Package arrived in styrofoam which leaked everywhere, so sadly this is getting 3 stars. It is good. Able to drink a reasonable sized cup of tea out of it or a latte, which means I can use it in the coffee shops where you get money off for bringing your own cup. It is ceramic which means no metallic aftertaste common with thermos or steel mugs. The green grip sleeve on it works well as a grip.

Minus points: If you're used to having very, very hot coffee or tea in this, then if you hold the cup for any length of time, your fingers are going to get burned. The grip sleeve is fine as a grip but not at protecting from burning, as it isn't thick enough. The plastic cap on it isn't waterproof and will leak your drink if you don't keep it upright. The plastic cap does come apart to be cleaned very well, although the rubber on the inside of the cap will smell of whatever drink you've had in the cup if you don't wash it.

All in all, a good design but not great. Being ceramic, you can't throw these into your car because they will smash.

Very pleased with this compact flash card for my D300. Unlike many modern Nikons, mine doesn't use a SD card so I'm reliant on the compact flash cards. This one is plenty fast enough and fine for the price. Just what I want.

4.0 out of 5 stars The mysterious Nanny with a secret talent, 27 Jun. 2015

This review is from: Finding Vivian Maier [DVD] (DVD)
Fascinating DVD about the enigmatic Vivian Maier - the nanny who was a highly competent street photographer and who no-one has heard of until now. Maloof discovered Maier after buying negatives for a project about Chicago, he scanned the negatives and discovered something amazing - photos of such quality that have never seen the light of day until now. His search for Vivian takes in her childhood in France, her training as a nanny and later becoming a live-in nanny to a number of children. All this whilst taking the most incredible black and white photos. We heard about Maier from the views of her charges and employers, some of whom paint a picture of a stern, yet surprising woman who had never married but photographed life in all its varieties in New York and Chicago as well as abroad. Finding Vivian Maier is a complete surprise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fiddly but effective, 9 April 2015

Didn't hold many hopes up for this remote initially. Needed it for the D300 I was using in Norway as the camera has no infra red remote facility and couldn't use the little remotes on it.

It took some time to get used to. The little radio part which goes in the front of the camera is VERY fiddly and can't be screwed in whilst wearing gloves (a must in Norway) so this job needed to be done before taking the camera out. Once its in, the indicator blinks red and you know its on.

It fared well out in the cold of Norway. I did take a cable release just in case, but didn't need one. The only thing is, that it drains batteries quickly so pack plenty of spares and you'll need some time to get used to how it works as well as time to get used to screwing it in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good All rounder, 9 April 2015
This review is from: Nikon D300 Body Only (Camera)
Bought my D300 as an upgrade to the D70 I was using to learn photography and because we were going away to the far North to photograph the Aurora and my husband didn't think the D70 was rugged enough for the cold.

The D300 has been a good learning curve for me. Its menus are not difficult to use, just require some thought (as with all equipment) although there are functions on the camera which I'm still trying to use. The main ones - the ISO change button, Qual button and WB are all to the left of the viewfinder and easy to access making them easy to change. The screen on the top of the camera is still there - a feature which I love as I don't like using the display screen and if you have the camera on a tripod, the display screen isn't easy to look at anyway. A nice feature is the light on the top screen too. Very useful when shooting in the dark (as I've found).

Whats nice about this camera is that its sturdy. and it can take a battery grip pack, which the D70 didn't. It retains the same lens mounting system as the D70, which is the F mount and the DX. This means I don't have to splash out on more lenses and can use the same ones as the D70. I can also use the same battery as the D70, which is great.

Shooting is consistent. This camera has picture controls which are more extensive than on the D70 but similar to the Nikon 1 J2 I also use. What I like is that the ISO range is much wider. I've been looking forward to a camera capable of higher ISO ranges as I've found the D70s too low for consistent night shooting.

Another nice feature is the sensor cleaning facility. No more dust spots and no need to send the camera to our pro dealer to get the sensor cleaned. Another great feature is the long exposure noise reduction facility, which marks this camera out as one capable of dealing with higher ISOs. It also has a LiveView facility suitable for remote tripod based photography and a mirror up facility.

My only grumbles about this camera are minor ones. It has only one slot for Compact Flash cards, rather than the spare SD card slot on other D series cameras and the other is that there is no infra red for making use of remote releases. Thankfully there is no video facility, which I don't want on a camera like this and the display screen doesn't flip, which I would find annoying.

All in all, a good, solid, well designed camera. Advanced enough for the amateur who aspires to better pictures but not too intimidating.

4.0 out of 5 stars Logoless camera bag - perfect for your little camera, 13 Feb. 2015
Had this bag to hold a Nikon 1 Compact System Camera called the J2 and some lenses. It works pretty well and isn't too conspicuous. It is tough enough to stand being lugged around and put into a car and holds as much of the camera gear as I want it to, which includes 2 lenses, the camera, some filters, loads of memory cards, 2 batteries and 2 remote release devices. What I liked about it is that it is big enough but not too big and doesn't get too heavy. I doubt it will stand carrying a heavy DSLR but then it isn't designed for that purpose. If you're looking for a logo less basic camera bag for your compact or Bridge camera, then this is the one. Its also reasonably cheap as well and there isn't a brash logo on it to scream 'camera bag', which is a definite plus these days.

My one grumble is that it isn't as rigid as I would like, but its a minor thing. All in all this is a very good bag and good value.

Bought this particular battery because I needed a new battery for my D70 and I didn't want to pay over the odds for it. Prices vary on this battery enormously.

Had the battery now a couple of weeks and it works fine. It doesn't drain as quickly as the third party ones and fits the camera. I would recommend being cautious when it comes to batteries for high end DSLRs. Making sure you have the right battery for the camera is important and being aware that a third party battery won't work as well as a genuine camera one for your brand of camera is always worth saying.

Captivated by You: A Crossfire Novel
Captivated by You: A Crossfire Novel

4.0 out of 5 stars May be spoilers - More fighting and loving with Eva and Gideon., 1 Jan. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
*** Warning - may be spoilers****

Sylvia Day's Crossfire novels came to me as I was just finishing reading the Fifty Shades novels. I thought that the Crossfire stuff would be similar enough to warrant a reading and in many ways it was.

Sylvia's saga has started out with Eva and her bisexual flatmate Cary coming to live and work in New York City. Eva to an advertising assistant's job for a company based in the Crossfire building and Cary to a modelling job. Eva's life changes immediately when she becomes captivated by and courted by the owner of the Crossfire, one Gideon Cross, powerful, alpha male and not without some issues. Their saga has gone on for some novels and it has included dealing with quite a number of major obstacles, most of which have tested the golden couple quite hard.

Now into this book and we find Eva and Gideon settling into their sorely tested relationship. Gideon has proposed to Eva and the two have had a quiet wedding, complete with pre-nuptial. Gideon has acquired an apartment next to Eva's for convenience. Now they have to deal with several things, among them, Brent Kline and his continuing 'hope' for a reconciliation between himself and Eva, Dr Anne Lucas and her vendetta against Gideon, Gideon's ex-girlfriend, stepbrother and mum, Cary's pregnant girlfriend and a sex tape featuring Kline and Eva. Thats all before dealing with Gideon's continued nightmares and his coming to terms with abuse and Eva's uncertainty about how she and Gideon can move forward as a couple.

Its a lot to deal with.

Now we find Eva and Cary heading to San Diego briefly to see Dr Travis and Eva's father Victor. In the background, under the watchful eye of Cross, Eva tries to explain to Kline that their moment is over and done with. Kline still can't let go and confronts Cross with a sex tape of himself and Eva in action which he wants to keep. That and his burgeoning rock career seem to be guided by the very person that Cross hates, which is his stepbrother Christopher.

The sex between Eva and Cross is still wild and referred to, frequently and predictably, its followed by their terrible arguments, which consist of Eva usually walking out. Faced with a ton of issues, its little wonder, at times, you feel as if they are never going to find their happiness together.

Transcend 1TB 2.5 inch USB 3.0 Military-Grade Shock Resistance Portable Hard Drive
Transcend 1TB 2.5 inch USB 3.0 Military-Grade Shock Resistance Portable Hard Drive
Price: £48.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Good quality hard drive., 23 Dec. 2014
Got one of these because it was cheaper than others advertised and is labelled as military grade shock resistant. We needed it to back up lots of photos to liberate our laptop hard drives as husband has a camera whose photo RAW files are massive! Does what it says on the tin - backs up and seems quite robust. Neither of us have dropped it yet as it doesn't go far out of the house.

Noticed a lot of 1 star reviews. The cable is of a reasonable length and quality. Not too keen on very long cables as they are more prone to breakage. It also has a good grip from the sleeve.

All in all, very impressed.
