The Hot Rock: A Dortmunder Novel (Book One) (The Dortmunder Novels)
The Hot Rock: A Dortmunder Novel (Book One) (The Dortmunder Novels)

5.0 out of 5 stars A great comedy!, 25 Jun. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The first Dortmunder novel and a great one. When something goes wrong, as it almost always does, Westlake provides an ingenious plot to recover from disaster and, when that goes wrong, yet another! A wonderful read.

5.0 out of 5 stars An awful personal experience sincerely told, 21 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Fortunate to survive, the narrator's account of his experiences, told matter-of-factly after many years, sears itself into the mind. Unlike 'Slaughterhouse 5', this isn't fictionalised.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 21 April 2013

I downloaded this to replace a transcribed track from one of my old LPs that was badly scratched. Every time I hear it, the hairs stand up on the back of my net - after dozens of plays!

Mercy (Department Q Book 1)
Mercy (Department Q Book 1)

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read, 21 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was expecting a dark Nordic novel but although grim in parts, Mercy turned out to be a really enjoyable book. Dept Q1 seems old fashioned but has an interesting cause - not containing the apparent super-experts it implies!

The Hangman's Daughter (A Hangman's Daughter Tale Book 1)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent on medieval detail, 19 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A thoroughly enjoyable read! Tightly written and maintains the suspense well. Attention to medieval detail is very good but I feel that medieval attitudes, especially to women, except their view of healers and witches, would have been different. The heroine is rather liberated although Potzsch does circumscribe her actions with what was possible at the time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful film but tedious soundtrack, 13 Mar. 2013

This review is from: The General [1926] [DVD] (DVD)
Thoroughly enjoyed the film. The print is of decent quality, reflecting its age but maintaining its atmosphere. The soundtrack, Scott Joplin rags, was excellent for the first half hour but repeated itself eventually. Still well worth watching!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for vinyl, 20 Feb. 2013

I used this with my laptop and easily converted my vinyls to digital files. The pre-amp switch does the trick!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent case!, 10 Dec. 2012

My iPad fits snuggly and safely in its elegant purple case. All sockets are easily accessible and it switches off on closure. I have used it for several weeks now and all features work correctly. A smart piece of kit at an excellent price!

4.0 out of 5 stars Light and thoroughly enjoyable, 8 Dec. 2012

A fan of Carl Hiaasen, I enjoy stories about the Keys and the characters and the plot fit well into this category. The flawed people who inhabit Deborah Brown's Key West and the tight plotting help produce an exciting and pleasing story.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nothing new!, 8 Dec. 2012

I read the first few pages only and, despite it being a pleasant read, I found it unconvincing and familiar.
