer action. But for a lightweight, slim, small footprint portable keyboard - eg for a laptop - this is fine. Now, can anyone tell me what the transparent strip in the top right is for? It has curious logos next to it that I don't understand.

1.0 out of 5 stars what an expensive rip-off - don't touch, 9 Jun 2008
dear oh dear. these take the prize as the most humiliating consumer con i have ever been victim of. Like the other reviewers, i bought these from the online applestore because, although the price tag is really high, i trusted that Apple did some quality control on the products they carry and that their after-sales service would be good in the case of a problem. I was so wrong. The headphones didn't not work from the moment i received them (intermittent fading left ear like everyone else). the design is daft: the button is hard to find, the fabric shielding makes scratchy noises. ironically, the actual sound quality of the buds is excellent. except the bass response is unbearably hyped. (though you can counteract that with EQ)I complained within an hour of opening the package. Apple wouldn't take them back. v-moda told me to send them to california for a warranty claim, then agreed i could send photos instead (?) then stopped replying to my emails. I feel sick of the whole experience. i strongly urge other readers to avoid this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars fine for me, 13 Mar 2008
i received the right product. a Samsung. you need to know exactly what you are shopping for. clearly there is scope for confusion around sizes and models etc. if in doubt check the model number against manufacturers' website specs. I'm not saying some people didn't suffer wrong products being shipped. maybe they did. certainly i was worried and double-checked the specs. worked out fine for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars musical, satisfying and interesting, 11 April 2003
This review is from: Bodily Functions (Audio CD)
"Dance" is a pretty strong word for this, but who's going to call it NuChillOut? ;-) naive female vocals, odd sounds and occasional clips of studio dialogue add a charming homemade feel to what is overall a very classy production. Even when the housey tempos and patterns kick in, clicky found sounds and kitchen drawer percussion keep the vibe more spacious. And over half the tracks, you'd no way ever dance to . they are full-on slow, subdued and ambient to the point of being . . . ponderous. lovely stand-up bass and real pianos lend a hyper-real smooth jazziness which - unless there is something wrong with my system - he then slurs and saturates, which seems kind of contrived to me. The musical ideas are excellent, but the instrumentation, "found" sounds, and avant garde audio-dogma-style manifesto I just read about above, are not fully integrated - contributing more conceptually than aesthetically i reckon. ahem. (The first track is mildly like Diana Krall with someone slurping and rattling a toaster in the background. you dig?) but hey, it's his album. In a year it might sound gimmicky - or timeless. above all this is MUSIC with rhythms, melodies and chords that will not disappoint. a crisp fresh fusion of dance, jazz, and pop with a hint Squarepusher / Aphex -type trickery without which it would actually be traditionally good anyway. recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sting and his tunes aging gracefully and enjoyably, 18 Dec 2001
This review is from: ...All This Time (Audio CD)
Sure, he can be a bit corporate or dubious-of -lyric at times, but if you grew up with Sting's music, then here you can hear it growing up with you. It doesn't play a particular Greatest Hits, Charity Tribute or Unplugged angle, which is probably what confused the marketing people. It's just a great recording of some great arrangements and performances and anyone who ever liked Sting in his more jazzy/"sophisticated" mode is going to really enjoy it.
