Not a vintage year, 19 Oct. 2012
I have always thought the Soul Togetherness series represents the quality of club soul in the particular year of release. I have all of the CDs in the series and must say that 2012 is not a vintage year. Apart from the obvious big hitters - Big Brooklyn Red,Cool million,R Kelly and Anthony Hamilton; most of the tracks are very weak indeed. A banal Kenny Thomas cut with embarrassingly dated lyrics is not what's expected from Expansion. Most other tracks would be regarded as album fillers on individual albums. We seem to be lacking SOUL on the dance floor - c'mon Richard and Ralph - more quality for 2013 please.
