5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful book, 30 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I brought this book after reading the other reviews and have to agree with all of the reviewers. Carolyn has used some wonderful colour choices in the projects and it looks like many of the quilts have used fabrics from an existing stash rather than just going for the commercially produced jelly rolls which, whilst gorgeous, can sometimes make a quilt look a little too 'rigid.' The inclusion of fabrics from your personal stash of fabrics give a quilt unique character and there are clear instructions given on how to cut strips for this purpose. All the methods are clearly shown in pictures so are suitable for any newcomer to quilting. The 9 quilts included are simple in design but because of the colour choices used, look far more complicated. There are also instructions to make 9 small gifts which are great if you need to sew something up in a hurry and also makes use of any left-over fabric strips. A great book at a great price and highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Book, 13 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I own all of Jane's other books, as well as following her colourful Yarnstorm blog and was really looking forward to the publication of this one.
After reading some of the other comments on this page, I would have to agree that this book is, perhaps, not as good as some of her previous work (The Gentle Art of Domesticity and the Gentle Art of Quiltmaking are wonderful!) I am an experienced stitcher and did find a few of the projects a little basic and uninspiring. However, this was balanced by the addition of some truly gorgeoous ones - especially the Crinoline Lady quilt, the Crazy Patchwork cushion and the Suffolk Puff quilt. Jane's style of writing is relaxed, chatty and easy to read and I love the way she always incorporates lots of interesting facts about the craft.
If you are a beginner, there is a lot of useful information about the materials and supplies needed and, as always a trademark of Jane's books, lovely colourful styling.
All in all, a nice book to have on your bookshelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars A definite Must Buy if you love Jelly Rolls!, 18 Aug. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Once again, the authors have produced yet another gorgeous book on Jelly Rolls. This time they have used the idea of reproducing the antique quilts in their collection and created alternative and similar versions using the beautiful jelly rolls that are available to us now - a super idea, particularly if you are looking to produce a future heirloom quilt using traditional patchwork patterns.
The book is clearly laid out and instructions look very easy to follow, although I haven't yet tried them out. There is detailed information given on the history of each of the antique quilts which I have found interesting and informative and the beautiful picture shots make this a joy to read.
All of the Jelly Roll books by these authors are amazingly good value and are well worth adding to your collection of quilt books. Highly recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic e-reader!, 20 Oct. 2010

Well done Amazon for this fantastic e-reader. It is brilliant and such good value for money. I had been looking to buy an e-reader for a while, but some of them seemed to be expensive with varying degrees of problems. After watching a review of e-readers on The Gadget show, the Kindle got rave reviews but at the time was only available in the U.S. Having received the Kindle a month ago, I cannot recommend it highly enough. Lighweight, easy to use and a long battery life are all in its favour. I also like the idea that I won't end up with yet more books to try to find a home for, on the shelf. This product is neat, compact and really stylish. Highly recommended product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Expensive Outlay, but worth the money!, 20 Oct. 2010

I brought the Burgundy Leather cover for my Kindle, because I wanted to make sure that it was fully protected from any damage. At first, I thought it seemed rather expensive but now I am using it, I think it is worth the money paid. It is a smart, stylish item which fits the Kindle perfectly. I like the fact that it is leather because the Kindle gets a lot of handling use so it was a sensible choice by the manufacturers, especially as leather always looks classical and smart. It is well made and ideal for fitting in any handbag/holdall for journeys and protects the Kindle well. The 'elastic' fastening is sturdy and simple. I am really pleased that I brought it - the only difficulty was which colour to choose as they are all lovely! (The 'Burgundy' is a lovely cherry red, not too dark!)Impressive product which I would recommend.
